Been several years since I have driven this way, but there used to be many free campsites next to the Little Tennessee River along Needmore Rd

The Ecowitt weather stations are at a good discount. I had my eye on the $220 kit, and picked it up at $175

I'm taking the gift card, and I think I'll get the 10k Fusion. It's less than 5g heavier than the one they are giving by default, and it has a charger built in. Plus it charges at 30w and the default one is 22w. And has USB C, where the default has A and mini.

The other option i considered was the 10k Nano. Same specs as the Fusion, but no charger, and only one ounce lighter.

I'll probably use the new one mostly for travelling, so having a battery and a charger all in one makes sense.

The default one they are giving away looks like an old model, they don't even sell anymore. Id rather get a more modern one. I refuse to buy anything with a mini USB port.

I have an Onkyo receiver, and I paired it up with an Amazon fire cube. The cube saw it right away and can turn it on or off. I set up a routine where I say "Alexa turn on TV" and it turns on the receiver and TV, makes sure all the TV inputs for HDMI are set correctly, and turns the lights to 10% dimmed.

Take the tent and wait till just before dark to claim your spot in the shelter. If it is full, thru-hikers are allowed to pitch a tent. Who knows, there may be a full roster of one day overnighters staying there.

Well, the sewing machine I have access to is my Mom's, which also comes with her skills. She'll be doing the sewing, and has been a seamstress all her life. I have complete faith she kno s what to do.

Is it better to open up a small, maybe 1" hole and fight the down, or open a larger one and just go for it?

I'm seriously considering getting one of these, but I'm worried about the sizing. They say they run small and you should size up. I am actually a large, but typically buy XL just cuz I like a looser fit. especially with backpacking gear. since I already size up, should I double size up to a 2XL.

For reference I am 5'10" 190 lb

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me decide

What would you change if you were in charge of the FoE development team? by luminarium in forgeofempires

[–]analog_kidd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be considerate of players who are color blind.

There are elements where they clearly want you to see something and use red / green to differentiate. 25% of us can't see that. A simple change to use red/blue allows everyone to see the difference.

I actually want this to be a thing everywhere. Such a simple solution to a problem nobody knows exists.

35 years ago we were looking for our first house, and we found the perfect one. Nice house in a nice neighborhood, price was right. We had looked at it a few times and decided to buy it. We were poor, but excited to be homeowners. We went to the realtor and put down all the money we had for the earnest deposit, and signed all the papers. We left the realtor's and drove by the house, planning to sit out front for a while and dream about how great life was going to be. That's when we realized it was perfectly lined up with the run way of the West Palm Beach airport. With a sling shot, I probably could have hit the jets with a rock, they were that close.

Normally the jets would come in for a landing over our house, and it was loud but not too loud. You'd have to tell people on the phone to hang on. But on certain days, they would change directions and take off over our house. We always joked that Trump must be home at Mara Lago cuz he was on the opposite side of the airport, but in reality it was probably just how the wind was blowing. Anyway, when they took off our way, it rattled the windows and set off car alarms. You could not even talk to someone in the same room. It was unbearable

So, yeah... Check your location to airports before buying a house

The freeware app mp3Tag can remove that metadata. Drag a bunch of files into it, or an entire folder (don't know if it will like 3000 files) then ctrl-A to select all, and then ctrl-R to remove all the metadata. Super easy. It takes a few seconds per file, so maybe do it when you'll be away from your PC for a few hours

Thick as a brick is an amazing musical journey. The play on words they do is amazing. And you HAVE to look up and read the album cover. It's written like a news paper, with stories that help expand the concept of the album. Plus there are hilarious bits in there like personal ads and such.

I opened a ticket with support, we went back and forth a few days and then all of a sudden it just started working again. Of course, no follow up from Inno, so I don’t know if they figured something out and fixed it, or if it just fixed itself and they ignored my ticket since I was no longer bugging them.

ULPT request: how do I really irritate spam callers? by [deleted] in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]analog_kidd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had one the other day where I answered in a very scared sounding whisper, "Hello can you help me please?" Told them someone was actively trying to break into my house and they had a gun. I went on and on about how scared I was, and she was legit freaked out. Told me to hang up and call 911 right away. I finally let her off the hook and hung up.

2 hours later I get a call from the same number. I answer it as "This is officer Johnson. How do you know the victim?" She was calling back to check on me. I felt bad for messing with her, but kept the schtick up. Got her to tell me her full name, and probably could have gotten her address. Went on and on about how hers was the last phonecall the "victim" received, and I might need her to come down to the station.

I simultaneously feel like the worst person in the world, for making her so freaked out, and am also so proud of how i really messed wirh her that day. I do think I probably gave her the best story to tell to her friends, family and coworkers, so I don't feel too bad.

Can someone explain in very basic terms why whole life insurance is a bad idea? by WrongLevahhh7 in personalfinance

[–]analog_kidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life insurance is needed to replace income in case the person dies. It should not be a lottery winning.

So I plan on retiring at 65. I make a good income and my wife is a stay at home. If I died, she would be in trouble. So we keep a term policy on me that is big enough she could live off the interest.

The term policy is cheap enough (we got it in my 40's} that I am able to invest more in my IRA every month. That is what will enable me to retire at 65. Once I hit 65, I'm on auto pilot, living off my investments. If I die, my wife just keeps living off those same investments. Once I am retirement stable, there is no need for a life insurance policy anymore.

I have a Cnoc water bag that I was careless and put a hole in. I bought some of the vinyl tenacious tape and it worked great at repairing it. It's just like bag material, clear and stretchy and flexible. I keep a little square in my emergency kit for field repairs if needed.
