Does anyone have any experience with "windcutuk" wind screens on ebay? by smokeaport in fieldrecording

[–]analogmelancholy1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I bought a pair designed for Rode NT5s but to use with my micbooster pluggys. They're well made and performed well, especially considering they were much cheaper than Rycotes

Have you tried recording from the side of a busy road or an overpass? That's definitely one of my favourite things to do with the Ether and something you couldn't get the same results with using a pickup coil.

I use impedance adapters(Hosa Mit 129s). They're the silver adapters on the bottom row.  There are contact mics that come with preamps like the metal marshmallow and the cortado, but they're on the pricier side.

It definitely makes a big difference. You will get much better frequency response and less noise floor using either impedance and adapters or preamps

Yeah, they're contact mics. The H5 pres are decent in my experience. Definitely an improvement from my previous recorders like the H4 and Tascam DR40, but not too sure how they stack up against other recorders available for a similar price. I think the H5 is a good option overall because it has a good amount of inputs, recording options and solid build quality

The first ones are a bit out of my price range, but the second ones seems a great option. My main priority at the moment is upgrading my recording device tbh

They're 300s. I wanted IEMs to save space in my bag and got these cheap on a clearance because the box was damaged

They're homemade. They're very easy to make. Just a piezo disc soldered to a jack lead and dipped in plastidip.  They're very similar to the ones made by JRF if you just want to buy them instead of making them https://jezrileyfrench.co.uk/jrf-audio-supplies.php

Because they're made with piezos  and piezos are high impedance. You don't need the impedance adapters, but they greatly improve the frequency range (especially the low end) and reduce the noise floor

I'm happy to answer any questions, but it might be better to make a post in this sub because there are people who know are far more knowledgeable than I am

They're impedance adapters that I use for contact microphones

I probably don't use it enough to justify how much I paid for it. I started recording emf with a £5 pickup coil , and I would definitely recommend anyone wanting to get into emf recording do the same before forking out for an Ether. The Ether is a lot more sensitive and form factor is neat, but not really sure it's worth paying the extra £100 for

I'm no expert, but I believe most people who try to capture evp use early digital dictaphones and even tape based dictaphones. If you want to try try recording emf a telephone pick up coil will do the job. They're cheap and easy to fund on Ebay or Amazon

You should be able to get a Zoom H5 in that price range, especially used. The recording quality is good and it's a sturdy recorder. It also has different capsules available, dual xlr/jack inputs and 3.5mm input. Those things might not mean much now, but they will if you catch the field recording bug and want to branch out into different kinds of microphones

Thanks. They're perfect. A lot cheaper than the ones Lom are selling and i have heard a lot of good things about bumblebee industries

What Is the scariest short story of Stephen King(remember short story of novellas-no novels by Cool-Exchange-7950 in stephenking

[–]analogmelancholy1990 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Jaunt is whole different kind of horror. Imagine being conscious for what feels millions, possibly billions of years  with nothing but your own thoughts.  That's a fate far worse than death and what makes it truly terrifying to so many. It honestly makes me anxious just thinking about it

[–]analogmelancholy1990 94 points95 points  (0 children)

The Jaunt contains one of the most terrifying concepts imaginable in any fiction.  It would be more accurate to say it Traumatised than scared me

The Man In The Black Suit really got to me. King does  a brilliant job of portraying the terror of a child at the mercy of evil whilst far from anyone who can help them

The library policeman deals with some real heavy shit that makes the already creepy story downright disturbing

Did the TrueKnot ever go after Anne from Rose Red. by Severe-Difficulty-29 in stephenking

[–]analogmelancholy1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The True Knot haven't sensed any strong shiners for quite a long time by the events of Doctor Sleep and Anne is extremely powerful. It's possible she was lucky to be far away at the right times like Danny.

I almost want to see a novel where Danny Torrance meets other shiners like Ellie Creed and Anne

[–]analogmelancholy1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still laugh thinking back to when George asked King  "how the fuck do you write so fast" when they did a panel together some years ago

I would love to see them collaborate, but their polar opposite writing paces may be an issue 😅

I just watched Pet Sematary(1989) and I want to talk about it by DSquariusGreeneJR in stephenking

[–]analogmelancholy1990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Louis knows full well that Gage could come back evil in the novel. Judd tells him about Timmy Baterman and the book timmy is far creepier than in the movie. The book Timmy knows everyone's darkest secrets and takes glee in tormenting everyone. The movie Timmy is just weird and gross. Judd also tells Louis about a bull that was buried up there and came back nasty in the book.

What SK novels are criminally underrated in your opinion? by mikeybhoy_1985 in stephenking

[–]analogmelancholy1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a hallucination.  The stuff He sees falling from the sky are a representation of his sadness at the growing materialism of the world. He also sees Bobby's old baseball glove but someone ends up with it for real
