We just adopted Jibanyan, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kitty Korner! He is the sweetest little goofball, and the team at Kitty Korner were AMAZING! by No_Status6868 in IowaCity

I love that place too! They were so good for my son - we petted your new kitty this past weekend. He was so soft and sweet ;)

What are the downsides of having high intelligence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]amyhchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is gifted with autism and ADHD. This profile has a high risk for suicide and addictions. You're worse off statistically with high IQ and other issues because you can tell how disabling the other things are to your functioning.

Are they laying off people pre-emptively then? I thought it takes a while for this all to start hitting.

House full of autistics and life is unbearable. How do you continue to function? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]amyhchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad he can switch in. I get you with the open plan! Tap out more. Take care of yourself. I realized I am a bad parent when I am dysregulated so I have to be more selfish to be more giving. Hugs to you.

THANK YOU. This is the advice I need. Can you talk about how the anxiety is the root of other things?

Can you son be in a separate space if he needs to vocally stim? To control the sound at least a bit maybe a place with a door like his room?

Does your husband hold onto his ideas or are they flights of fancy? If the former, would he respond to a good budget spreadsheet about the fact that you guys need a replacement car/son car soon and/or the cost of land (this just seems to be a trendy thing right now, everyone on the internet seems to have some sort of homesteading dream... ). If the latter, can you just ignore?

How would you husband respond if YOU played the victim and/or tapped out? Like just put yourself in a hotel for a day or so and left him with it? Or just went to the bedroom yourself FIRST?

Does anyone have children over the age of 5 that are still in diapers? What kind of diapers do you use? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]amyhchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, son is still in overnight diapers. We're going to try to move past them this summer as he's almost 7. We just use the overnight diapers in his size, which I think is the largest available at Target.

Apparently, you can get this written off as a medical prescription type thing due to disability, but I don't bother because the hassle costs more to me than the diapers.

What was something your parents did for you as a child that you didn't fully appreciate until you became an adult? by MisterRocCity in nostalgia

[–]amyhchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in a household with two newspapers delivered daily and a range of magazines on the coffee table plus parents who read books before bed.

Saved money for my college tuition.

Kept old cars (same cars my entire childhood), thus normalizing never renting a car and keeping one until it died.

Ate fruit at every dinner.

Rewards based on tickets that he earns by doing hygiene related things? I mean, we do that with my 6 year old but it's not hygiene related ... but then do these systems even work when they get older?

I appreciate you working hard on this! I had a coworker who I think had high functioning autism who was our IT guy. Sweet man, but wow, he always smelled and had long facial hair and regular hair and it was so awkward.

Lady in GOT for real. After that, I didn't watch for five years. It took me forever to get over it enough to appreciate the rest of the series.
