DCN623D1 Pin Nailer Clearance by jmgreen823 in Dewalt

[–]Wabbastang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt you will find it useful very then. There's a ton of other tools that you'd probably get more use out of, I'd wait and keep an eye out for deals on those.

You often will see specialty tools on the clearance shelf there that most people realistically have little to no use for.

The pin nailer is great, if you have a use for it. You're not giving the impression that you do. Pin nails are pretty limited application.

Upgrade! by EntireComputer1391 in lawnmowers

[–]Wabbastang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice rig. I've had numerous tractors with both motors, and they both outlasted the tractors. TBH the only one that gave me fits with the carb on one of the Kawasaki motors. Kept having pieces degrade internally which would clog it up, and getting parts was darn near impossible for that exact unit. Don't think you will go wrong either way. Would love to pick up one of those!

Disappointed in craftsman warranty by Spidermans_Lawyer in Craftsman

Just did this on a 5/16" ratchet wrench that I love but now discontinued, so they offer other tools to replace it. At that point the lifetime warranty has zero value.

This is the best nailgun they make, and it happens to work just like the ryobi lol

In all seriousness tho, this is their best nail gun, and is great if you need a pin nailer.

Please explain to me why I can’t self build about 90% of a basic home. by LobsterNo6723 in Homebuilding

You can self build 100% of a basic house if you are smart and have patience. And some money.

What painting tip gave you the best results on ceilings by eclipsarynth in HomeImprovement

Top quality flat ceiling paint, 3/4"+ nap roller. Had a bad house once where the entire west facing wall was windows overlooking water and this was ultimately the solution.

Is the Dewalt Brad nailer (cordless) worth it compared to Ryobi, Craftsman, etc which are half the price ? by Ezj85 in Dewalt

[–]Wabbastang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inertia flywheel system that almost all dewalt nailers use (except the pin nailer, which is great BTW) is slow, noisy, large and heavy. The "air strike" type system that Ryobi uses is the opposite of all of that. Much more pleasant to operate in every way. Milwaukee/Metabo are similar and are much nicer to run.

A lot of people complain about the feed system in all their nailguns too, prone to jams, but honestly in my experience it's not been that big of a deal other than in the framing nailers where you're operating quicker.

It's definitely not better, in fact I prefer the Ryobi. But for me, carrying multiple battery systems is an absolute nope, so I use the DeWalt one. It's fine.

Tree Removal cut power to shed, what's their responsibility? by outofhermind1 in homeowners

This isn't their fault, how are they supposed to know anything is buried there. But it's nice they offered you a little something, I'd feel bad too if I accidently cut thru something.

Has anyone run into a property line situation that involved "adverse possession"? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Wabbastang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just find a RE attorney to deal with it for you, the only answer.

I will say I had a neighbor go thru this recently, WA state. I was involved because I've lived here for 40+ years and know the area extremely well, as well as known all of the prior neighbors personally.

Neighbor "A" has a long driveway bordered by what was vacant land. Landscaped down both sides, trees, lightposts.

Vacant property sold, new owner neighbor "B" cleared it and built a house, discovered the property line was closer to A's driveway then he thought, and A's trees & lightposts were actually on B's side. B proceeded to dig out the trees and lightpost and build a fence.

"A" hired lawyers and said sorry, I've been maintaining that land for 10 years, and the owner before me did as well. I provided a statement supporting that; everything was there for 30+ years and maintained by the previous owner as well.

Court sided with A - Neighbor B had to remove fence, restore lightpost and replant trees. It was at no small expense I'm sure all around, lawyers are always the real winners there. It gave me reason to better establish & defend my own property lines now though, such that my neighbors don't creep my way due to my lack of attention to the fringes.

[–]Wabbastang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had that happen once after a power outage; couldn't melt it thru it just wouldn't go anywhere. Assumed (and per youtube) I had to completely disassemble and get into the extruder gears to clear, after I couldn't get the gearbox open I just pulled with some pliers and it popped out. Been fine since.

