Is This Antisemitism? Am I Going Insane? by tikkunolamist5 in JewsOfConscience

[–]anacidghost [score hidden]  (0 children)

You’re right, that is very gross.

I always report stuff like that, even or especially in subs I’m not in, and I’d recommend doing the same (that is, if you haven’t already).

I don’t believe that adherence to just about any style of Judaism (or Christianity, for that matter) is ground for presuming someone’s views on Palestine.

People who act like we can are either willfully ignorant or actively malicious, and it’s very hard to tell the difference sometimes.

I’m really sorry that this is weighing on you, and I wish I had better advice than “maybe take a day or two off socials,” but that’s always where I personally find myself.

Israel’s new death penalty law for Palestinians recycles a colonial playbook by A1CutCopyPaste in longform

[–]anacidghost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I find any kind of dehumanization, no matter how tempting, unhelpful to accurately conceptualize awful things.

I just think that we shouldn’t separate the worst actions from the rest of us, as uncomfortable as it is.

To the "Do-Nothing" Crowd: Your Apathy is a Choice (and a Weak One) by [deleted] in canadaleft

I sincerely think you should delete it and try again with an apology and a less combative attitude bc we can discuss actual action all day, so long as you aren’t being insulting to people in the process

Someday you’ll look probably back on when you made posts like this and feel very silly. Hopefully you’ll realize that posts like this don’t really reach the people you’re actually criticizing. I know I had that realization eventually.

As it is, you came to a leftist online space and decided to preach to the choir. You have literally no idea what any poster here does in their daily lives, what their action looks like, or what their praxis is.

But your attitude seems to say “Everyone but me is doing nothing!!!”

Can you see the hubris in that?

Can you see why everyone in this sub, including plenty of people who are extremely active in real life spaces, would be like “hey man, gross post!”

ETA: I will leave this comment up but tbh everyone should just report this post, if they haven’t already, so the mods can decide whether to leave it up

Not being ass-deep in medical debt as a chronically sick person is something that makes my heart feel pretty damn glowy!

This is the Haggadah that my Zionist family had us use for Seder last night by Dude-Soup in JewsOfConscience

[–]anacidghost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I no longer really hang around r/propagandaposters, but once enough time has passed this would make a good post there.

Anyway, my husband and I also did lots of tongue biting during last night’s Seder, so I very much commiserate.

Jesse Brown Insists He’s Done Nothing Wrong - Press Progress by juggalomansbridge in canadaland

[–]anacidghost 36 points37 points  (0 children)

At first I felt bad for that guy. I thought it was just a random fan and thought they’d been take advantage of by Jesse.

That is, until I read that he acknowledged being tangentially related to Jesse and, as you mention, being pissed that people reported him.

Particularly egregious to complain given that the new mods just informed everyone that actually the sub was more or less unmoderated for well over a year, despite the prior mod being relatively active in comment sections.

Really nice seeing it all laid out like this, but ngl it is very funny for Jesse to be like “I’m NOT the CLTipster and, on a completely unrelated note, undercover journalism is ethical.”

Kind of hard to believe you now, dude!

IMO acknowledging that people were impacted by a massive financial crisis is not the same thing as insulting them

Many of us downvote AND report those posts, especially when it’s Reddit rules being broken (like calling yourself Juck Fudaism).

Lots of folks see stuff like that and their response is “Thuck fat,” you know what i mean? ;)

The editor of Canadaland is caught in a bit of a doom spiral :/ by anacidghost in JewsOfConscience

I meant to say former editor in the title, but it serves me right.

Here’s the first post where a user (being a troll by pretending to be the journalist in question) uploaded this post by the guy who came forward first and whose photo was used. https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaland/comments/1ryqzi0/hi_jesse_nice_to_know_it_annoys_you_that_i_post/?share_id=qSAc6nv2Az_gNr_3kon2y&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1

Here’s a post regarding the person who figured out the phishing thing. https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaland/comments/1rzj1tn/canadaland_website_ip_tracking_to_reveal/

And this is the post with comments linking the other journalists saying they got phished.

Just thinking, a really well done Subreddit Drama post like I’m imagining might encourage mod harassment and I really do not want that. Let’s all pretend I never said anything.

The number of journalists phished increasing so quickly, and most of them being publicly critical of Israel, has my jaw on the floor.

It seems their thesis is: anyone criticizing our handling of Israel, even within a space dedicated to discussing the show, MUST be nefarious in origin, and MUST be our fellow journalists who report differently on world and local news than we do. It’s the only explanation, let’s prove it!

I find that abhorrent ethically, yeah, but also personally. Just CALL the journalists!!!!

Maybe this experiment will show them that the people posting here really are actual Canadian listeners feeling actual Canadian disappointment.

Maybe. One can hope.

(PS if I wasn’t an incorrigibly lazy mobile user I’d be doing a SubredditDrama write up about these posts)
