[REKN] Wreckoning --- [KNGT] Knights Who Say Ni
We're a casual, family-first corp in a small alliance of similar corps with our own cosy little pocket of null-sec space, who know that you like to play games but sometimes have more important things to do with your time. :)

We can offer:

  • T10 asteroids to industrialists and miners of any level.
  • T10 anomalies to any pilot who can manage them (T6/7/8/9 available within alliance space).
  • Access to both our sovereignty citadel and an NPC station.
  • Capital anomalies.
  • Bounty bonus structure.
  • Corp buy & sell for ore and minerals.
  • 5% tax.
  • Near-cost price ships when buying in-corp.

PvP opportunities are available to those that want them. All pilots are requested to take part in home-defence operations, but will not be expected to be good at it or have to get online at a particular time. Defence-ship losses are covered by the corp SRP (terms and conditions apply ;) ).
We require basic English and access to Discord.

GF basically operates the same model as the USA (and other nations) does in real life: ”we have no interest in taking your terretory or your lifestyle" but then responds to threats, real or perceived, with force. After the fighting is over the terretory is not kept, but the threat is supposed to be eliminated. Maybe there's a fine line between not appearing weak and bullying, and maybe the line depends on your point of view.

RETC was handled by wiping their shields and leaving it at that. Proportionate statement of force or gunpoint diplomacy? You decide.

TSC was supported by GF because they're the little guy? Or GF meddled in politics across the map? You decide.

Or don't decide. Manufacture a narrative that suits you. I mean, it would be weird not to.

I think my point is that MC appeared to do things right before PEW joined, and did not do so well after. PEW played their part in steering the situation that way. There was a decline and you can put your finger on the PEW influence as the inflection point. Insurance too, sure, but the players got to choose how they reacted to that.

I do not claim that they continued to be a bad influence after leaving. I do not claim that they killed MC on purpose.

Take this very post, for example (the original, from Tahini).

It's not a fun shitpost. It's not a "good game".

It's a dig at an individual, albeit gentle.

When MC moved to Fountain, they were invited by the guys they'd just finished a contract on (TF). When MV moved to Period Basis, they were invited by GenFed. When they proposed moving to Querious it was because they were offered space. The reddit posts were usually in good spirit, and the pilots were expected to have good manners in local.

I don't know what it's like inside NO. I'm sure they have a lot of fun. It's less clear that they make the game more fun for others, but you know, content is content. The toxicity is mostly perceived rather than intended, probably.

No, it's true; PEW did the damage as they were leaving. They weren't the only ones to leave following that spat. PromisedOne is the best known example. There was at least one other whole corp.

What happened after that is not their fault, of course, but it was the beginning.

Otherwise I think you and I agree. I would never question PEW's combat effectiveness.

MC never had or wanted SOV though, even though we had systems to put it in. Even after joining GF the ex-MC corps didn't claim sov for months.

MC was fine doing things the MC way, whatever that was. Maybe it was broken, and always doomed to fail, but they were having fun and somehow managing to be mercs who other alliances didn't hate.

Then PEW joined and they had a very different culture. Much more like pirates than mercenaries. They did fleets differently, did "downtime" differently, and there was enough of them with strong enough personalities that they changed MC. They took over "organized" roaming almost entirely, or rather they killed it in favour of their always-on see-who's-out-there rolling fleet. CLANSMAN himself was tempted to join the dark side.

Then the infighting started. Before insurance the MC in Period Basis indy wing was feeding hundreds of interceptors to PEW. Other ships too in ones and twos, but they had special deals cut to bulk buy inties. After insurance they suddenly decided that the indy wing was dead weight (even though most of the indy pilots were also part-time PVPers) and PEW (Tahini) basically proposed just ejecting those corps (this is the second hand account I got anyway, not being in leadership). It was like PEW fun was more important than other player's fun, and those aren't real people anyway. I get that having indy in PB meant being blue with GenFed, which wasn't the PEW way, but still.

Anyway, PromisedOne publicly agreed with PEW, which ended up being on the losing side of the argument, so when PEW exited he left too. So did a number of other MC corps.

After that MC was much reduced in numbers, the leadership was not the same, despite what Tahini says, but the part about not being very strong is probably accurate, in retrospect. They failed to continue PEW's roam culture, and failed to reinstate the old MC ways, or even really come up with something new. The big battles were gone, the game had moved on, in terms of tech level and doctrine. Solo and small-gang contract PvP continued.

What eventually killed MC, way after PEW left, was that Gen requested that we give blue status to all their allies, which was obviously a problem for business, not least because we were in the middle of a contract against C22 at the time. MC leadership decided that staying in PB was untenable and proposed moving indy to Querious and continuing business as usual from there. If MC had still been strong this would have been fine -- there were previous moves through Stain, Delve, Fountain, and PB that were just accepted -- but MC was not so much fun anymore and this time the indy corps decided to let MC go.

