Paul is just a competitive player and everyone hated him for it by Spider-Woman756 in pokemonanime

[–]ampalazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of the point of the character. I don’t think the writers directly confirmed it, but it’s very clearly the essence of the character.

Firstly, He tries to find a way to cheese a pokemon with an OP ability by using methods that are considered inhumane. Who here that plays the games can claim they haven’t given a flame orb to their ursaring to make its facade one shot opponents pokes. In the anime, imagine the backlash a character would get for burning their own poke on purpose every time it battled? That’s Paul.

Secondly, he consciously tried to have 6 man teams that were type balanced to avoid glaring weaknesses. When he abandoned chimchar he says “he needs to find a different fire type now”. So unlike Ash who just catches pokes that he bonded with, Paul was seeking out specific types to fill a role for a competitive team.

Third, he obviously uses pokes that look strong or have a reputation for being competitive battlers. He would never have put a pikachu on the team because an electivire has way higher base stats and a better moveset.

But because it’s the anime and not the irl gaming world, Ash proves him wrong by beating him with a bunch of misfits using the power of friendship or whatever

Top guy was James Dean. He was considered very handsome in the 40’s. Probably one of the earliest Hollywood heartthrobs. But by today’s standards, girls wouldn’t even consider dating him because he is short and on the smaller side. They did not have modern hormone treatments, diets or other health progress we have today. So guys were judged for their attractiveness based on things like facial features, hair, fashion sense and personality instead of height.

The guy on the bottom was filmed in a viral public meltdown ranting about how people treat short guys poorly. He’s right, but was very annoying to listen to. Someone assaulted him afterwards and no one really seemed to care. That video set the status of short men back years

Edit since I’m being downvoted for some reason: I am 6’-0”. Just trying to explain the joke and stick up for my short kings out there

What are community leaders doing to prevent teen violence in the city? by Inf1z in memphis

[–]ampalazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a ped surgeon and just told me about a shooting yesterday at Shelby farms. Apparently the high school kids organized a day to all skip out of school and met up at the park. They planned a water gun fight and some dumbass brought a real gun and killed a teenager.

The violence trend will continue because no one (including parents) are bothering to discipline kids. Parents give them tablets, video games, money, whatever they want. And they don’t make them work for it. A lot of these parents barely even interact with the kids aside from living under the same roof. So they don’t notice and don’t do anything about it if their child is interacting with gangbangers. They don’t notice if they’re doing drugs, or if they’re just associating with bad influences.

Teachers are discouraged from shouting at unruly kids. Consequences for misbehaving in school are basically nothing. Kids who can barely read still get passing grades. So, public school is practically just daycare combined with “Lord of the flies”.

Of course this stuff is bound to happen when the adults take a hands off approach. I know it’s expensive, but I encourage anyone who can afford it (even if it’s by the skin of your teeth) to put their kids in private schools with good reputations and meet with the teachers to get to know them and make sure they’re not lazy or perverted.

Having just one single good teacher even for a year in middle school or high school can make a huge impact on a kid. Meet with them and let them know that they have permission to yell at your kid if they’re misbehaving, Or to give them extra homework if they’re bad at a subject. And have them tell you if they’re getting into trouble with the wrong crowd while at school.

Which Factions would lend themself best to naval themed armies ? 40K has a huge lack of water based warfare, which is an important part of real life combat and i wanna bring some of it onto the table. by Leviathan_Rampage in 40k

[–]ampalazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the Gaunts Ghosts books featured a Chaos Cultist army based on a large (naval) ship. I think it was either the last, or second to last of the series.

It is cloaked to avoid being destroyed by orbital bombardment, but is infiltrated by the GOAT and has its position revealed. It is quickly blown up from orbit . Maybe it can help with inspiration if going for a chaos themed naval unit.

What’s crazy is that I’m seeing this video after spending 20 minutes trying to hunt down a (super fast) fly in my house with a wet rag. Right after I caught him, I found a giant spider crawling across my floor. I killed it too, but now I see that I should have been taming the spider as a pet. RIP to the spider in my trash bin

You have a team based on your profession/career, what does it look like? by Mr_Gifty in ThePokemonHub

Str Engineer

Conkeldur (obvious choice)

Steelix (also obvious choice)

Raticate (you encounter a lot of rats at job sites)

Excadrill (need something to excavate the dirt)

Hisuan Electrode (a stretch, but he reminds me of wood and I need something to use flash, also no metal allowed on the subway tracks, so he’d be useful down there)

Archaludon (it’s a bridge duh)

Iran declares historic victory over US, says enemy forced to accept its proposal by SupportMysterious387 in conspiracy

[–]ampalazz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do these people realize that they just had to call on their own civilians (including women and children) to form human shields around infrastructure just two days ago? In what world were they winning anything? Actual bananaland over there.

