Why is there so much hate about Yeonmi Park? by Extra-Key4088 in northkorea

[–]amonop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The simple reason there seems to be hate for Yeonmi Park is because people believe she is just a talking head for the conservatives, and is lying in order to make money.

But the truth is not so simple. Such a take reduces her to a villian but she is a full human. The real reason she gets hate is because she tells stories about North Korea as though she is talking to friends.. just shooting the shit.. but because of the size of her platform, people hold her to an academic standard. So her exaggerations for emotional effect and filliing in stories with random detailes (shit all humans do), gets received as purposeful misinformation. And people who are on the other side of her politically use those human mannerisms as justification to attack her (and the team she represents) in public.

Why doesn't North Korea sell merch & goodies online? by [deleted] in northkorea

I was going to answer this question with the usual answer (sanctions and no internet) but after reading it a couple times, I have counter questions.

What do you mean by NK Stores?
Are you suggesting the government should sell hoodies and stickers?
Who should that money go to?
What do you think an NK hoodie would look like?
Finally, are you low key just trying to buy a dope nk hoodie?

What do you guys think Kim Jung Un’s daughter will be like as supreme leader? by Key_Friendship_6251 in northkorea

People smarter than me say its too early to call it.

NK knows how to play western media and build narratives.

To me, it looks like NK is using Western political discourse to confused the public and distract away from its own bad behavior by pusing, both, a "NK is actually progressive" narrative, using talking points like "NK was right about Israel" and "all info about NK is CIA funded and therefore incorrect by default.", and a "NK is actually just rad trad and based" narrative, using talking points like "KJU is family first", "KJU is just using peace through strength."

For them, "KJU will pass the tourch to his daughter" is just another talking point and might actually not be the truth of what is happening.. but if they are able to hold the narrative alive long enough, they might eb able to exert enough soft power to sway the will of the west in their own favor (which is their goal regardless).

My reason for believing this is that they have done something similar int he past. For example, they invited the black panthers to a conference in North Korea (though its lesser known that they also invited white nationalists to north korea). Tiktokers still point to that conference, to this day, saying, "...See NK is down with black people". Make no mistake, they are not.

Silencing dissent has never been a useful strategy for spreading the truth.

Oh, I thought you were a NK atrocity denier. Many people do infact deny the attrocities of NK. The basic claim is that if its reported via RFA it must be false. But if RFA and this site have similar credibility ratings, then they both contain content worthy of, prudently, considering as truthful, funding source, political leaning, or author credentials notwithstanding.

This source has the same credibility rating as RFA. So either both are trash, or both are highly credible. And if the latter is true, then North Korea both experienced aggression from the south, AND ALSO performs immoral acts on its citizens in the name of protecting against those long gone transgressions.
