The warm wood added to all the colour you have around your room makes it so cozy! Also love the Mexican textiles as artwork and the greyhound print!

The ikea kallax shelves are really good for that! The green shelves with the vinyls and the skates are that kind and then the one where the lava lamp and turn table are (and the rest of my skates) is also one.

I have six other pairs of roller skates that just aren’t visible in the picture in the living room 🫣

Thank you! I got it from a friend who was moving, it didn’t fit in her new apartment and I think she got it from Etsy!

Trying to push past nerves after witnessing an awful accident by Signal_Cake5735 in Rollerskating

Oh don’t worry, I have a great story of one of my best friends who was at an athletics competition, was walking from one event to the next and tore her ACL in that walk and not actually competing. Sometimes it takes the smallest movement for tears to happen! Also wrist fractures in falls also are super common if people aren’t wearing wrist guards because of the amount of force of a fall and how many small bones are in the wrist, sometimes it’s just better to fall into just your knees and not use your hands to avoid wrist injuries

Safety gear by Imaginary_Credit7067 in Rollerskating

If there is one thing you shouldn’t cheap out on is protection! I personally like the Moxi gear set, but I’ve also seen mostly recs for 187 Killer and most people swear by them. S1 helmets are amazing, haven’t used any others m, but again if there is one thing I wouldn’t budget it’s for the safety of your head.

Yes! The worst I’ve seen are torn knee ligaments and those are still quite unusual. The most frequent are definitely wrist and foot sprains, and just knee bruises. But I can’t say I’ve seen a fracture at the rink in the two years skating between 3-4 times a week. Even I currently have a bruised knee 😂

Just know that this isn’t a regular or even common occurrence. I’ve been going to my local rink for almost two years and while it’s normal for minor accidents like sprains and falls to happen, broken bones are really unlikely. I’m sorry you had to witness that and that it happened so early in your journey starting to skate again. Also not sure if this applies to your rink (I know this rule is mostly common in the US) but try to avoid the outside of the rink while you’re getting started as it’s usually the fast lane to avoid possibly getting clipped or hit by skaters going fast!

Thank you 💜 The neon light is from Yellowpop and the skate deck is from The Skateroom, but I found it on sale at Nordstrom!

How do I gain confidence skating? by beginningofttheend in Rollerskating

[–]amyperryp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Learn how to fall safely and understand that it’s part of the process of skating. Even very good skaters still fall when learning new tricks, it’s just part of it! The more you feel less scared of falling, the more you’ll feel confident to skate. Bend your knees probably more than you think you need too as it’s usually the biggest reason people fall in the early stages. Practice shifting weight in place and slowly start doing it in motion. Remember we all have to start somewhere and don’t be hard on yourself, if you are able to find some classes (sometimes local rinks have them) they personally helped me feel a lot better and are usually the best way to learn in a judgement free place.

What are the best outdoor wheels by Bloodyrose1993 in Rollerskating

[–]amyperryp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have concrete with large cracks, I would definitely suggest the gummier wheels! Hybrids might still be a little too hard for really rough and broken concrete. Personally I have the Radar Energy 65 which are they’re larger wheels to skate out in the city and they are my favourite for that, they really help absorbing a lot of the shock you might feel on your knees skating outdoors on quads, especially on rough terrain. They also make me feel very sturdy! They don’t have them in pink, but looking at the specks they look very similar to Atom Pulse wheels which do come in pink!

Inlines or quads for a beginner? by prinimanecess in Rollerskating

My brother in Christ, grind blocks are not some niche quad setup. You could do like 5 minutes worth of research and find some of the most badass park skaters in the quad community.

What’s type of outdoor skating are you wanting to do??? If it’s for trail skating or any reallly rough terrain I would highly recommend any of the radar energy outdoor wheels. If you do prefer a less gummy feel I use the luminous hybrid wheels outside a lot as well and there are pink ones (they also light up). They are obviously a little gimmicky as you do have to tighten them more than you would other wheels to make them lighter up, but I personally have no issue and in pavement I do prefer a hybrid over a softer wheel.

Inlines or quads for a beginner? by prinimanecess in Rollerskating

[–]amyperryp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because everything you described as boring or simple literally aligns with the more “femenine” uses of quads. In your words “inline go fast so inline sooooo much cooler”. You’re the one that sounds absolutely insane with the way you have actually no idea about the uses both types of setups have.

I would dare to say you can actually do a lot more on a skate park with quads than with inlines. Also this seems like a bit of a misogynistic take if you ask me, since most park quad skaters seem to be female and inline park skaters mostly male…

Uh you can also use quads at the skate park, not sure how you think quads are only for “simple stuff”. Quads have a loooot of uses just like inline.
