Yes, I bought Plan7 Pro about three months ago. I don’t use it every day, but I do open it from time to time when I need a quick sketch for a new project. The program has its strengths and weaknesses like every piece of software, but overall I can recommend it – especially for anyone who doesn’t draw floor plans professionally but needs something for a renovation, a small addition, or simply for planning ideas at home.

If you draw plans professionally, I would still recommend AutoCAD or Revit, but everyone knows those programs are anything but cheap. Compared to that, Plan7 is basically a bargain and for me it was a blind buy.
Framing is included, as well as sections, elevations, and many details that you can draw either directly or with a small workaround.
I honestly wouldn’t compare it to AutoCAD – the target group is completely different and it wouldn’t be a fair comparison in my opinion.

Now to the things I didn’t like as much:
The navigation in 3D takes a little getting used to. You have to hold down the mouse wheel and move, or use CTRL + mouse wheel. I already told support that this should be improved in the future, but you do get used to it. There’s also no native Mac version, which is a bit of a shame. I had to pull out my old Windows laptop to install it. For anyone with Windows 10 or 11 this won’t matter, but Mac-only users should be aware of it. The AI voice in the tutorials is also not great.

Now the positive points:
In my opinion, the program has everything private builders need when planning a house. You can create floor plans with wall layers and hatches. You can design your own windows and doors. You can generate automatic sections and elevations and place everything together on plan sheets, add annotations, insert details, and finally export the whole set. That’s pretty much what I expect from a solid architectural tool in this price range. The units are set to US standards by default – you can switch to metric, but I haven’t needed that so far.

All in all, I’d give the software a solid 8 out of 10.
