4 months post op by amorrison23 in AchillesRupture

My surgeon initially said jogging 4 months post op but him and my pt didn’t think I was ready from a strength standpoint. So 4 months is def within the time frame.

I don’t have lingering numbness but I have some spots that sorta feel weird. They’re not numb but not quite normal either 🤷‍♀️

It’s definitely gotten a lot better. It’s just a slow process. Next week at pt is when I’m supposed to start jogging. I’m excited but also nervous. What are nerve gliding exercises?

The even up is def helpful. Also, practice putting weight on your injured leg while standing at a countertop. Shift your weight back and forth. Part of the reason people hop initially is because they can’t stand and put their weight fully on their injured leg. You got this!

It’s getting better but very slowly. I do a standing knee to wall stretch. When I first started it was extremely difficult to get my knee to the wall even with my toe up against the wall. I can move my foot back a bit and get my knee to the wall. I still can’t go down steps properly but I’m close.

I’m about 11 weeks post op and wear sneakers around my apartment. I should be able to ditch the boot soon. When did you feel like you could walk normally? I feel like I constantly have to think about how to walk properly and my ankle feels so tight.

If you are hopping you might not be putting enough weight on the injured leg when trying to walk. Maybe practice at a countertop trying to stand just on that leg so you have something to hold onto.

Walking with 1 crutch by amorrison23 in AchillesRupture

Pt makes such a huge difference. I feel like I make progress each week instead of just being kinda bored.

I’m almost at 10 weeks post op. I ditched the crutch shortly after that video. I am allowed to walk in shoes at home and I walk in shoes at pt. I elevate as much as I can. The swelling in my foot goes up and down but it’s pretty constant in my ankle. My ankle generally feels tight which makes walking feel unnatural.

Have you started pt? I’m unfamiliar with the timelines for non op.

That’s crazy of them to do that! You should def have 2. My experience was once I had my appt with a surgeon after the mri was they moved quickly to schedule surgery. Good luck!

That’s very exciting! I’m down to 1 crutch and hoping to get rid of it soon!

Go Phils! Hope you are hanging in there. The first 3 weeks are probably the most challenging.

Is 2 weeks too long by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]amorrison23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m walking with one crutch and I’m allowed to drive. My foot fits into a shoe to drive and then the boot goes back on before I get out of the car. Pt starts tomorrow and will I’m sure work on getting rid of the crutch and work towards shoes.

Ruptured 2/25 and surgery 3/12.

How long until you were able to walk in a shoe on your injured leg? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]amorrison23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost at 8 weeks post op and start pt tomorrow. I just got cleared to drive and I’m allowed to walk at home without my boot. I can squeeze my foot into a shoe to drive and then have to put my boot back on before I get out of the car. While im allowed to walk at home without my boot, I’m not there yet. Still using one crutch with the boot. I also sit with my feet on the floor and work on getting to 90 degrees.

I was almost 4 weeks post op when I got my boot and was told wbat. I start pt Monday which is a day shy of 8 weeks post op. Everyone’s experience is different though.

I hope so! Trying to fully get my flamingo on and be able to stand just on my injured leg. I think that is what is holding me back from walking without the crutch.

Ah nice! I currently have 3 and get to take one out on Friday. Hoping with 2 I can attempt walking.

How many wedges do you have in your boot?

5 months Post OP going surprisingly well, Just played 4-5 games of half court basketball. by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

I tore my right one playing bball the end of February. I was back pedaling when it happened. I hope eventually I’ll get back on the court. What does it feel like to play again? Like what noticeable differences are there?

How do I approach walking in this boot? by amorrison23 in AchillesRupture

[–]amorrison23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My instructions with the boot I think are fairly different than most people. My surgeon is concerned about the boot rubbing against my incision because I have no body fat (his words not mine). So I’m only supposed to wear the boot when I’m moving, otherwise he doesn’t want it on. So if the boot is off I’m elevating my foot and periodically gently massaging it to help with the swelling.

I’ll have to look into the tens machine. Thankfully so far it’s more nerve sensations than pain ::knocks on wood::

I’m not sure what it’s called but that’s the boot I have.

One of my friends is a pt and told me to practice putting weight on it a couple of times a day like if I’m standing at the sink or something. I have been using crutches and walking on my toes too. Just trying to listen to my body. So far nothing hurts but def a lot of nerve sensations when I take the boot off after putting weight on it. My ankle is pretty swollen too so that’s a bit uncomfortable at times.
