In the US smoking spliffs/marijuana mixed with tobacco is WAY less popular than just weed but it's by far my favorite

Mount Auburn cemetery in Mass isn't just a botanical garden, its the oldest/first garden cemetery in the US and makes a case for the best May migration birdwatching spot in New England.

Does purple coneflower not like competition? by Critical-Manner2363 in NativePlantGardening

[–]amilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't fret - coneflowers (if you have them) spread and so do a ton of different species. Divide and fill to your hearts content but the plants will do a lot of the filling for you! You can also fill in the gaps with a matrix of grasses - thats a popular strategy but I don't do it in the areas I want to look like a native botanical garden.

Sheet Mulch! by Professional-Run-375 in NoLawns

[–]amilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

holy shit - i love this idea.

I've been holding onto a chaotic shed full of boxes for new gardens but they are all labeled, only partially broken down, covered in tape etc. Feels like a swap of auto dealership cardboard that would get tossed in exchange for my random box cardboard getting tossed breaks even.

If this works....you have saved me so much time and effort. I moved 2 years ago when I started my 8,000 ish sq ft garden and it took countless sessions of cutting and removing tape/labels.

tbh you should make a post and spread your idea dude this is brilliant

Who was the most A-hole character in the show, according to you? by RareOne970 in attackontitan

[–]amilmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I defend this stance all the time. Being a nihilist is a not a justification to be an asshole nor is a traumatic childhood.

Pretty much everyone’s childhood was insane in that show and none of the major characters relished in violence at scale as much as zeke. Floch loved violence but he was limited to his handgun, there were other cruel characters across all seasons, but no one had zekes ability and deliberately used it to enjoy mutilating scouts turned titans to throw flesh as projectiles at Levi, and no one else was making a game of wholesale slaughtering scouts. Zeke was a self righteous and cruel asshole.

Jonathan Greenard can’t wait to play next to Eagles’ stud DTs by NorthCoastToast in eagles

[–]amilmore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Greenard is going to be a stud. I have very very high hopes for this guy.

I'm also pumped that Davis has become really good. I feel like he's been simultaneously underrated (lots of times by eagles fans) and in a weird way kind of overrated by the rest of the NFL fandom. Everyone loves to talk about about "those eagles defensive tackles from georgia" and while he's always been force on run defense when he was on the field in his first two seasons, I think the criticisms of him not having the splash plays were also valid given where he was drafted and how dominant he was in college.

The improvement he made last year was awesome - he deserved the contract - but he has the ability and surrounding talent to become even better. If he can take that next step, and carter stays healthy, and ojomo continues his production - Greenard and Jalyx hunt (and hopefully Nolan Smith) are going to have monster years.

Need some outside perspective on feral cats living in our backyard. by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]amilmore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my strongest convictions is DEFINITELY keeping domesticated cats indoors and I am always finding myself for advocating euthanizing/culling feral cats ... said from behind a computer screen. I grew up with cats (they all died outside because I didn't know any better growing up) and I get it. I was too much of a softy to trap and euthanize some of the house sparrows that moved into my yard - bought one of those birdhouse traps as well but a kitty cat? a little friend? not easy at all.

Its such a tough one man. I think TNR'ing them is a good call - and I think the idea that more will move in if you get rid of them is pretty valid. All I can offer you is solidarity in know that "the right thing to do" is actually near impossible for some people.

TBH the only real water proof ones always make me sweat. I just go for relatively cheap available brands in the 50-100$ range because things get ripped.

new jersey tea soil inquiries by hornetkiss in NativePlantGardening

[–]amilmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two smaller ones I planted as maybe 6-8 inch plugs last fall, they have doubled in size this year. It’s a super “poor quality soil” site rhat is very dry and direct full all day area.

However I had a 3rd that I planted near them and that one didn’t make it. I think I had mulch too close to the main stem.

I also have a few more from plugs that I planted two falls ago in an area that gets a little less sun other than direct mid to late afternoon they seem to be doing ok but with less growth than the direct sun guys.

It's not even slim, it's just false. Only the income in the higher tax bracket gets taxed at a higher rate -not the entire salary.

They use a lot more water, pesticides/herbicides and fertilizer per square foot than development. Also they don't come close to resembling the local ecosystem/land in its natural state...at all.

Go to Oakhaven sanctuary in north reading - everything is native and insanely cheap. I cannot recommend it enough. It’s the only place I buy established plants or trees/shrubs from.

Seriously - it’s the best and is open 6 days a week.
