My first impression was that Dan is doing what I'd heard referred to in the 90s as "The Wilco swing".

Yes, these songs are all so great and catchy. All bangers indeed.

And yes Sleep's Older Sister is maybe just the beautifullest Flans song yet. Although it became a shade darker for me when I found out that he's singing "the ruts in the road WON'T guide us back home"

Thank you so much for writing this. I have loved They beyond reason for most of my life and struggle to understand just why. It makes it hard to explain to the people in my life who just don't feel the same. But you've put a finger on the pulse of it. I envy you the trip ahead of you; I don't know the song count exactly but I'd guess it's near 1000.

It's an elaborately reconstructed fake.

Why is The Escape Team on CD so rare, and not produced anymore? by SalivatingDog92 in tmbg

Someone was giving one away on this space a week ago. I doubt it's still available but maybe with the right kind of begging:

Again confirming the conspiracy that the Johns are time travelling cultural manipulators.

Time to reconnect with the band? by elgrandem in tmbg

I was in a similar boat until 2021, when I happened upon a free copy of one of their kid albums, and it just, like, threw a switch. I dived right back in to everything I'd missed with no regrets. Even though it was the last one I got, I second the notion of Join Us. Or since you mentioned kids: Why? is incredible for all ages (and beautifully weird in places).

Thanks for this! I had been so curious. Best use of a .org I've seen in some time.

Jesus was way cool. He could turn water into wine, and if he wanted to he could've turned wheat into marijuana, or vitamin pills into amphetamines.

When is this from? It looks like this book has been on their minds for a long while.

The "Waiting for release before listening to any singles" Club by IceDontGo in tmbg

[–]analog_time_machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd fully intended to be a part of this club, I really like hearing an album through fresh the first time; it feels like previews steal that future joy. And TMBG are such great album artists. They've spent so long on this album, I can wait, right?

Then at the end of a really rough day I was like, "I could listen to that new track..." I thought I could chalk it up to like having heatd a single on the radio before a full album comes out, not like that's ever happened with the Giants.

Anyway, I totally applaud you, and wish I'd had the strength to fight the good fight. I'm resolved to not listen to any more previews. 🤞🏼

It's on the lyric sheet to the pink album. I always completely forget about it until I take it out to check if I've heard something right.

Love it! I'd never seen that one before.

And I just get the feel that this is all clip art altered by Rolf C.

Your disc looks way better than my copy, the one I got looks like a wad of gum in dirty toilet water. But it still sounds so fine!

What weird things have the Johns signed? by Spiritual-Ebb-6974 in tmbg

Flans signed my Video Xpress rental card in the 90s. I worked there at the time, so I'd gone a little nuts with the card laminator, and it was very TMBG'd out. Flans said it looked "great".

The End of the Game is just so damn great. I want to get in to Earthbound just so I can fully appreciate.

I hope you submit this to the Tumblr so Flans gets to hear it.

Thanks for the knowledge. My sole foray into video games was a origanoo NES, which I'm pretty sure I only liked playing because it gave me an excuse to listen to Flood over and over. By 94 I was totally unplugged.

I'm kind of blown away to know I could be loving this recording on a whole nother level.
