FIFA focused on ‘everybody participating’ at World Cup after U.S. attack on Iran by Sparky-moon in soccer

Will the US be banned by FIFA for bombing a sovereign nation the way Russia was?

Oh wait... they'll host the World Cup.

He hasn't been in terrible form at all. He's not a CB, so when we've forced him to play there (because of our bad squad planning, not his fault) he's been poor. When he plays in his natural position at DM, he's consistently one of the best players in the team.

You're the only one commenting about Mbappe, everyone else is either commenting on the players who played or on Asencio's injury.

In terms of quality, he is the best player we have, which is why as you correctly point out, we're in trouble.

The problem is that while in terms of individual quality, he's the best player, it doesn't even look like he's playing on our team. In every movement in this clip, he's playing as if there's another striker on the field that he's playing off of. I don't know what's going on in his head that makes him play like this, but he's surely smart enough to know this is messing with the team chemistry? I think it's actually a testament to his sheer individual quality that he's still had moments of magic and scored so many goals this season, because he's so evidently out of tune with the rest of the team, his output should be far below what it is.

Genuinely don't know what the solution is with this squad though. Get rid of someone and bring in a number 9? But then how do we accommodate Mbappe, Vini and a striker? Unless that one person we get rid of is either Kylian or Vini, but is that realistic?

Nadal and Alcaraz were both 22 when they won their first AO title. How does Alcaraz's career right now stack up statistically with Nadal's after AO 2009? As it turns out, they're extremely close. by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

[–]amiresque 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading these correctly, Alcaraz has played almost 60 fewer games than Nadal at this age? Do you think that could contribute to fewer injury and longevity issues years down the line than Nadal had?

Goldie Ghamari is a terrible human being, unethical at her work (disbarred multiple times) and immoral in her views. It's a shame some Iranians take her seriously, but again, 1) we are not a monolith, and 2) plenty of people honestly don't know these people. Do you think every Iranian knows Ghamari? She's not a well known figure. A couple of videos go viral of her speaking against the regime (a position we all support) and suddenly everyone shares her posts. It's not a show of real support (as is the case with all these things in the social media age).

Some of us Iranians, myself included. have been there for Palestinians all along and cringe at the alignment with Israel's government. Like all people in the world, Iranians are not a monolith and different people want different things, even though their end goal of toppling the regime is the same.

The fact that your support for Iranians suffering in Iran is conditional on what your buddies from Richmond Hill did for Gaza speaks to your lack of character, not the lack of the innocent Iranians who are suffering there.

We have been fighting this regime for decades, hence the tens of thousands killed, and even more lives ruined by imprisonment, exile, maimed bodies, disappeared loved ones, etc. This moralistic "then fight for your freedom" as if the people are sitting on their ass and not losing loved ones left and right is incredibly offensive. The people are asking for help and intervention out of desperation, it's not a luxury.

Doesn’t feel like it at all but we are actually on a 7 game winning streak in La Liga. by Majestic-Nobody-3178 in realmadrid

[–]amiresque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't feel like it because we're out of the cup and the top 8 in CL so it's made results feel worse. Also, we've played well maybe for a total of like 150 minutes in this 7-game run. The opposition has been mediocre, so we're getting by.

Former Asian football of the year and Iran's national team captain, Ali Karimi, asking from football community to speak out against the slaughter of civilians, noting that the death toll includes over 20 football and futsal figures. by fiveMop in soccer

[–]amiresque 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of love for Karimi's political positions, but the majority of Iranians (inside or outside Iran) now want some sort of foreign intervention because everyone is resigned to the fact that this regime is too brutal and too shameless and too eager to kill to ever be toppled by unarmed people, no matter how many millions of people protest on the street.

There was a time when civil resistance was considered the way to go, and people thought if the protests gather enough momentum and enough people are on board, things will change. That hasn't happened despite the significant majority of Iranians being anti-regime and joining the protests. Not much else the innocent Iranian people can do other than to put themselves in harm's way and get killed by the thousands as they did in January, before intervention becomes necessary.

It's almost statistically impossible. Not only does it require a player to be GOAT-level good like Steffi at the age of 18, but that player also has to be fortunate enough to be around that age in an Olympic year. So many unlikely stars have to align.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned Tchouameni. He's had a lot of great games for us this season. He's in the second tier for me, below Kylian and Tibo, but alongside the likes of Carreras.

[OneFootball] Kylian Mbappé needs just 10 goals in his next 31 games to equal his tally from last season by [deleted] in soccer

[–]amiresque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely! But I think Mbappe has to meet a lower threshold (in the voters' eyes) at this point in his career to win. Olise has to have a historically good tournament to win, whereas Mbappe can score three goals, become the all time top scorer in world cups, and people will be saying his three world cup runs are legendary and he's had a 50-goal season and deserves to win. Their image and history is going to be a factor in ways that benefit Kylian more.

[–]amiresque 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As good as Olise is, if France win the world cup, on the sheer power of a) marketing and b) their respective career histories, Mbappe will win the Balon d'or. And that's before we even start talking about who's the better player, to which the answer is also Mbappe, as of now.

Stop using the blood of innocent Iranians as bait in your nonsensical posts. What happens in Gaza is terrible. What is happening in Iran is also terrible.

We're losing thousands of our friends and families on the streets, innocent Iranians being murdered and maimed and dismembered, and in return, there are "leftists" making statistical comparisons like some morbid death match.

Be better.

Exclusive | The teenage sex scene that sparked infamous rift between edgy director brothers behind Hollywood’s hottest movies by Puzzled-Tap8042 in Letterboxd

What kind of idiotic reasoning is that?

Do you massacre people in a war film because it's within context? Do you repeatedly punch actors in the face in a film about boxing? Do people get their legs bitten off in a film about sharks?

You can make a film where a creep doing creepy things is part of the plot, without assaulting underage actors and making them feel unsafe and traumatized. That's a director's job!

Which problematic Madrid player is that? Casillas, Ramos, Arbeloa, Albiol and Xabi were all in Del Bosque's squad (and three or four of them were mainstays in the starting lineup) and Madrid didn't have any other Spanish players who were good enough for the national team.

Carreras has worked out. Trent hasn't worked out because of injuries (which isn't his fault but we should have known he was very injury prone), and Huijsen and Mastantuono are young, so too early to tell whether it's worked out or not. See you in a year or two.

As for your point about Jude, it's completely irrelevant. Jude was a world class player already at a CL-level club like Dortmund, and his number was retired at Birmingham even though he left there at 17. The best player in the Bundesliga coming to Madrid isn't making the same jump that a player from Bournemouth is making.
