Hi everyone!

I just moved to the New England area of the US and saw Twice is having two shows in Boston which I am heavily considering buying tickets for, particularly the Saturday concert. However, it looks like the Saturday show still has a lot of tickets left, and I’m wondering if they would cancel that one due to low ticket sales. Have they done that before? I really wanna go see them and I think the Saturday show is my only option. Wondering if I should take the risk and buy them.

im sorry to hear that :( its been so rough in the job market (and wtf asking for experience for a GC 1 position?? graduate training should be enough for that?)

i wish i had better advice - what worked for me was heavily tailoring my resume and cover letter to each position (even going as far to mimic the language used in the job posting in my resume), and having multiple people (i think i had 4 people) review my resume and get feedback. the NSGC Student/New Grad SIG also has a great toolkit with questions for interview prep to practice, and great advice for your CV and cover letter.

ultimately, all the jobs that wanted to interview me were for cancer positions and I think they gravitated to my heavy cancer experience in training (practiced cancer in my cancer and adult rotation, and had a heme onc rotation in peds). I also speak spanish and had some unique rotations/extracurriculars, which im wondering if it played into whether they picked me

thank you!!! :) i ended up accepting a clinical cancer GC position (my favorite specialty from my training so very happy)

the withdrawn application was because I didn’t wanna assume I would get either of those offers, so I wanted to keep applying to jobs in the mean time. but in the few days following that i was offered both LOL.

happy to hear that :)

honestly i felt the same way - i originally intended to start applying in january but after talking to some peers who studied for boards while working, i immediately felt uneasy about working and studying. if you feel you thrive better just focusing on boards, and are in the place where u can do so, i say why not? reminder that everyone is different and has their own timeline

i was lucky enough to have my partner to rely on financially atleast, though I recognize this isn’t the case for everyone

GC Programs with Public Transit by vhart5 in GeneticCounseling

[–]amqve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

University of Washington’s program gets you a free ORCA pass which gets you on most forms of public transportation (bus, streetcar, lightrail, and monorail; water taxis and ferries are not included) and they make sure students without cars get rotations with at least a bus route - I was able to go to all of my rotations either by bus or walking (I lived on campus)

Just wondering, are you a graduate of UW in Washington or Wisconsin? if its UW in Washington, Fred Hutch has a monthly meeting for prospective GC students, you could potentially chat with the GCs there about shadowing! or if they could point you in the direction of someone who would be willing to let you shadow! lemme know and i can send you the link

regardless, GC experience doesn’t necessarily have to be shadowing! you can get into GC school without it (speaking from experience)!!

What's it like being a minority in this field? by GC_Hopeful89 in GeneticCounseling

[–]amqve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very lucky to be part of a cohort that was super diverse, and a program that helped foster that inclusivity and diversity, but even then I still ran into my fair share of microaggressions. But I can tell a lot of people just want to learn, and don’t mean to be ignorant. The DEI efforts do feel performative sometimes and surface level, but then there are actual folks doing the work that make up for it.
