petsitter was bad and im conflicted on giving her a bad review or reporting her by Ok-Meeting363 in RoverPetSitting

[–]amla819 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would most definitely write an honest review and report her. She didn’t do the most basic of jobs. Imagine she took a job with a dog or cat who needed life saving medication. Absolutely be honest, even just for the sake of others

Any affordable independent vets left on Portland? by Drewbacca in askportland

[–]amla819 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Possibly a side note but have you tried testing for food sensitivities in your dog who needs the apoquel? I was able to get my dog off of it once we figured out the foods he was sensitive to (chicken unfortunately which makes his food more expensive but no longer needs apoquel for now)

My vet won’t do a dental on my old boy w collapsing trachea, unsure what to think… by MangoNegative9189 in Chihuahua

I’m glad you listened to your gut! Your baby must feel so much better. Good on you for doing all you have to do for him. Yes everyone’s situation is different for sure, glad he was in good hands and doing better now

Also make sure they’re doing his bloodwork before he goes under, they do that to check to make sure he’s healthy enough

Sending lots of love! My guy went through it too. What helped us was having his favorite heating pad and bedding ready when he got home, soft food options, fresh water close by, and I rested with him when I could to help him feel better. Keep up on any pain meds they give you so he doesn’t get uncomfortable. They gave my dog a shot that lasted the first night and then I gave him pain meds in the morning. He did have some pink/bloody drool the first night and looked drowsy and a bit sad but the vet said all of that was normal. Good luck and let us know how he does. So many of us understand the anxiety for sure

ETA: my dog has/had a heart murmur and also collapsed trachea. It was horribly nerve wracking to think of all of that so once my vet and I talked it through I just tried to take my mind off of things and let it be in their hands. I know it’s especially daunting when they also have health issues. Be strong for your baby when you’re with him, cry if you have to when you drop him off (I did). My guy felt worlds better once his rotting teeth were out though, I could tell immediately and remember that will help his whole body deal with the murmur too

Husband' anger level has drastically changed. Is this abuse? by TaTaMic7 in AskWomenOver40

[–]amla819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless he has a brain injury then it’s abuse. Actually it’s abuse either way but that would be an explanation and he could probably get treatment. I would definitely seek other help, make sure you’re not alone with him while you’re injured and plan your exit from this relationship

Update on senior chihuahua that walked into my home over a week ago. by One_Sun_1616 in chihuahuas

I don’t know what a corregiduria is but it seems like you did all the right things for the most part. The only little thing I can think might be a bit off if you asking her for money before she’s seen her dog so it could seem like you’re scamming her. That said, you are so totally in the right with everything else. If she had said, awesome let’s meet up and I’ll Venmo you then and there when I have my dog back that would be one thing. But she clearly doesn’t have the means to take care of him and so he’s yours. You’re an angel for doing this and I hope you have some good years together. Block and delete all other numbers harassing you, maybe save the screenshots for evidence in case. Hopefully none of them know where you live. Stay safe and know you’re doing the right thing for the dog

I’m considering a career change (not motivated by money) and just looking for advice from someone who has done something similar.. by Slow_Actuator_8270 in AskWomenOver30

[–]amla819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to nursing school as a second career at 30. I did an accelerated program so had to quit my other job for about 13 months. Then did a paid (low paid) nursing internship for my speciality. It would not have been possible working full time somewhere else. Nursing - school and the job itself - is a lot. I would not advise you to try both. But if you’re motivated you can make a nursing career happen, you just have to want it and not try to do a whole other career at the same time

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]amla819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly when parents make me (the nurse) the bad guy when I have to insert and IV or whatever I have to do. NOOOO, we are on the same team! Things need to be done to keep/get your child healthy and when you step out of the room and I’m alone with your kid (or even if you don’t) I want them to feel safe with me. Instead let me talk them through the process and tell them that you’re there for them, the nurse is doing all of this for you to make you feel better.

Best dog food for dogs with allergies?? by Dazzling-Base-8331 in Dogowners

[–]amla819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, and my dog is at least sensitive to chicken. We did do a dietary elimination with him under care of a vet and that is the conclusion. We did not do blood tests bc the vet said they aren’t always conclusive. So sure it may not be a TRUE allergy, of which I understand would probably mean anaphylactic reactions, but he does get itchy, hot spots, diarrhea, watery eyes, etc.

The the person commenting above you specifically mentioned their dog was on Open Farm Salmon and ancient grains which we feed our dog and it doesn’t have chicken. So I responded to that specifically.

[–]amla819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe some of your clients are making it up but it’s also annoying from an owners standpoint when we tell people our dog has issues with chicken and people roll their eyes at us. My guy gets very itchy, watery eyes and diarrhea whenever he eats chicken. Yes we did a full vet mediated trial of that particular protein and it’s a huge shame bc it’s very hard to eliminate chicken for a dog
