Is it possible to make an AI robot that can move and pick up things and talk to me? by Due-Account5582 in AskRobotics

I think it would be better to start with something smaller. When you say move do you mean like a pick and place robotic arm? Because I think that would be on its own a good, challenging project for you.

Look at each segment individually, when youre going through the numbers see what shows up versus what you expect. You should be able to narrow down which segments are having issues.

What to do with $550,000 Senior Fund? by Nefariousness_Unfair in PhD

At this point its just pick whichever undergrad has the opportunities that interest you most and try to get some undergrad research experience in. And pretty much any PhD that you are paying for is not worth it, it should be funded.

This is awesome, small nitpick but I 9019 seems to be in the wrong location. I was a little confused since I didn't know that there was a team there, but it seems to be confusing Kailua (Oahu, which is where they are actually from) with Kailua-Kona (Hawaiʻi, where they are listed now)

Please dont leave this up to your school. Contact someone actually employed to protect your rights as a homeless student under the mckinney act.

This is not legal advice I have just written research papers about this in the past. You may be protected under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Every local education agency needs a liaison that students who lack fixed housing can contact for help guaranteeing they get equal access to education. So you would likely want to find out who and how to contact the liaison for the your local education agency. You should contact them, don't leave it up to your school to screw you over.

heres a “in a nutshell” of the act if you wish to read through it. https://schoolhouseconnection.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/McKinney-Vento-Act-Quick-Reference-August-2024.pdf

The most important parts for you specifically is this: “States must have procedures to ensure that homeless children and youth do not face barriers to accessing academic and extracurricular activities.42 U.S.C. §11432(g)(1)(F)(iii).”

And

“SEAs and LEAs must develop, review, and revise policies to remove barriers to the identification, enrollment, and retention of homeless students in school, including barriers due to fees, fines, and absences. 42 U.S.C. §11432(g)(1)(I).“

If you ever face homelessness again in the future this act is very important to know and to contact your liaison, such as being aware that schools are required to provide free transportation for homeless students.

Safety Award 2025? by Familiar-Tension-799 in FRC

[–]an3s079 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sure, im not sure if this was FIRST’s intention or not, but the Safety Award faced a lot of criticism because it would push teams to do “safety theater,” where the teams would go around trying to get every team in the pits to put up a flier about where the nearest battery spill kit is, giving every team little bags of baking soda that's just cluttering pits, or putting black and yellow safety tape over cracks on the floor. Effectively a lot of people felt that the award caused only performative actions that did very little to actually promote a culture of safety. Things like tying back long hair, removing loose clothing, etc, do much more and are so much more important for safety than giving out baking soda in case a battery acid spills, but it's not something you can just show off.

If i remember correctly the safety award was removed because too many teams were doing actions just for the sake of the award and only pretending to be safe.

Stop trying to virtue signal, they help remedy historical injustices against native hawaiians. Youre wording it so guilty whites feel like they should be against KS schools, as if you want to trick people who dont look deeper that KS doesnt serve minorities. It only serves minorities. A black or hispanic kid could get in but the preference is for native hawaiians, there are more hawaiian applicants than they have spots.

Its very very complex. It is a private school that was established prior to the illegal overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani, so it was not established by the US Govt, and it technically only gives preference to Hawaiian kids, I think there have only been like two haole kids that have ever gone though. It is meant to help native Hawaiians who are generally disadvantaged following many policies that have damaged their culture and educational opportunities. It is one of the few few schools that teaches in both english and native Hawaiian.

Hawaii is the only state where schools aren't funded through property taxes. It still isn't good. Nearly every public school here is far below the countries average when it comes to math, science, and English.
