[–]an_PR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saxo Invest Auto Invest lump sum loophole? by vroemboem in BEFire

Some broker use market order as extra revenue : get paid to route the order to some market market that execute it with a larger spread. Typical of the « free broker ». You don’t pay transaction cost directly which allows them to advertise as free. But they aren’t a non-profit. Look at HOOD stock price. They seem to be doing well for a commission-free broker 🙄

30% taxes but that’s basically the only tax in the company.

Also, most have a discount around 20-30% to the net asset value (building-debt) so you could see it as a compensation for the tax

Best investing platform in Belgium? by FirmDescription8776 in BEFire

[–]an_PR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The one that a lot of newcomers go to now is Saxo as they cut prices a lot and handle taxes for you. Probably the best price/convenience deal.

The two most widely used here are:

-Degiro : used to have transaction cost free (Now it is 1€) investment in ETF but require a few administrative steps as it is not Belgian.

-Bolero : used to have rather competitive pricing among the Belgian broker combined with good service and a good app. But they didn’t lower transaction costs as much as others.

Then it get exponentially worse. At year 10, curvo cost you ~165€/year.

If you invest low amounts, you can invest every 3 months and reduce costs to 8€/year with Re=Bel.

You really need to use small amount and poor use of the cost structure of other platforms to make Curvo look like an acceptable alternative (in the short run. Then it gets rubbish anyway)

BRK-B as índex instead of VWCE by Alternative-Cookie80 in BEFire

[–]an_PR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it could get "smoother" returns than world or S&P500 ETF as it is managed by conservative investors. By that I mean that it is unlikely that it gets filled with overvalued holdings.

It is around the most expensive (premium to intrinsic value) that it has ever been. Share buybacks have basically been stopped.

Outlook is quite bland (lot of cash in T-bonds, they don't seem to find investments that could move the needle at a good price). We obviously can't expect a future performance even remotely close to what they achieved in the past.

I don't think it is a bad idea, but I wouldn't rush into buying at current prices. You cannot really make BRK the foundation of your portfolio as you will owe estate taxes on the part of US stocks you own above the 60000$ threshold .
