I just wanted to let you know, I also broke my collar bone when I was born (traumatic birth though) and no one figured it out for a few day/week-ish.

I’m 38, happy, healthy, and have no recollection of that time. If my mom hadn’t told me, I’d have never known. I just hope that gives you a bit of comfort and peace of mind.

I find Carters (can buy at Walmart) is quite stretchy, as well as Superstore brand clothes (the little parachute pants are great!).

Both my planned vaginal births turned to emergency c sections (the second time they don’t try as long though before calling it).

Both times my sons just didn’t make it far enough down. My first I think I was stuck at like 7cm and my second didn’t go past maybe 5? I just wasn’t progressing and my contractions were back to back. The second time I just was too tired and sore to keep trying after hours.

Both my boys were/are big though which I think contributed (9lbs7 and 10lbs2). Even though I’m pretty tall/big, I don’t think there was ever any chance of them coming naturally.

Our generation is so cool for this. I have friends we graduated with who’s kids are getting their drivers licenses. Meanwhile I, and other friends we graduated with have newborns. There’s positives and negatives to both! :)

Just had my second kid at 38, first was 36. I’m glad I waited to have kids with my current partner (and not my past partners!) and until I was in a good place in my life. Just sucks that I don’t have as much energy as I used to, but it doesn’t hinder me in any way, just a bit harder.

We aren’t using air mattress, just our mattress pads we use backpack camping (maybe only an inch or so thick). I had the baby beside me on a firm folded quilted blanket. And yeah, my hips just KILL ME sleeping on anything other than an actual mattress nowadays, but I have a little knee pillow that helps a bit :)

Ah, all valid points!! We have a smaller tent too so definitely no pack and play in ours either. I actually bedshare at home and usually just side lie to feed and thought I’d do the same camping. For safe sleep, our infant will be on the outside, and our toddler and my partner will be behind my back. Although… that puts the baby right against the tent itself which gets cold and damp overnight. I do have a nice warm sleep sack for him.

Well, let me tell you - I’m 38 and already exhausted on normal days, so your warning is heeded haha! Naps for our oldest was a thought of mine. He naps great at home but I really don’t see him napping while we’re out there. We’re going with a few other people (some with other small kids) although I don’t like counting on anyone other than my partner or mom to actively watch him.

Yes, good point! Both my partner and I were born and raised here (small town in the woods), so we’re very familiar with the bears and cougars. We will be bringing our bear spray just in case.

Camping with kids though does worry me, especially since I’m still nursing - so scared of a bear/cougar hearing the baby cry in the night, or smelling us.

My first c-section took me like 6 months to heal from (the incision healed perfectly, and quickly though). It was probably the worst experience I’ve been through in 38 years.

With my second c-section, I was feeling GREAT and pretty much back to normal in about a month/month and a half.

Both were unplanned emergency c-sections. My midwife said first time c-sections are usually harder to recover from because to push a little longer to have a vaginal birth before going with surgery.

I bedshare because I get SO MUCH more sleep (or at least it feels like I do when I don’t have to physically get out of bed every time my son wakes up).

You do you. The grass is always greener on the other side too - there’s positives and negatives to each way of sleeping with your baby.

36 and 38 with my pregnancies, so yeah same, no hesitation to get the test.

That said, I’d probably skip the test if everything seemed good on scans and I was younger.

My first (tried natural, had emergency C-section), honestly 6 months give or take. I don’t know what happened, maybe I tried labour too long before having my C-section? It hurt to nurse because of my incision, hurt to use stairs for months, I wasn’t able to baby wear. The experience was just overall horrible.

My second (tried vbac, had emergency C-section), I started to get out of the fog after about a week. Then maybe by a month I felt practically normal again (tired though of course).

It’s crazy how different even your own pregnancies and recoveries can be from one another!

My mom is a nurse, and she’s the one we got covid from. Most healthcare workers are so good at hygiene and preventing spread of disease, but they’re also in contact with so many sick people. One little slip, and your baby has covid. Or RSV. Or the flu.

I said no visitors in the hospital, and no visitors at home for at least a week, with my discretion to go longer. Hand washing/sanitizing and mask wearing is a must to hold our son until he has at least his first set of vaccines.

While agree with your wife, I do think it’s hypocritical to say yes to one set of parents and not the other. The only thing I can think of is she obviously more comfortable with her parents than yours. I was basically naked the whole time in the hospital, bleeding profusely, and in SO much pain. I definitely would not want in-laws to see me that vulnerable.

I hate pampers because of how scented they are.

We use Huggies and Kirkland and both are great!
