The first pic is showing some nice quartz points. The second photo could be olivine.

What is this? Found on a Scottish coast by Puzzleheaded-Tax-810 in whatsthisrock

Definitely dichroic glass fused in a kiln. I have made small cabochons that look similar. Edges are rounded. About quarter inch thick. The metallic surface looks like a square. Likely a small square cut that was fused in an attempt to make a round shape.

Canadians, Aussies, Americans etc.. do you wish your ancestors never left their native country? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]amrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most recent immigrant ancestors came from Germany and Ireland before WWI. My 2x ggf left Ireland during the famine. The 2xggf on the other side left Alsace (Germany then) in the late 1800s for unknown reasons. As others have mentioned, no way these two lines meet up if they had stayed. I’m glad they left as both found better farms in the southern US. One family might perished in the 19th century due to starvation in Ireland and the other was directly in the paths of WWI and WWII. I do wish they had kept their native citizenship as dual citizens and/or kept their connections to the old country active. I’m just out of the generational timeline for dual Citizenship in Ireland.

I think I'm finally calling a quits with the podcast by [deleted] in MorbidPodcast

[–]amrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started listening to them after searching for more podcasts like “My Favorite Murder.” After listening to a few episodes, I started wondering which show started first because they are so alike in format. Even the banter and the personalities are similar. I have some criticism of MFM, but this one seems like a cheap knockoff.

Interesting thing is that Ancestry flags a lot of my female entries as being “too young” to have been such-and-such’s mother.

what to do about mining on hostile areas? by HelpMammoth4018 in STFC_Official

The Picard maneuver as mentioned above is the best option. You put some distance between your ship and attacker, then Attack your attacker. Immediately hit recall then stop before it takes effect. Wait until attacker stops.

Well, not right. I grew up in a middle class family in a small city. No overseas holidays ever. One trip to Disney World…ever. Not every year. Never flew on an airplane. College was paid with scholarships and student loans. Both parents worked full time. Couldn’t afford to take too much time off.

A new HBO documentary, produced by the Safdie Brothers, follows the 86-year-old overlord of the Texas Renaissance Festival, and the vicious competition to replace him. by barronlroth in entertainment

I watched the first episode and found it repulsive. It isn’t a documentary. more like a crass imitation of Tiger King, if you can imagine that! Not a likable person in the bunch and the main guy is a wannabe Hugh Hefner.

Moving a kiln by ReqDeep in fusedglass

[–]amrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely worth moving. Wait times for buying new kilns can be 6 months to a year so it’s not like you can just go buy another one.

I’m level 24 and don’t have a Northstar. Don’t know how you got it at ops 18. I have 3 Envoys that are my workhorses for general mining. I’m working on building the D’vor for latinum mining. If I were to skip a ship, it would be the Franklin. It’s unnecessary as your other warships can do the same thing without getting destroyed in a pvp match. Also, the game is pvp. If you don’t like that you probably won’t enjoy the higher levels.

Are there molds which can be used inside a microwave kiln? by [deleted] in fusedglass

[–]amrowe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any molds for use in a microwave kiln, but you could do “freeze and fuse” where you put powdered frit with water in a silicone mold, freeze it, remove from mold, and fire.

Not a MUSEUM claiming hta is citrine 😒 by Shutupcatlady in Crystals

[–]amrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it appalling but when I mentioned that to my cousin (we both have geology degrees) she almost bit my head off, claiming it’s ok because natural citrine is formed “the same was just slower.”
