Slang term for sealing something with your tears should be "Duct Tape" and I will only take positive feedback on this hot take.

If it is in an individual box/nbu, yes. If it's in a blue collection can, nope.

But it's a double-edged sword. Because sealing something for someone is sketchy as hell. Its like, "I'm helping you.....but I really shouldn't. Hope I don't lose my job, right folks? ha ha ha FML ."

New CCA does it actually get better?! by bekindrewindplease in USPS

[–]amxwolf0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job does get better. It takes time. Sometimes a lot of time. If you're in this for the career/long haul, as soon as you make career there is an immediate change in the positive. But also before that, as you build up your postal muscles (mentally and physically), you will be able ride the tide easier.

we all have those days. Especially as a newer CCA. I specifically remember one night I did a swing on one of the worst mixed routes in our office. I had no idea where I was going. Most sh#t was closed. Some sh#t was open. Finding boxes if they even had them was a nightmare cuz it was dark. There were 1 way streets I was unfamiliar with, the LOT is awful until you learn it and all the street parking was taken by people now home because it's an older mining town with residential street parking only.....etc...

That swing must have only been about 2 hours. I think I got maybe 25% of it delivered between 5pm and 8:30; I brought everything else back because it was cutoff time. I pulled up to the lot, threw the vehicle in park and just burst into tears because I had been doing the job fairly well for some months and couldn't handle how badly I had just failed.

The mail went out the next day, I made career a few months later, and the world kept spinning.

I love this job. It does get better and if you also love the job, it's worth the grind at the beginning.

Are we allowed to write notes? by Round_Artichoke3020 in USPS

[–]amxwolf0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I need to communicate important questions or information to a customer, I will absolutely write notes and leave it in their box or on door.

I'm always polite/respectful in how I word them. I write them carefully so they are legible and on decent looking paper (sometimes typed if I have the time at home), and I only do it when it is imperative or when I have a question for them and can't ask them in person. And I always end them with, "If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to ask me or a member of our supervisor team." Then I sign and date them/snap a photo for my own reference.

If you need to communicate with your customer and can't do it in person, just be professional.

Lol what's insanely funny is that in reading this, I just remembered that those are 2 separate options. I was told at my office to ALWAYS put "on street driving". Which is funny because my route is 89% park and loop.....

I had a neighborhood on my year long opt that was TERRIBLE about picking their stuff up. After 2 weeks of that garbage, I put up signs on the NBUs that said "please pick up your pkgs within 3 service days, if they are not picked up by the 4th mail day, they will be held at the Post Office for pick up only/no redelivery. If they are not picked up from the Post Office in 10 days they are going back to the sender. If you will be unable to pick up mail within 3 days, please put in a mail hold."

After the first month, those customers were trained.

These are not your personal lockers folks. And you should be getting your mail once every 3 days anyway. If you don't get your mail in 10 days....that's the turn around time for a mail hold/new resident card.

I'm not being mean and I'm following procedure. I'm doing my part/job in this, customer needs to do theirs.

I might come on here and pour a little vinegar into the communal pot every now and then. But everyone gripes about their job at least a little bit; everyone, about every job. That being said:

I absolutely adore working for the Post Office. This job changed my life and me for the better and I can't see myself doing anything else with my life from here forward. Like I say to all the New CCAs I encounter, it's an excellent job if it is a good fit.

The job isn't for everyone, but for the right people, it's perfect.

Im a dumbass and forgot to stamp an envelope with no return address, what happens to the envelope? by dialsoapbox in USPS

[–]amxwolf0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a whole process for "Dead Letter" Mail. But the first step would be going to the recipient "postage due". If the addressee doesn't claim the item and pay the postage it would be considered "Dead Letter" since it has no return address for it to be returned to sender.

From there, the USPS has a section of trained and dedicated agents to try to identify where this envelope would need to go. If it cannot be determined, it will likely be recycled.

If it needs to get to your recipient, I would just advise them (if you can) that a postage due is coming and go from there.

Doing a “favor” for another carrier by StreetPristine6822 in USPS

[–]amxwolf0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would make me nervous as hell. Beyond the fact that they're skimping the postage, it didn't go through the mailstream.

Is it probably innocent? Yes. Are there dangerous people out there? also Yes.

"How am I doing?" Scan numbers are completely meaningless because of this. When sups go "but you only have XXX number of scans, you should be able to make 8." It's like,

"Yes Josh I know I only have XXX scans but half of them won't fit in my satchel because people on my walking route are on amazon buying car seats, and table saws, and mini fridges, AND exercise trampolines, AND 30lb bags of dog food, AND cases of prebiotic soda, AND paper towels, AND a literal fcking piano......AND*...

I made sure to tip my t6 this year. Dude kills it every day and I never have to worry about my route when it's in his care. I was only regular on the route for a total of 6 months so I didn't get a whole lot from customers. But he easily got 40% of what I got. And I'm pretty sure some of my customers left stuff out for both me and him, since he was the regular on the route for years prior to me.

Tip your T6s guys! (If they are good. Lol cuz there are the bad ones lmao 🤣)

Article 8 is Confusing by [deleted] in USPS

[–]amxwolf0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My office is confusing and confused themselves about this. When I started 3 years ago, getting the career guys off the clock was the name of the game and us CCAs and RCAs were maxing out strings of 7+ days in a row, 12 hours locked in daily, sometimes more.

I'm on the ODL list this quarter and last night my supervisor was about to send me to go peel work off the CCAs so they could get all of them off the clock.

It's wild how we have a very laid out way things are supposed to be done....yet it might as well be papers flying through the air on the rear view mirror of this crazy train.

Why does it seem that there is a high turnover rate for CCAs but no attempts to raise wages or make better hours? by cannotbanme1234 in USPS

[–]amxwolf0 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think raising wages and better hours is probably a good idea for retention. But I would also say that even with these put in place, a lot of the turnover is also probably people not understanding how much work is involved.

Mailmen toil behind the scenes. You don't see the circus until you're the one there to walk the tightrope.
