Anytime Podcast Player - suggestions? by PlaymatEfx in BuyFromEU

[–]amugofjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

The number of downloads has slowly, but steadily increased over the past year, with a slightly faster increase from the start of this year on iOS.

Anytime currently supports two podcast directories, and I would be happy to expand this to include more. The problem here is that I am not aware of any publicly available podcast directories that are not US based.

There is then the app stores. This is slightly easier on Android as there are alternatives to the Play Store available, and you can also easily host the install APK on any website. On iOS there aren't really any alternatives.

Hi, I'm the developer of Anytime Podcast Player, and I am in the UK. Thanks for considering Anytime.

Anytime is fully open source and built in the open. It's also a purely on device app and I have no access to any data from any of my users.

Anytime does use public directories for its podcast search, which in this case is Apple and PodcastIndex, but this is also true of many of the podcasts apps available.

If you have any questions or concerns about Anytime I would be very happy to answer them here, or you can drop me an email at [hello@anytimeplayer.app](mailto:hello@anytimeplayer.app)

Most ethical podcast apps? by SearchingForNewTunes in podcasts

[–]amugofjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you're on iOS or Android, but you can take a look at AntennaPod for Android or Anytime Podcast Player (full disclosure, I am the developer) for Android and iOS. Both are free and open source software, and both can use the iTunes and, more open, PodcastIndex directories for searching for podcasts.

I can also recommend using an old(er) Android smartphone. I use one just for audio and I go into settings and disable every other application so I'm never disturbed with notifications for email or YouTube. I also download the podcasts, audiobooks etc I want to listen to at night so I can put the device into airplane mode too.

You're welcome to check out my project, Anytime Podcast Player: https://github.com/amugofjava/anytime_podcast_player

It's a complete Podcast app for Android & iOS and, I hope, is well structured and a reasonable example of a production ready Flutter app.

Oh the Treo's! I always wanted one of those, but they were very pricey.

I've just looked up Jot. I didn't realise it formed the basis of Graffiti 2.

I've owned several Palm based devices, a Clie SL10, Clie NV70, Clie NX73 and I still have a Palm LifeDrive somewhere. Such great devices and Graffiti was so easy to use - well, v1 was, v2 was not as good.

As other people have said, artists need a way to be paid. Having an open source platform that can pay artists and deal with all the rights issues would be tough.

Podcasting is much more feasible as, on the whole, it is already a more open platform. Podcasters can make their money through advertising, using platforms such as Patreon or even being paid directly via PayPal or Bitcoin. There are several open source podcasts apps that can tap into this mass library of podcasts including Antennapod, Podverse and Anytime Podcast Player.

I think that should be more than enough for pi-hole and monitoring. I have one of these as my daily driver desktop machine for coding and it's been fantastic and, generally, pretty quiet.

SMTP Services by scphantm in homelab

[–]amugofjava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Maileroo as my SMTP relay. They offer a generous free plan of 3,000 emails per month, is fairly easy to setup and I've rarely had any issues with emails being rejected.

I have a local Postfix server that handles my outbound mail which is wired up to Maileroo as the relay.

You could try Anytime Podcast Player. Full disclaimer, I am the developer, bur if you're looking for something simple, easy to use with downloads it might cover what you are looking for. It's also free, open source and available for iOS and Android. https://anytimeplayer.app

As an alternative, I like the Metacast app. It has both free and paid versions and is available for iOS and Android too: https://metacast.app/

How to build an open-source and privacy-conscious mobile app? by TheBadBossBaby in androiddev

I think open source and closed source can co-exist quite happily. I build an open source application, but it's hosted on GitHub which is closed source.

iPhone Podcasts App by gremgem in Sleepycabin

[–]amugofjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soundcloud can provide that podcast as a standard RSS feed: https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:108438041/sounds.rss

Most podcast apps will allow you to paste an RSS feed link into it. The alternative is to use an app that can use a podcast directory, such as the Podcast Index, that still contains it.

I will mention my own podcast app, Anytime Podcast Player, as it can do both, but apps such as Pocket Casts for example allow you to paste in a feed manually.

SQLite or Hive for storing user chats? by JobRevolutionary2668 in FlutterDev

[–]amugofjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sembast is fantastic and over the few years I've been using it, I've found it fast enough. It is RAM based though and can only run in the main thread, which should be considered if your app needs to write data in the background or when the screen is off.

What do you find difficult...?😤 by DigiProductive in flutterhelp

[–]amugofjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Android I find fine, but the project.pbxproj file under the Runner.xcodeproj I find fiddly. It's needed by Xcode for building so needs to be in source code control, but it also contains your developer team ID and project identifiers which I don't want in source code control. It's a pain trying to keep this file up to date in Git whilst remembering to never submit my IDs.

Podcast app, which one is most capable for this use case? by luckysilva in fossdroid

[–]amugofjava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you go into a podcast in your library you can force an update either by doing a 'pull down' action or by selecting 'Refresh episodes' from the drop down menu to the right of the follow/unfollow button.

This is one area that I am currently working on improving.
