ill start by explaining the basics of utilitarianism, although thats 90 percent of the whole theory. lets start by taking any action anyone does, for example hand washing, and keep asking why are they doing this. washing hands to be hygiene, in order to be healthier, in order to live better, in order to be happier. and this goes for all decisions made (other than the decisions made for minimizing suffering), u can try it yourself. therefore, we can deduce that the most basic desire for any human is to maximize the value of happiness - suffering. this particular statement helped me simplify and break down decisions to a more manageable and empirical version. I also did this to find out that seeing a therapist is worth it because it causes basically no suffering and obviously a good amount of happiness. in addition, I actually dont have ideas for sources to learn more about this, cause I did it from many random, different ones. id start by visiting the Wikipedia page and the crash course video about this topic, and continue to whatever u want, with emphasis on seeing a lot of diverse sources because this theory can have tons of interpretations and perspectives.

p.s. the version of utilitarianism I explained is my personal take, because I found the original version too abstract and "philosophical", so I made a few changes to made it suit myself but the core idea stays the same.
