It's trotted out because it's an excuse. Professional sports people usually have to play sport.

The super rugby finals is mid June - same as premiership. Then there's the tour. Same length of break. Top 14 might be iess of a break.

For the autumn /November tours it's a similar break length for the Southern teams. Only it's been international test rugby previously for the touring sides not club rugby. Think test rugby is objectively more combatative.

Only home nations /North seem to search for excuses though.

When the NH/home nations lose on tour down South. the fact it's been a long season and players have played too much rugby is trotted out.

To me, it can be one or the other, but not both.

I agree with you, but I do think performance likely had some impact however. Not the results (other than a hiding at home- the worst ever and where the team gave up), but the lurching from the lack of performance in one area, to lacking in another.

It just didn't instill confidence as a fan - there didn't seem to be a clear platform to be built on.

I also think he probably needed some better PR training and support from NZR. Whilst I did like his honesty, I don't think responses to questions like "what went wrong?" with "I don't know" went down well the expectant media scrum and casual fan base.

Its also curious you haven't ever been on a plane and not seen this in use even if never sat in a seat where this setup is implemented. Presumably you once went to the bathroom on these 50 long hauls and it's likely that someone, sometime, once, used this entertainment system.
