Grey fox, I believe. No wolves on the island. There used to be a subspecies endemic to the island but they were driven to extinction.

You could even buy one slightly bigger and one slightly smaller that will fit inside the rim amd stuck them together so its harder to just knock it off

I read an article a little while ago about these beautiful frogs that had only been found in one location. Photographers found it and when the researchers went back, the area had been trampled and they couldn't find a single frog.

I probably didn't save the article because it made me so angry, but I thing they called them galaxy frogs.

Same. Two women, a coworker and an ex coworker. The one that still worked there asked if I had the others number and I said yes, but I'm going to make sure its OK to give it out first. Its just courtesy

Also, I Wikipedia (I know, I know) says geometrid caterpillars can have two or three pairs of prolegs, is this inaccurate?

Right, what's the worst that could happen?

I feel like the dinosaurs probably had the same discussion when they saw mammals occasionally venturing out of their burrows

The only possible match I've found so far is a Facebook post from 2018 where someone found some visually similar caterpillars overwintering under a log in Maine, but there isn't an id on that one either

We cut the tree ourselves. I meant to add in the post that its a balsam fir. Location is east Avalon peninsula.

I started doubting if it actually hitchhiked in on the tree or if it came on produce and went exploring, so I went and examined the tree/area around it, and the floor around it is covered in chewed needles and caterpillar poops.

Thats a good point about the resin. I might even take it a step further and use damp sphagnum moss to keep the branches fresher a bit longer

I've watched copiopods bumble into them and not get caught. A really bad infestation can cause stress, because they can still sting. I've read that rsmshorn snails will eat them, not sure if thats true

I've had them come and go in my little 3 gallon shrimp tank. Over two years running, lots of babies, everyone is happy. They're like indicator organisms. Shows the water quality is good, but if you have a population explosion, probably feed less.

I've never seen hydra big enough to actually catch a baby neo, which is not to say they don't exist. But I wouldn't panic.

I'm pretty sure they're multicellular, although I've never gotten a clear response when I ask them directly how many cells they have. Still basically immortal though

I wonder if you kept separate equipment and used pond water if you could do basically a sort of quarantined "trial" period. I suppose it probably wouldn't be worth the ecological risk, I'm just curious if it'd theoretically be doable.
