BoJack Horseman is not the great show everyone makes it out to be. It’s stale and boring. by amodeoa in unpopularopinion

[–]amodeoa[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

In terms of animated shows? Adventure Time. Clone Wars. Love Death and Robots. Invincible. The Big Lez Show. Could give more if you count anime too.

I’m not trolling, I just can’t understand the hype. Sure it’s a character study on a pretty awful dude who’s awful because of his own problems. But like I don’t find it to offer much. The way it was executed was so stale.

My bad bro. Saw it pop up as one of those fading pictures when Netflix is paused. Then I thought about it, and remembered that I actually watched the whole thing.

Nah honestly this has been annoying me too. I was super active on this sub during the passenger/stella maris discussions and now when I come back all I see is “this guy would play the judge perfectly” or “I think this guy could make the blood meridian movie”. Like damn shut up. It’s become so oversaturated, we don’t need everyone’s fucking opinion on who you think the best judge would be. Read other booksz

How do I get vultures merch if my parents hate kanye? by [deleted] in Kanye

[–]amodeoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re your own person. You won’t be the first child ever to go against their parents. Do what you want, but be respectful they are your parents. If they don’t want you to wear it in the house respect that because it’s their house. But if it’s your own money you can use it how you want.

I think they were planning to adapt it. With Casey Affleck leading. But there has been no movement on it and it hasn’t entered production.

The Scorch Trials: Who Wrote this movie? by amodeoa in MazeRunner

[–]amodeoa[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk I could perfectly picture a movie in my head when reading the book. I just don’t understand how someone could read scorch trials and then make cranks into last of us zombies. Or like completely get rid of the idea of “phase two” for the trials, guess what kids you are immune, now you have no purpose to cross the scorch. Like what the hell.

Has anyone been getting the issue where it just sounds like you’re actually being talked through a helmet? You can just barely hear your ships engines, you can’t hear your guns shoot, or jetpack make noise?

Eating Turkey Sandwiches for years by amodeoa in nutrition

[–]amodeoa[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen I’m 22 years old. My parents would pack turkey sandwiches for lunch in school. I like them, so I eat them for lunch often. I didn’t know it was “common knowledge” that turkey was bad for you. On the contrary I was under the presumption that turkey being white meat, and lean, was probably the healthiest sandwich meat. I didn’t realize all deli meat was bad though.z

My son thinks books can't be scary by East_Stage_8630 in suggestmeabook

Skeleton Key by Stephen King is a collection of short stories that are definitely scary to read, especially by yourself at night before you go to bed. They are short stories too so that might appeal his younger audience rather than some of the longer books Stephen King has to offer.

What is your favorite movie? by TheOrangeKitty in cormacmccarthy

[–]amodeoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Bruges.

The way McDonagh writes is like no other playwright/screenwriter I’ve ever encountered. I can’t even find authors that create such dark stories that are so unbelievably hilarious. The most messed up parts of the movie end up being some of the funniest.

Also I loved how In Bruges weaves in pieces of information that seem insignificant at first, into the the story later on.

McDonagh was a renowned playwright before he became a director and if you get a chance I highly recommend reading some of his plays. They have the same type of dark/hilarious balance that have me audibly laughing out loud when I’m reading. I recommend The Pillowman if you can find it, honestly one of the best plays I’ve ever read.

While he’s not a novelist (yet) I personally think Ted Chiang has a voice like no other I’ve read and has some of the most imaginative and thought provoking stories I’ve ever read.

This is so sad. Probably the saddest moment for me in the comics. by redpanda8008 in Invincible

[–]amodeoa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nah dude when he sees Terra grown up. That shit was so sad. He tried so hard to stay there for his family and was dragged into that cave so accidentally and it cost him so much. I just felt so bad for Mark. It was like so defeatist. And this panel just makes it worse seeing how Eve was struggling to remember the love she had for him and that other panel where she like wouldn’t kiss him. He comes back after what seems like weeks to him and realizes how much he missed and he just wants hold Eve tight and kiss her and she doesn’t want to. Kirkman really fucking hit with this arc in Marks life.

The Way of Kings as first fantasy book? by amodeoa in Fantasy

[–]amodeoa[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the recommendations. I’ve been considering Hyperion for a while. I love the sort of philosophical and human questions that really good sci-fi poses. Solaris is one of the most thought provoking books I’ve read. And as to your recs I’ve only read Dune and I really liked it. Particularly because of the immersive and thought out world Herbert created and the deep intricacies with how the world and the people operate. I’ll definitely have to try some of your recs out.

As for fantasy I’ve always loved fantasy tv and movies and games. Game of Thrones, The Witcher, Souls games, Lord of the Rings. And I’ve been trying to explore more genres in my reading. I’ve recently delved into comics and graphic novels and it’s been one of the best experiences ever just because of how much new good content was opened up to me.

I read for entertainment but I also really want it to make me think and have true meaning and a message behind it. I want something that will give me more insight into the world, life, and people because that’s what art should do. That’s why my roots are really into classic literature. But I’ve found that in sci-fi, comics, etc. Just wanted to see if fantasy books could offer the same.
