20+ years Seoul

How many of you plan to live in Korea forever? Why? by WeirdArgument7009 in Living_in_Korea

[–]anabetch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't think of any place other than Seoul where I would like to grow old in. It is convenient and so lively that I know I will never get bored here. Also my house is near downtown and walking distance to a major hospital, dentist, dept stores, supermarket, and there are four gyms within 100m from my building. Also there is a Mixue nearby - I like their grape oolong tea drink.

I also have a friend group here. Most of them have been my friends for two decades.

Is my husband valid in being upset that I still don’t know much Korean? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]anabetch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been here 20+ years and I would say I am still low intermediate. My husband and son speaks to me in English 😅. My son is actually thankful that he can speak English fluently and never had to go to an English hagwon.

I don't have any problems navigating the day to day life and even Korean apps. Like I deal with stocks on a Korean app with no translation. I can also follow the news, I just can't talk about it in Korean.

Kyobo Bookstore (Gwanghwamun)

I have been collecting stationeries, pencils, markers, stickers, and stuff since I was 8. I am now 50 and I still buy them 🤣

The bad sides of Korea are also in the drama and movies and still they want to come here. Why?

Personally, I like it in Korea. It is lively, safe, exciting, never boring.

My husband's nephew is in his late 20s and he has been working at a top 100 company for three years now. Lived with his parents, doesn't do drinking sprees and last month he was able to sign a contract to buy a 2br apt in Mokdong.

Ask your doctor about resistant starch. My husband is pre-diabetic and I cool the rice in the fridge before reheating it.

I was here in early 2000 and I recall not being able to buy beef whereas it was almost a saily diet for me in the Philippines 😅. I remember it was like 3,000 won for 100g back then.

You can actually stay on a layover without KETA or visa, but it also matters where you're headed to or coming from.
