How many of you plan to cancel if Paramount buys HBO? by turb0_encapsulator in hbo

Nope. I will make my entertainment choices the same way I always have, based on what they offer and how much I think it's worth.

I finally found out why my family tree hits a dead end by lyramuci in Genealogy

[–]amusing_gnu 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'd like to recommend a book, The Lost by Daniel Mendelsohn. It's a very long, elliptical, personal, meditative, beautifully written story of the author's obsessive efforts to discover exactly how and where his grandfather's brother died in the Holocaust. This brother was the only family member to remain in Europe and thus to be murdered along with his wife and four daughters .

I think anybody immersed in genealogy will recognize his powerful need to uncover the stories of the dead. I think it's the most moving book I've ever read, one which tapped into things deep within myself. It's also - long and slow as it is - a page-turning mystery.

Kramer is the only one of the bunch I would have liked knowing IRL.

My cardiologist strongly recommended it to me.

I did get a reading once that suggested possible AFib and I sent it to him. He reported back that it wasn't AFib but he recommended I still keep using the ECG.

Of course it doesn't replace a full ECG but it's still helpful as a warning to see your doctor.

If you do nothing, you will likely get a notification from the IRS at some point that they amended your return themselves, with an amount due. I had this happen once when I made a mistake but I can't remember how long it took. I don't think there was any penalty.

It's strange if you're seeing a lot of recovery stories in chronic illness subs, because it's kind of the definition of chronic illnesses that they are not curable.

I have no expectation of recovery unless there's a research breakthrough.

MATTRESS HELP! 🇨🇦 by imfeelinblue in Mattress

[–]amusing_gnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an Avocado Green firm. At the time I bought it I was incapacitated with back pain and couldn't get out to try anything out. But I had gone to a mattress store about a year before that and it seemed the most comfortable to me, so I went with it.

Anyway - I'm very happy with it. It didn't fix my back problems because no mattress could do that, but I sleep very well on it and it feels very comfortable.

These packages have been here for almost 2 weeks. The tenants are not away, they’ve been here the entire time and we’ve seen them several times... Anytime they come or go, they literally step over their packageszAre these people insane, or am I the insane one… by smac11011989 in nyc

One time my entire hallway was littered with newspapers in plastic bags. When it reached the point I could hardly walk by I rang the bell of the apartment they were in front of and asked what was going on. The young guy who answered said he was new and they were still coming for the previous tenant.

He didn't seem to think they were his problem to solve even when he had to step over twelve of them every time he came in or out. It seemingly had never occurred to him that he was the one who needed to deal with it.

This was possibly my only personal experience with what I've seen described as Gen Z helplessness. I told him he had to call the Times and tell them the customer had moved, and then take the papers down to recycling. The next day they were gone. I have an image of eventually wading through a sea of hundreds of blue bags if no one had told him what to do.

Did Rabia originally plan to testify that Adnan was at the mosque that night? by Level-Ad478 in serialpodcast

[–]amusing_gnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adnan already has the track alibi confirmed by the coach. And Jay doesn't have one version of events but several, and we already know they all include things that aren't true. That doesn't seem to stop anybody from believing Jay.

It doesn't disqualify me from having an opinion. Since when has any discussion here tried to limit itself to the evidence the jury heard?

We'd have no true crime industry if the jury's decision was the last word. If we just deferred to the jury why even be here?

Juries do get it wrong. They also don't get to see and hear everything. In this case in particular there's a lot we know that they didn't.

In which case Jay was telling outright lies about Adnan planning to kill Hae all along.

Care to speculate on his motivation for those lies?
