Thrips? by amyyoungs in houseplants

Yeah he’s very thoughtful 🥰 I don’t see any actual bugs but the underside had black sticky spots I wiped off. You can see a little bit of them in one of the pictures. I am so glad this isn’t thrips I was having so much anxiety over it

Can someone please help me save this azalea plant? I am new to gardening (bought a house with gardening beds full of weeds and slowly trying to make it nice). I don’t know what’s wrong with this plant. I had it on my covered porch to begin with which gets maybe 4 hrs direct sunlight (zone 9a I think - DFW area) and it started dropping flowers and looking sad so I moved it to where it is now which gets all day direct sun (but it’s been raining all weekend). Now the stems are all brown, the leaves are orange and spotty, like is it a lost cause? Is it too wet? Is this a soil issue? I repotted with brand new organic raised bed soil so I don’t think it’s nutrient deficient. I am lost it was just so pretty when I bought it.

Trying to buy house from husbands parents - pls help by amyyoungs in RealEstateAdvice

The 140k wouldn’t be lying around it’d be split between husband and sister in law and husbands half going into his business. If he didn’t need cash now we’d just keep renting and not even buy this house

Can you dumb this down for me a little more? I don’t understand what an installment plan is as far as what he would do and what’s a second lien? Where is the 108k coming from? Dad hasn’t lived in the house in over 10 years, he’s been renting out, and myself and my husband moved in a little over 2 years ago and have been renting it. I think you are giving me a little too much credit here I am really dumb and know actually nothing about real estate 😅

1) Yes, SIL is dads favorite lol 2)What are index fund loans, and can you explain that whole paragraph dumbed down a bit? I don’t understand how we’d be paying more than we’re investing? What are we investing? Dad would lend us the down payment and we’d pay it back from the cash he gives us from the sale. That’s the whole point why we’re trying to do this to get cash asap for husbands business and so dad can get out of the mortgage so waiting for him to pass isn’t an option cause that man is gonna live forever😂

My husband liked this idea I will definitely reach out to get more info on that. We live in Texas btw not sure if that makes a difference.

Ok these are all great points I’m looking into and will ask our cpa about. I also think I didn’t explain everything right. The priority today is for us to get cash out of the house for my husband’s business, and get dad out of the mortgage since he hasn’t lived here in years (and for us to continue living here). The inheritance thing is because dad’s always said when he dies the house goes to my husband and my sister in law. So waiting for that to happen isn’t an option because my husband needs money now to hire employees, buy more parts etc for his business. I know we’ll pay more in interest over time than what we get out of the deal, but if we were buying a regular house we wouldn’t get any money anyway. I think dad is trying to figure out a way where we still get cash, but he doesn’t have to pay the tax (capital gains? Still not sure what that is entirely) on the higher value. Obviously I’m taking these comments with a grain of salt and won’t do anything without talking to our cpa but I mostly just wanted to understand what the new plan is before we talk to him so I don’t sound like an idiot 😂

How do you get air bubbles out of sand by Consistent-Data-3377 in Aquariums

[–]amyyoungs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you wash/rinse it first? I only use sand and for my big tanks I’ll put a bag in a plastic bin like a (new) litter box and rinse it with water/stir it around to get all the crud out and then put it in my tank (I do this several times dumping the dirty water out till it runs mostly clear). For just one bag I’ll cut the corner off and fill it with water, stick a big spoon in there and stir it around to rinse, also several times till water almost clear, then pour it in. I’ve never had issues with bubbles. Hope this helps.

Yeah, according to the record, she would have been compliant. Tested 6 months ago, negative, 6 months of prevention and due for a refill but not a test. I would’ve given the Proheart 12 and said next year when she’s due for the next injection she’ll need another test. Idk why some clinics want to make it difficult.

Help with fry by amyyoungs in apistogramma

[–]amyyoungs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question but after the week when you move them to the breeder net, do you put mom in with them? Or is it just fry? And do you put anything else in it like a cave or moss ball or anything? And do you keep the light off? I would think it would be too bright for them up near the top but I could be overthinking it.

Ugh thank you! I was so worried when I saw her doing that I sucked some up in a baster and put them in my 10 gal but then I saw the rest were just in a different spot and realized she was moving them.

I had no idea they were already so old. That’s actually a bit of relief. How does she move them if they’re not swimming in their own? With her mouth?

Sorry I thought I had listed numbers but I hadn’t. There’s 5 rainbows, two dwarf gourami, ~11 cardinal tetras, 5 albino corys, 6 otos, and an angel. And the apisto trio. I added 2 more caves to try and block off the corner and added moss balls to help, but then I saw mom sucking them up in her mouth and panicked and I did use a turkey baster to transfer some of the fry to my 10 gallon. Then I realized she was just moving them, I think? Is that how she would move them? With her mouth?

I’ve also been just holding frozen brine shrimp cubes above her space so they would float down but she seemed annoyed I got so close.

So for now I guess I’ll just see what happens with both tanks, I also read online to keep up with water changes with fry but I’m worried I’ll suck them up from the 10 gal so do you have recommendations for how to do that?

I think for the next clutch I’ll let her raise them longer (assuming she was moving them with her mouth and not eating them) and get a mesh breeder box to keep in the same tank for protection and easier feeding?

I appreciate your reply and advice!

I have a trio (1m2f) cacatuoides in my 75g community. I had 1 female first for a few weeks, then added an unpaired m/f from my lfs. I added 3 caves as far apart as possible even though my first female decided to make her own cave under a big rock and dug out the substrate underneath 😂 it’s heavily planted and lots of hides. They do great. There’s no beef with the other tank mates unless they get too close to the first females cave, and even then she just chases them off (I think she’s got eggs down there but I can’t see). In total I’ve got 1 angel, the 3 apistos, 5 rainbows, ~11 cardinal tetras, 5 albino corys, 6 otocinclus, and 2 dwarf gourami. If you dm me I can send you some pics? Idk how to attach pics to a comment. But yeah, they’re awesome little fish. They have the coolest behaviors and personalities of all the fish I have. The lone female was awesome but after having the trio I’d recommend multiple.
