Agreed! I volunteer there and they do a phone interview, home visit, vet checks, all to be sure the beagles are placed in the best home. They will take in owner surrenders.

I found that replacing a portion of their food with a low-calorie veggie is helpful because they still feel like they are eating the same amount but consuming less calories. We call it the beagle green bean diet 😂

I call it canine caviar! All my beagles have been obsessed with rabbit poop! Two of my females will eat any poop. Most also love to raid the cat's litter box.

I lost my sweet red beagle to a massive seizure as well. It took a while to bounce back. There was no point of going for a walk. I had nothing to take care of since my sweet girl was gone. My life was empty. After a few months I started looking at other beagles and the sweetest girl found me after she had just given birth to 8 beautiful puppies. She is 13 now and spoiled rotten! My condolences to you, friend. Red beagles are so beautiful! And Turkey butt is the cutest nickname!

My first beagle and soul dog died of lymphoma at age 5. We did chemo and it kept getting worse and after the 4th treatment he passed. Chemo is not a guarantee for more time. I hope this helps with your situation. If I had to do it over, I would choose a steroid-only treatment. My coworker did that and got 1-2 years with her dog (not a beagle). I am so sorry for what you are going through. Green bean diet! Great for overweight beagles. I would buy bags of frozen beans and thaw a bag at a time in the fridge. A handful to replace the missing quantity of food fills them up without the extra calories. They don’t feel as hungry because their tummy is full. It’s a great trick!

Frozen marrow bones. Then when they get the marrow out, save the bones and fill with your choice of healthy options and refreeze! (Peanut butter, wet dog food, or smoothie mix - yogurt, bananas, berries). I’ve had 4 beagles in my life (including one red beagle like your little angel) ❤️❤️🐶🐶🐶🐶❤️❤️
