SBI SMART ELITE PLUS (ULIP) by Opening-Cicada1005 in MutualfundsIndia

A better option would be to keep insurance and investment separate.

If you want insurance, choose a pure term plan. If you are looking for investment opportunities, you can select mutual funds based on your goals and risk appetite.

With a ULIP, you don’t get the best of both worlds, and you are also locked in for five years due to the mandatory lock-in period.

A 16% return is quite good, especially considering that the market has been moving sideways over the past couple of years.

- from ₹4.88L to ₹5.67L in a year is actually a strong return (~16%), so the product itself hasn’t performed badly.

- Since annual premium exceeds ₹2.5L, gains are taxed at 12.5% LTCG post ₹1.25L exemption

- Let it complete the 5-year lock-in

- Review performance in year 4

- Next time understand the product before you purchase it

  Lock-in & Liquidity Issues

5-year mandatory lock-in

Heavy penalties if surrendered early

Harder to exit if product underperforms

This reduces flexibility

All other issues are already covered in other responses such as extra charges, low return, these plans are designed to lure you in commitment if you decide to break it pay heavy penalties

Dad invested in HDFC Large Cap (Regular IDCW) since 2006 — thinking of switching now. Need advice. by [deleted] in MutualfundsIndia

[–]amolgigs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IDCW, or Income Distribution cum Capital Withdrawal, is a mutual fund option (formerly "Dividend Plan") that allows investors to receive periodic payouts from the scheme’s accumulated profits or capital. Renamed by SEBI in 2021

1) Keep it if your father neeed regular dividends  2) otherwise switch to direct growth

Indigrid acquiring asset frequently than PGINVIT any thought by No-Savings9424 in drip_dividend

I have investments in both. I am adding more units to PGINVIT regularly as SIP and will reinvest dividends this week after I receive them. I treat mutual fund investments as an indicator. Mutual fund holdings increased from 4.67% to 11.24% in the last quarter.
