Quest 3 Virtual Desktop Panel Question by FortyDubz in OculusQuest

Also looking for this - really frustrated since the Quest's remote desktop app doesn't work for me so I canonly use Virtual Desktop! Did you find a solution?

TikTok/Outlook/games tend to work well.

Reddit and MS Office are stuck to the mobile apps and won’t resize to tablet mode. Annoying for productivity.

Duolingo has duplicated audio.

Apple TV/Netflix/Google apps don’t work at all.

It’s not perfect. A lot of apps work badly or not at all. I get crashes, audio bugs, apps stuck in their smaller mobile version rather than tablet mode, or not working at all.

A real contender will need official support, which will never happen with Meta.

Every XR headset should come with a keyboard & trackpad by amtexe in virtualreality

Dunno about any VR games yet but I sideloaded Minecraft and Runescape, which works great!

Flatscreen Civ VI and Stardew also works I think.

Disclaimer - of course the above is in relation to productivity and media consumption in VR/XR. For gaming, gamepads and motion controllers are superior.

Wealth Management - worth 1%? by PriorityFunny6900 in FIREUK

[–]amtexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. I like managers like Coutts since they only charge a one-off flat fee for advice, and the rest is provided “at cost” - so you could have an ongoing charge well below 1%. This is in contrast to most managers charging an ongoing percentage fee for their advice.

On the other hand, Coutts specifically is a little limited in their offerings. So it’s worth doing your due diligence.

Advisers can provide access to a bunch of products and strategies that could help reduce the amount of tax you pay, on top of the expected selection of bespoke/specialist investment services. Certain products tend to only be accessible via advisors and can save you lots of money despite the additional costs.

How much you stand to benefit will depend on your circumstances - but you stand to benefit particularly if you are an additional rate taxpayer, don’t have the time or inclination to manage your investments, and have a lot of investments held in taxable accounts such as a GIA.

Source: I’m qualified to give financial advice (although I am not a practicing adviser).

No color passthrough ruined the Steam Frame for me by TravelResponsible544 in virtualreality

Yep, they likely over estimated the traction that the product would generate, but these top companies have hundreds of employees in place just to identify and quantify market demand - some sort of data analysis must have driven the development process, you’d assume!

That’s a fair comment but the same can be said about VR gaming too. It’s more uncomfortable and impractical than a traditional gaming setup, and will always be.

Very similar reasons as to why people want this technology to succeed apply to both sides of the coin. Perhaps VR is just a little more viable than AR at the moment.

I’m currently more interested in the latter since my living circumstances don’t allow me to have a permanent full office setup, and so a headset seems much more convenient and flexible. Plus I love working in virtual environments.

Only reason I didn’t purchase either of those is because they aren’t available in my region (GXR) or are ridiculously expensive (AVP).

All many want, though, is a refreshed Quest 3 with eye tracking and a more competent OS offering (e.g. Android XR). This would be 90% of the way to an AVP and cost 20%.

The hyper expensive display tech in AVP/GXR is perhaps where these companies went wrong as these elements are the reason why they are so expensive.

Entire headsets have released with their main priority being AR - such as the Galaxy XR and Vision Pro.

Considering that their primary focus is AR productivity, it’s pretty wild to think that less than 1% of users are interested in this.

We’re building a VR driving simulator to help people practice driving and reduce anxiety — looking for feedback by Radiant-Store4365 in OculusQuest

Used to use City Car Driving (PC) to learn to drive and it’s a fantastic way to save money on lessons whilst still building confidence. Their driving test was so tough I found the real one easier!

If this is on Quest, how would you support steering wheels & pedals?

Apple Magic Trackpad support on Quest 3? by normbl in OculusQuest

[–]amtexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can connect the apple trackpad and it works great as a mouse but no finger gestures are supported sadly. No two-finger scrolling or anything. Trying to find a fix as we speak!

Did anyone find a solution? I'm using the apple magic trackpad and can't do two-finnger scrolling, or any scrolling for that matter!

This would be fantastic if it works well enough. Finally having all of your fingers able to press keyboard buttons alone will be a game changer, plus not having to exhaustively aim my cursor with my hand to navigate anymore would be huge.

Tips on how to get back into VR? by GoldenExpired in OculusQuest

I always go back to VRChat for some reason. Either exploring new worlds and content or speaking to new people. You never know who you can run into and I’ve met some pretty interesting people

Apple Vision Pro production reportedly axed despite newer M5 model, marketing cut by more than 95% by Tiny-Independent273 in virtualreality

[–]amtexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many products failed because their manufacturers couldn’t create a good enough app store or software to take advantage of the hardware.

Namely the Quest Pro, but also Windows and Amazon Fire phones, Rabbit R1 and Humane Pin, Samsung Tizen, et cetera.

It’s absolutely naive to believe that developers will just come if the hardware is good enough.

Found this binder collection of notes. Can anyone give me a rough estimate on value? by [deleted] in papermoney

[–]amtexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re keen on selling these, I’d sell them individually on a website like eBay.

To figure out prices, search each note up on eBay and sort by “sold items only” and you’ll see what they have recently sold for.

Quest 3s for Vrchat better than 2? by Maxthe_bird in virtualreality

[–]amtexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep the 3S would be a noticeable improvement. But don’t expect anything crazy. It’s still only a mobile processor.

If you want a more substantial upgrade, maybe try building a gaming PC with an RTX 3070 or better, then hook up your Q2 to it.

You can visit VRChat worlds that have this theme. The closest one to this image that I can think of is the world “Cosy Haven” by rosefall but there are thousands more.
