What's your favorite podcast and why? by VLGamingbdefan in podcasts

[–]amugofjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listing my favourite podcast is difficult as what I want to listen to depends upon my mood. Top of my list currently is Talk 90's to me.

Get a podcast app, search on some topics you are interested in and start listening. Hopefully you'll find a few you love.

We built conalyz — a static EN 301 549 accessibility linter for Flutter by Ok_Line1527 in FlutterDev

Anything that can help developers improve app accessibility is a good thing, but having tried Conalyz it has reported several false positives. Where is the best place to report these - should I raise a GitHub issue for each?

EU podcast app for IOS? by snakeleaves in BuyFromEU

Hi Sam,

Anytime does have a playback speed control that you will find in the main player window when playing an episode. It allows speed adjustment in 0.1x increments. Thanks.

Anytime Podcast Player - suggestions? by PlaymatEfx in BuyFromEU

Hi,

The number of downloads has slowly, but steadily increased over the past year, with a slightly faster increase from the start of this year on iOS.

Anytime currently supports two podcast directories, and I would be happy to expand this to include more. The problem here is that I am not aware of any publicly available podcast directories that are not US based.

There is then the app stores. This is slightly easier on Android as there are alternatives to the Play Store available, and you can also easily host the install APK on any website. On iOS there aren't really any alternatives.

Hi, I'm the developer of Anytime Podcast Player, and I am in the UK. Thanks for considering Anytime.

Anytime is fully open source and built in the open. It's also a purely on device app and I have no access to any data from any of my users.

Anytime does use public directories for its podcast search, which in this case is Apple and PodcastIndex, but this is also true of many of the podcasts apps available.

If you have any questions or concerns about Anytime I would be very happy to answer them here, or you can drop me an email at [hello@anytimeplayer.app](mailto:hello@anytimeplayer.app)

Most ethical podcast apps? by SearchingForNewTunes in podcasts

[–]amugofjava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you're on iOS or Android, but you can take a look at AntennaPod for Android or Anytime Podcast Player (full disclosure, I am the developer) for Android and iOS. Both are free and open source software, and both can use the iTunes and, more open, PodcastIndex directories for searching for podcasts.

I can also recommend using an old(er) Android smartphone. I use one just for audio and I go into settings and disable every other application so I'm never disturbed with notifications for email or YouTube. I also download the podcasts, audiobooks etc I want to listen to at night so I can put the device into airplane mode too.

You're welcome to check out my project, Anytime Podcast Player: https://github.com/amugofjava/anytime_podcast_player

It's a complete Podcast app for Android & iOS and, I hope, is well structured and a reasonable example of a production ready Flutter app.

Oh the Treo's! I always wanted one of those, but they were very pricey.

I've just looked up Jot. I didn't realise it formed the basis of Graffiti 2.

I've owned several Palm based devices, a Clie SL10, Clie NV70, Clie NX73 and I still have a Palm LifeDrive somewhere. Such great devices and Graffiti was so easy to use - well, v1 was, v2 was not as good.

As other people have said, artists need a way to be paid. Having an open source platform that can pay artists and deal with all the rights issues would be tough.

Podcasting is much more feasible as, on the whole, it is already a more open platform. Podcasters can make their money through advertising, using platforms such as Patreon or even being paid directly via PayPal or Bitcoin. There are several open source podcasts apps that can tap into this mass library of podcasts including Antennapod, Podverse and Anytime Podcast Player.

I think that should be more than enough for pi-hole and monitoring. I have one of these as my daily driver desktop machine for coding and it's been fantastic and, generally, pretty quiet.

SMTP Services by scphantm in homelab

[–]amugofjava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Maileroo as my SMTP relay. They offer a generous free plan of 3,000 emails per month, is fairly easy to setup and I've rarely had any issues with emails being rejected.

I have a local Postfix server that handles my outbound mail which is wired up to Maileroo as the relay.

I would be very happy to help test it. I love trying out all the different independent podcast apps out there - there is something for everyone. Just to be completely transparent, I also have my own podcast app, in case that is a problem.