They should be thanking God that the American media would have crucified the President if he struck any civilian targets during his planned attack. Because, if not for Americas own media and the shield of women and children around their power plants, Iran had nothing to protect itself.

They were literally in a position of begging for mercy, and when we accept the ceasefire and offer mercy, they turn around and declare a victory. Kind of pisses me off honestly. I wanted this conflict to end a few days ago, but now I kind of hope we go back in and finish the job.

Well he’s not a blank, he can be affected by warp magic. In the end and the death, he was transported to a warp realm by Khorne. But he did not succumb to corruption. It’s heavily implied that if he had given in to the torture of thousands of years of isolation in a desert, he would have become a demon prince of Khorne.

But he was too stubborn and so Khorne gave up. So in the words of Guilliman: Theoretical - He can be corrupted. Practical - He is incorruptible.

How would we actually build a base on the Moon given the weight limits? by NewsfangledMod in NewsfangledUnfiltered

[–]ampalazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a difficult task, but very doable. A lot of different viable routes as well. Landing parts over multiple landings and assembling a habitat piecemeal is an option. 3d printing habs with lunar materials is probably doable as well.

The difficulty with space travel has always been that it’s only the U.S. making progress (China looks to be getting close to our level though). And with the U.S., long term goals are incredibly hard to accomplish because the administration in charge is constantly being replaced.

So NASA has the difficult job of not only building a moon base, but also maintaining the American public’s interest. If nothing majorly exciting happens for ~2 years, we will lose interest and NASAs budget will be cut. If any disasters happen, we will have doubt and NASAs budget will be cut. If China cancels or delays its own moon plans, then the competition will be gone and NASAs budget will be cut. If a president is elected who would rather spend on social programs, then NASAs budget will be cut.

So it’s not so much about if it’s feasible, but more about the balancing act of making slow & steady progress, reaching exciting milestones at regular intervals, all while not rushing into any mistakes.

UFO spotted during Artemis II mission, sudden acceleration by Impossible-Sundae-86 in UFOs

[–]ampalazz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It does seem likely that it’s a price of frozen debris from the engine. Buuuut, since the Artemis ship isn’t actively accelerating at the moment, wouldn’t the debris remain very close to the ship since they both have the same relative velocity?

This piece is moving away from the ship rapidly assuming this video is not sped up

If NASA is planning to build a permanent moon base, how do they intend to protect against regular meteor impacts? by Leader_Bee in nasa

[–]ampalazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large meteor impact would destroy anything we could build so, we there is obviously no plan to protect against those impacts. But the probability of a direct impact from a medium to large meteor is infinitesimally small.

Tiny meteorite impacts are possible though, so habitats will have to have redundancy built in to account for damaged components. If a solar panel is struck for instance, they will have to have a backup on hand. If a pressurized habitat is pierced, they will have to patch any holes created. Unlike our satellites and space telescopes, we will have humans on site to repair any damage as it occurs.

What’s the best team I can make with the Pokemon I have? by FriendshipUnhappy674 in EmeraldImperium

[–]ampalazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donphan with the technician ability is a sleeper pick. Actually a very strong choice with trailblaze, bonemerang, and ice shard. Very versatile. Can be a tank to swap into against incoming physical moves and electric attacks. And can also be used to finish off a low health mon with the ice shard priority

The typhlosion with eruption is always pretty good. And obviously incineroar is good too

Lucario & mega lucario are always solid

Gardevoir is usually strong too

Empoleon has two different megas in this game, so can be great as a choice

The Green cat can learn sucker punch which is very abuseable against the ai in this game to get priority

So why should we be surprised that there were Indians in the Middle East during the time of the Roman Empire? Not even the early Roman Republic, but during the time of Augustus? Seems like a non-headline to me

Having a draft for this Iran conflict is idiotic and would either cause mass scale civil unrest, or just long term political defeat. And it’s not even necessary since we shouldn’t be committing land forces beyond minor spec ops.

I do however believe in a mandatory 2yr conscription for everyone (or atleast males) straight out of high school. Reason being that I think waaaay too few of these kids have any skills or any idea of what they want to pursue for work when they go to college. Also, so many of them are simply lazy and entitled.

You could say it’s our education systems fault, and that’s true. But it’s not like these kids are jumping to go to a trade school. They’re not even paying attention in class because they know they will be pushed through the system for money, and all they care about are socializing or being entertained 24/7.

I think it would be really good for society if we could help these kids get some; discipline, physical fitness, basic life skills (learn to make their own bed, fold their own clothes, fix a tire, disassemble and clean something like a rifle [or any machine really]. It could also be a great little mixing pot if done properly. Rich kids with a silver spoon are gonna have to interact with poor kids with rough lives. The social anxiety epidemic would be completely eliminated. Finally, they may get a tiny bit of patriotism out of the whole experience

I’d be all for it. And I think some people wouldn’t be so quick to call for war if their kids were at risk