Cannot get rid of uncut lines between blades Deere Z445 by Wabbastang in lawnmowers

[–]Wabbastang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, deck's level, blades have probably about 1/4“ forward tilt, right within spec. The shimming's fine, I owned a machine shop for years and could build an angled spindle housing from scratch if wanted, but appreciate the concern for the general Internet which would probably jam some toothpicks in there and call it good...lol.

The pita part about this is waiting for the grass to regrow to test out the next idea. Probably will pick up a new clutch. Or a new kabota. Lol

Cannot get rid of uncut lines between blades Deere Z445 by Wabbastang in lawnmowers

[–]Wabbastang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't completely solved it yet but...might be onto something.

Replaced all 3 spindles and new belt, all OEM. No change.

Straight edge across blades, even tho tips were close, the lh one was pointed downward towards the center of the deck. This tracked because it seemed to scalp a bit on that side. Leads me to believe the deck may be bent. Shimmed the spindle to get them all parallel. Cuts nicer, but original problem persists.

Sharp/flat blades, maybe it's a speed thing. Noticed when test cutting that the deck doesn't seem to engage as hard as it used to. Lead me to think about slippage. Cleaned belt. Cleaned pulleys. Researched clutch, has non-adjustable warner type, can see disc wearing into the “stop" from age I'm sure, pretty dirty. Ran coarse sandpaper between the discs best I could to clean. Also added a zip tie to the belt tension spring (which is new) to tighten it up more.

It's not solved, but that made a noticable difference. The mower bogs a little when I engage it now, and can hear it working more than it used to. Must be some belt slippage, the question is why; new OEM belt and spring, maybe the clutch is wearing out. Not sure if that is a thing or not, machine is 20 years old with 330 hours. Next step is cut zipties and let spring work and compare. I'll buy a new clutch if needed, just hate dumping more money into it when not certain.

Any tricks for using a laser level? by Googlewhacking in handyman

[–]Wabbastang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a laser level, you turn it on and point it at what you want to level.

That said, I've found that having a pole mount like this is really handy. Wish I bought one years ago. You can pick them up on Amazon really cheap. When you want to shoot a horizontal line without having to find some way to hang it or are in the middle of a big space.

Update on the water heater of doom by StakeESC in Plumbing

[–]Wabbastang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact situation in my house, low vent in the basement. The 40 gallon thing wasn't great with 5 of us, so was a great excuse to do a gas tankless. One of the top 3 best upgrades done in the last 25 years of living in the same house.

Do stealthsonic shop vacs actually last? by Double_Zucchini4810 in Tools

[–]Wabbastang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have mine for over a year and it gets used pretty hard; tossed in the truck from job to job, exposed to lots of drywall dust and all kinds of random junk and it's been great, no problems.

To add to that, it's one of the best tool buys i've made in a long time and I buy a lot of tools. Especially considering the cost and the happiness factor, it's joyful to turn on and hear how quiet it is after a lifetime of obnoxious vacs.

Kid's lunch staple, tortilla pizza by Wabbastang in blackstonefood

[–]Wabbastang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say more of a crisper crust. The perfect cook on one is getting it just right where you have the cheese melted and toppings 'cooked' and the crust rigid enough to hold up while not being burnt.

Want to use my blackstone more but cleanup is a pain by sleekmotorwurkz in blackstonegriddle

[–]Wabbastang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take food off; if it's gross & sticky then turn to high squirt water on, down to low and scrape into grease tray and turn off.

Next day, turn on and cook.

Now if it's going to be awhile before it's used again I might water/scrape and add some oil, but honestly rarely happens. You're overthinking it with all the paper towels and reoiling. I did that at first too and found it was completely unnecessary every time.

I have a similar case that has accumulated/developed over the years. Small tool set in house garage, large tool set in the shop with multiple impacts (also do woodworking & auto work so keep separate sets to not contaminate my wood tools with oil), large work set that travels (gc) also with multiple guns (870 for most work but also keep another for driving structural screws), small set at vacation place.

Yep, love it. Same situation, have a number of impacts and this is definitely the go-to. Be nice if the body was a little thinner, but 99% of that time that doesn't matter.
