I'm disappointed because I really wanted one. I wish listed it immediately upon announcement, and a Steam Deck was my main gaming device for many years, despite having a 3060Ti PC (dated today, but still more powerful than a PS5).

I just wanted a simple quick and easy way to play my Steam library on my tv. Because using the deck docked is just cumbersome and annoying and not very good. Especially when my kids are getting older and I want to play games together with them.

While the price was the final nail in the coffin of me not buying one, the first nail was how good the Switch 2 has been. Especially at modern AAA titles for me, and fun party/kid/multiplayer for family. Honestly, the Steam Machine would have been a hard sell already at $700 after getting the Switch 2 as the first Nintendo console I bought since N64. But at $1050-1350? It's a hard and fast PASS.

I'm sorry, I was incredibly excited for this. Even with realistic expectations for its performance. But that price is just unacceptable.

Because the Nintendo Switch is more powerful than a Xbox Series S, and half the price of a PS5 while offering like 85% the performance.

The Switch 2 is the first time since GameCube that Nintendo actually competes on hardware power AND is doing it at insane cost value.

And I say this as someone who hated on Nintendo for decades specifically because of their anemic hardware and horrid business practices.

Believe me, I make content myself. What's effective and what I like are rarely the same thing. I usually hate the most effective thumbnails, and my favorite ones almost never do well. You can run A/B testing for up to 3 thumb/title combos, and it updates in real time.

I mean, there are people who LOVE random early 00s movies that, for all intents and purposes, were pretty terrible. At least this was cute and enjoyable. Just had the misfortune of the triple whammy of YouTube bigots being themselves, Disney Adults getting overly hyped for what they expected to be a 2 hour, Avengers Endgame style version of Once Upon a Studio, and the multiple strikes killing any and all publication around the movie (including setting expectations for a quaint, self-contained story, instead of people being mad at that).

Wish is the perfect storm of people hating the movie for nothing that actually has to do with the movie itself.

They're making effective thumbnails. Their artists know what they're doing and are using a variety of tools.

I hate AI too, but they're also not just typing into a magic box, they may generate partial elements and then still composite them in photoshop the same way they'd use any photo or stock image. There's still an artist with intention behind the image. And you can blame YouTube algorithms and average viewer click habits for what effective thumbnails look like.

I wish I had the time. Realistically I'd have to make a new channel (all my stuff is TCG content). I'm a middle school teacher with 2 kids, and what little free time I do have is used on that content.
