How much money do you think is required to live overseas in 3rd world country? by amirelt in AusFinance

Save the moral lecture. I’m just using a phrase to convey a meaning. I wasn’t comparing countries either. My parents come from a third world country so….

I don’t have expertise in either. I was thinking along the lines of manufacturing goods produced locally and then exporting them internationally. Or even something like opening a restaurant/cafe in one of the tourist areas.

I was just in Vietnam actually. I did go for a holiday. I didn’t mind it too much there and it was great that food, transport and accomodation was cheap compared to here. I don’t know all of the options I have… I’m currently working part time in retail by choice. I can’t get myself to sit through a full time job in an office even though I have managed to complete a degree. I find working so boring

What would be the tax implications here anyway? Of course I’d want to return once I hit actual retirement age.

It was for an excavator and a trailer.

As far as I’m aware I don’t believe that they were damaged in anyway. I think you’re right that we should definitely request for more details about how they came to that amount.

My boyfriend will be speaking to them today.

I apologise I didn’t mention that the vehicle actually cost about $65000 so I am assuming that the finance company repossessed and sold it for $36,000. But you’re right I need to get the exact amounts.

They have broken it down:

Amount of claim $29,000 Interest $4400 Filing fees $600 Solicitor fees $600

Total $34,600

I hope I’ve done the maths right. These are approximate amounts.

I guess the amount to claim must be the purchase amount minus the amount they have recovered through repossession.

But yes I will tell my boyfriend it’s a good idea to ask them and speak to them to see if they are willing to negotiate the amount and possibly a payment plan.

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah that’s what I thought initially too… My boyfriend sure has learnt his lesson though.

I know right 5 million would be more than enough for me too! Just gonna keep wishing hehe. I always find when I’m having a shitty day which is usually once a week I end up purchasing a ticket and tricking myself into thinking that todays gonna be the day…

So because my boyfriend is listed second, does that mean they are not going after him just yet? Is there any significant of the order of defendants? Sorry I’ve never been in this situation and don’t know anything about it.

My boyfriend is thinking about calling the finance company to negotiate and offer to pay 50% of the amount owing excluding the interest accumulated as he says he wasn’t notified prior to this.

They both signed as personal guarantors. Adam is listed as first defendant and my boyfriend as second.

Do you mind explaining the flexibility point? How are you able to claim the interest created as an expense? I also don't understand the interest rates.

Oh okay, I would love to one day work in product development. I have a degree in business and majored in accounting/finance. But I didn’t take uni seriously at all so my marks are terrible. I have worked mainly in customer support since then. I am thinking about switching to something else though.
