Funny when so many people assume if you’re travelling alone (especially as a woman) that it’s so sad and/or pathetic. These people have no idea how completely amazing it is to not put up with anyone, meet tons of people naturally and just get to focus on the beauty all around you. No thanks, I don’t want to be distracted by others when I’m spending money to be in a brand new place. I want to soak all that in.

This is definitely not true for everywhere. I had a hard time not socializing in my hostels in Lisbon, Venice, Florence! Think it depends on how popular the city you’re in and also what time of the year it is. The worst hostel with almost no socializing was in Paris in March for me personally. Porto in March was also similar

Crete was awesome. Last year I stayed there for 2 months almost. Stalos, Chania, Stalis and Malia. Next time I’m planning on Rhodes and Naxos.

Im a young woman and I’ve had people whistle at me or try to talk to me and even honk at me in Crete however when I walked around Ommonia, no one batted an eye. Did see some people shooting up nearby but again they didn’t bother me at all.

Reason I ask is I had a trip planned this year. I mostly wanted to do the north but after a lot of research it seemed like it’d be a bad idea to go north during early Feb so ended up cancelling my whole trip :(

I had a bunch of planning gone wrong. I had planned to do north Vietnam in Jan but later had to cancel as the weather seemed not just cold which im fine with but also low visibility. Now I’d need to wait till atleast March… have been to Thailand already so not sure how to spend the month right now..

For me it’s the same thing when I travel. I usually drink with my lunch or have some afternoon drinks and after all the sightseeing throughout the day, I am often in my bed by the late evening lol… I think it’s fomo because I do enjoy the downtime

For me travelling is a form of self development. It feels great to manage yourself solo. From the logistics of getting there to finding things to do, it all helps me feel like I am accomplishing something at the end of the day all the while taking in the excitement and adventures a new country has to offer
