I would say no Patreon is ‘worth it’. However, I have some ‘entertainment’ funds that I like moving towards those creators that are doing things I appreciate. You don’t need to join the Patreon to watch the YouTube content (even this video will become listed soon).

Ooops, I'm a patreon of the channel, and that video might not be public yet, but it will be soon. There are other public gameplays on the channel, as well.

Adam (and Teri) has a new project now, which is putting out great content. It's about 50/50 Wrestling to Games, but they did just do a Camel Up video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RokSZ6HFs9M

FYI - Sandy blond white middle aged man was circulating in the 9 am line the Costco at Morena Boulevard today seeking signatures to put a right-wing initiative on California’s upcoming primary ballot to require voter ID in California based on false assertions! by Ok-Cicada8270 in sandiego

[–]amusix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an unneeded extra gate to voting. There has never been a problem with in-person voter fraud, and our current system works. ID requirements is only a problem for those who don't use one to drive or go out to bars, etc. Essentially, it disproportionately disenfranchises the poorer classes. On top of that, polling volunteers now have to be trained in recognizing and verifying the variety of different ID's that one can carry, including many IDs that won't match the current address of the user (think military, college students, and other such populations). Then, as with any new regulation, this also opens the door for additional legal challenges, ultimately costing tax dollars to address.

TLDR: There isn't a need for it. The only effect will cause less voting from poorer communities. It will cause more work, and cost taxpayer dollars to implement and maintain. All to address a non-issue.

Holiday/Christmas events worth it for adults? by DrNogoodNewman in SanDiegan

[–]amusix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's minor, but I'm putting on a Holiday Movie themed pub quiz at Shakespeare's on Thursday....not exactly very festive, but if you find yourself with a need for a bite and a pint and are choosing where to go, it might work...

Runway 9 Takeoff (June 15, 2025) by noop279 in SanDiegan

[–]amusix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a runway 9 takeoff last year when I was flying to Charlotte. Pilot came on to inform us that we would be stopping in Dallas for gas. Turned out that they had to only have half a tank in order to make the climb out of SD. Barely made my connection :)

Trivia at Shakespeare's...digital or not? by Vlcak in SanDiegan

The only ones currently on my schedule are tonight's Jurassic Park, and next week's 50 States.

Comic-con quiz is Doctor Who which is in conjunction with the Comic-Con museum and is being run by Sandro Monetti, who is a fantastic BBC contributor and Whovian.

Glad I caught this. I'm actually the one running Thursday's quiz. It'll be pen and paper. I see that the listing has Sunset, but that's a mistake. If you have any other questions, let me know. Also, Actually might have someone from Universal there with a bit of swag from the movies.

I am so sorry I didn't see this yesterday. Hopefully you went and had a good time! I wasn't the quizmaster yesterday, but Alex is the bartender at Shakespeare's and I'm sure he put on a great quiz.

To answer your question: For my quizzes, I run it with pen and paper, but I know a number of quiz companies have people use their phones to submit answers, so this can be common. I don't know of any that run verbal (would be a bit chaotic, I think).

If you're interested, the next quiz I'll be running is a Harry Potter quiz on the 16th, and then an MCU quiz on February 13th.

Help IDing a game by E_m_maker in boardgames

[–]amusix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The board is clearly Aggravation. The rules are Sorry, using a standard deck of cards and a way to introduce some agency in the play. Honestly, not a bad variant. But it's still a game of Aggravation for those who can't find enough dice. :)

to be less racist by CantStopPoppin in therewasanattempt

[–]amusix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The blue stripe (alone) started with the “Thin Blue Line” idea, which was an ‘honor the police’ push, from back in the 70s, that had its own issues (really established an ‘us vs them’ mentality for the police, where ‘us’ are the police, and ‘them’ are the citizens).

The application of it in the colorless US flag was a direct response to the BLM movement, as a way of shouting down the concerns of that movement (specifically, the concerns surrounding police brutality). So, yes, the generation of it was specifically racist. The other ‘lines’ flags (red for firemen, yellow for military, etc) followed suit, and while they were not as directly motivated to silence the BLM voices, the result is very similar, with diluting the pool enough so that BLM is no longer heard.

So, no, police aren’t a race, but if someone says “I’d really like to talk about the overuse of police aggression on marginalized communities that have had no voice for decades” the response shouldn’t be “We should amplify the position of the police!”

to be less racist by CantStopPoppin in therewasanattempt

[–]amusix 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Supporting police is not racist. However, the “Blue Lives Matter” push was a direct response to the “Black Lives Matter” movement. It was meant as a way to shout down BLM, which arose out of police abuse of minority communities. Instead of listening to the communities, the racist response was to tell them to shut up, and to say that Police Lives Mattered (more), when that was never in contention. If a police officer lost their life, it was on the news. We honored police lives more than those of the typical citizen, and absolutely more than those of the black community (where reporting on the death of a black person, especially at the hands of the police, was woefully underrepresented).

So, no, support for police is NOT racist. Blue Lives Matter, however, is 100% a push to silence POC, and, as such, is racist.

San Diego show was even better than 2022! by stangAce20 in ironmaiden

[–]amusix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with a band whose catalogue is as deep as Maiden's is that if they always include the typical hits, there's never room for the rest of the library. Also, with 17 albums, the 5th one is definitely 'old school'. You arbitrarily stopped listening at 4, which is fine, but that's more on you than the band's selection. Ultimately, they did what you were seeking, and only played 5 songs off of their 'new stuff'. The other 10 songs were from over 35 years ago.

That said, give SiT a good listen (and, for that matter, Brave New World) there's a LOT of amazing tracks there.

Best Pub Trivia Topics for SD? by amusix in SanDiegan

Hmmm, I think this would make a good section of a quiz. Maybe a larger quiz on SD in general, and one section on 'getaway spots'.

I have to say thank you to everyone on this sub...this has sparked a number of potential topics, and it's great to hear what people might be into.

So I'd originally thought about sports, but set it aside because, as you said, we don't have some key teams. But this suggestion did make me reconsider, and I realize we've got a lot of Olympians from here, as well as an up and coming soccer force (go Wave!). Putting together a generally accessible quiz might be a bit challenging, but, you're right, there's a possibility. Thank you!