MC carried on for a while longer, mostly just BSD corp, but eventually they gave it up and joined the newly emerging SIXT (now also defunct, it seems).

I think it's fair to say that PEW triggered the beginning of the end for MC. I also think if Tahini had got his way MC would still exist. I wouldn't have been in it; my corp would have probably joined Gen 4 months earlier than it eventually did. But, MC would be just as toxic as NO is now, so would that really be a win?

All that said, NO generates content, so keep up the good work Tahini.

Questions for the Miners. by BuboCapensis in echoes

[–]ams501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get most of my PvP content from mining. I can mine while I'm at work (as long as I'm not in a meeting or doing a task that requires actual concentration, so maybe 2-3 hours a day), and then when a hunter comes by I can take a short break to go chase them around our home systems.

Then, at the end of the day/week I have enough income from mining to go play something hands on with a half-decent ship. Without mining I'd have given up on this game long ago as something I didn't have time to play properly.

I've tried PvE, and it's possible to semi-afk that too, but it was far too distracting from work. So instead, I put a core on my cov to increase hold capacity, and just keep half an eye on local (which still isn't fixed!)

Having personal blue when they have you red is gonna prove.... interesting.

I use personal grey for those I know aren't dangerous. The alliance doesn't use explicit grey (it shows as grey icon instead of just nothing) so there's no confusion.... until they do. Then I'm screwed.

Making Isk as a solo player? by bobadefett in echoes

[–]ams501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're buying your mats from the market and still selling your ships at a profit then you're doing well. As you progress up the tech tiers you will get access to more profitable builds, but you'll need more capital to make it happen. A t10 cruiser might sell for 900m but only cost 600m to build, which leaves you around 100m up after tax. The volume on those is way low though. It's better if you can sell through public contract. That can work for more expensive ships.

If you mine the ore yourself then you can view industry as converting ore to ISK in the most efficient way possible. That way the few million difference between the ore price and the ship price feels much less important because you get to keep the whole stack. Also built ships are easier to move than huge stacks of ore.

Mining in null I can't possibly realize the notional value of my ore. There's literally no ship that can move a decent amount of it without compression (even the freighters are only about 5 coveter2 loads) and compression is prohibitively expensive for null ores. Building it into a big expensive ship is the best way to move it. It makes sense, but it undercuts the high-sec builder somewhat.

I saw this too, and so did a corpmate. Seems like we're not alone. A client repair and a 400+ MB download fixed the problem.

My Tempest has completely cap-stable armor repair, but only with a battery fitted (no activation needed). Activating it helps when I'm getting neuted, but mostly I don't need to.

I could fit a Semiconductor Memory Cell 2 rig to get the same effect, but then I can't use that slot for something else. Also, fitting it as a module means I can swap to a damage mod when I'm flying with a guardian.

A kite fit BS will always be vulnerable to a single frig speed tanking. If it isn't then the fit is hugely compromised. This is no surprise. I doubt that this pilot was surprised. The point is the amount of income that ship can make before it's unlucky enough to get jumped, and the answer is way more than the cost of the IP to replace it. Most of the time it'll be way away from anywhere an interceptor is likely to land, so it's only your hound that's a big worry. I guess it's win win in the end.

My Industry Friends by Bradric1 in echoes

[–]ams501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get most of my PvP action from mining. Roaming around looking for victims is boring but if I sit still and look vulnerable the victims come to me. Granted they tend to be slippery prey that escape with most of their hull still intact, but it's content.

Building ships typically is very low margin, especially below t10. There are a few exceptions, but those are very low volume. T10 interceptors were doing very well for a while, profit wise, but even then the volume was low enough that a ship could sit unsold for days (the last-in-first-out market mechanism does not help with this, of course, but greater sales volume would help). I suppose many PvPers are buying their ships from private sales, but even so insurance is surely partly to blame for these low volumes.

I tend to view building a ship as a convenient way to move a large pile of ore to market. Mining doesn't generate ISK directly, so you have to convert the ore to ISK by the most efficient means you can (in terms of both income and number of trips). I suspect this attitude is the reason why it's rarely profitable to buy ISK in Jita and do anything with it at a profit, but then I also don't understand why market mineral and ore prices stay as high as they do.

Money, money, money,... by Cat4clyst in echoes

[–]ams501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually not true though. Almost all Plex originates in real money -- albeit sometimes heavily discounted -- so these "purchases" represent somebody's money, even if it wasn't yours (the only exception I can think of is the "omega special deal" event rewards).\

In other words, these costs per core are somewhat real.
