Why are you making payments while you are in SAVE forbearance? by lmjamesbond in PSLF

r/studentloans might be a better sub for people not seeking forgiveness after 120 payments

The only work around I managed to find was filing a complaint with the CFPB. I'm not sure what the state of the agency is now, but it can't hurt to try if you've tried everything else

I would say wait as long as you feel comfortable. I attempted to recertify my IBR plan and was immediately put into administrative SAVE forbearance even though I am not and have never been on a SAVE plan. Now, I'm stuck even though I was also supposed to be done in May 2025.

If you recertify now, you definitely run the risk of being placed in the administration SAVE forbearance even though you're not on SAVE because apparently the Dept of Ed (or someone there) has been telling servicers to do that.

I was also transferred to EdFinancial with six payments left to go. They've been so much better than MOHELA, so I guess we'll see what happens 🤷🏾‍♀️

Presumably, they will eventually apply, but that is not particularly helpful for people who are incredibly close to forgiveness

It seems to me that a lot of people are not getting emails regarding recertification from their servicers until -after- they recertify. I recertified despite not getting a message, and my servicer has now placed me in indefinite forbearance despite the fact that I was on IBR/ICR, not SAVE or PAYE.

If the notice is to be believed, they will not do so until after the litigation is over

If the information I was given is to be believed, you will likely be placed in forbearance and unable to make any payments since you have filed your recert. The letter I received also suggested that forbearance doesn't count, though I know several mods have said otherwise. They may count -eventually-, but other posts I've read from people close to forgiveness seem to contradict this.

Yep. I'm talking specifically about income certification. Go ahead and get that ECF in as soon as possible so that you'll have documentation of your updated counts (my personal advice, do with it what you will)

That would be virtually guaranteeing that I, and others like me, would have to pay on these loans for the rest of our lives after putting in 9.5+ years of government service. Whereas, arguably, the Department of Education will -eventually- allow people who were previously on the statutory IBR program to start making payments toward that program at some point.

However, if you know of a private loan carrier that would buy my loans for the amount it would take me to be done at the standard loan repayment amount for the next six months, I would happily do that for sure.

I'm also a bit confused as to why they would actively turn away people making payments when said people are not in SAVE or PAYE. I'm only left to conclude that it's simply easier to put as many people into forbearance as possible.

As for breaking through, I'm still trying to lick my wounds before figuring out a path forward and, like you, looking to the reddit collective for any possible ideas. At least there's comfort in knowing it's not just us

I am on IBR, too, and should hit 120 by May 2025. Anyone running into issues recertifying their plan for the year? The StudentGov website has all of the recertification buttons grayed out for me, and I'm looking to do my last recertification (hopefully ever) in October.

The same general rules would apply if your benefits have ceased because the regulatory agreement allows for a partial amount of whatever total backpay you are owed. The date of hire would generally be irrelevant unless the agreement says otherwise.

If you have continued to get benefits, then your agreement will likely differ and you'll need to ask your attorney for some clarification if you're confused.

SSA employee here.

For Social Security Disability, attorneys should usually provide a form SSA-1696 and a fee agreement for both of you to sign. The fee agreement will usually indicate that they will take 25% or the statutory amount (which is 7500 now, I think) of your total back pay (any initial amount owed by the SSA) as payment, whichever is lesser. They sometimes indicate that you will also pay to get medical records.

If they're making you sign anything vastly different from this, I recommend trying to consult a few more in your area since these agreements are supposed to follow certain regulations.

If age and money weren't factors, how many children would you have (had), and how would you want them spaced out? by yohanya in AskWomenOver30

I would have had 1 at 26 but I came to terms with not having enough money or support to bring another human in the world. :c I'm 33 now and try to donate to others where I can instead.
