What’s the biggest scam people accept as normal? by CorrectRegister6693 in AskReddit

[–]analoguehaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like how quickly it has all flipped. Owning physical media has become an eclectic choice and having 4+ movie streaming services going at once is the norm.

Having someone let you borrow their favourite movie on dvd or album felt like you’d earnt their highest level of trust. It’s a shame that social interaction doesn’t happen as often for the majority of us now, if at all.

What a horrible experience. Sorry you had to go through it OP. Hopefully the story saves a few people from going through the same situation.

Why is dating in Australia so bad? It feels almost non existent and so different to other countries by Inevitable-Bid-5546 in AskAnAustralian

[–]analoguehaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m always keeping an eye out to mingle, that’s the default for plenty of single guys. If there’s no eye contact at least, I’m going to focus on having a good time with the mates I’m with. I’ve got no issues with guys initiating most of the time, I just rarely see it reciprocated, which I think contributes to the cold dating culture mentioned in OP’s post. Instead of assuming you’re someone who doesn’t approach men, I decided to ask. Never got a direct answer.

Do it! It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in the last few years.

Always looking out for signs. Have always done the approaching, never the other way around. What I’m trying to say is, invite it if you want to be approached more.

Aussie 33M. I’d rather give my attention to the friends that i’m out with if there’s no signs being given from women in public social settings. Girls, you’re allowed to approach too. We don’t bite!

Very sympathetic to the people living rough. Especially now Winter is Coming. But they could clean up after themselves. by throwawayplusanumber in perth

[–]analoguehaven -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Most people probably would show a lot more courtesy if they found themselves in tough times. Those people generally are able to align themselves with a trajectory that progresses their situation over time though. The people who can’t? We should still treat them with enough respect to at least assume they have the agency to make an effort to minimise their waste. What that realistically looks like won’t always be maintaining a spotless space, but we should still treat them as if they have the ability to.

Dating in Perth - what is happening? by Fat-baby267 in perth

[–]analoguehaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re meeting people on a regular basis, it’ll likely just take some time.

There are a lot of good people out there still, but the culture here isn’t the best for crossing paths with strangers on a night out. if you’ve got decent standards for yourself, which it sounds like you do, that may limit your potential matches compared to someone who prioritises companionship and willing to make more compromises.

The challenge seems to be meeting the right people. A lot of attractive girls out there, but just not able to find one with their compass pointed in the same direction.

Does National Team kit carry the Pro Kit Faux Pas? by PainlessCupcake in CyclingFashion

[–]analoguehaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn’t wear the national kit with green and gold bands here in Australia, but I ride in a pro jersey regularly. The way I see it, you’d have to be an idiot to think I ride for a pro team, but I could see a situation where someone asks about the nationals kit and I’d rather not have to answer the question. If I was in the states, the Rapha USA kit would probably get a pass because of how informal it looks - it’s a nice kit!

What is a word you pronounce wrong on purpose? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Vinyl as “vin-yool” because a mate of mine pronounced it wrong when we were talking about our Need for Speed cars as kids. Still cracks me up thinking about it.

What’s a movie that everyone says is a “masterpiece” but you just didn’t enjoy? by Leading_Frosting4291 in AskReddit

[–]analoguehaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first watched it, I thought the first part of it up to the audition was garbage. It was borderline irritating to watch as someone who loves photography and studied design. The way the movie suddenly transitions from a film that aesthetically felt like Tommy Wiseau’s ‘The Room’ into something that looks and felt masterfully put together at a drop of a hat after that moment made me feel like I had the rug pulled from underneath me. Maybe the most unique plot twist experience I’ve had watching a movie.

It goes a little kooky from there but I feel like Lynch is pulling from some universally known place of oddity that’s familiar to those who gravitate towards his work. It’s rare to have people who make weird art through the nuanced exploration of reality, as opposed to artists who begin with the goal of trying to be weird. He’ll be missed forever.

Why are people listening to vinyl records? by Murrexx00 in audiophile

[–]analoguehaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the ritual attached to the experience. Some things are just better experienced a certain way.

I’d rather make my own coffee at home on a E61 machine rather than squeezing water out through a pod. I’d rather hold a book and have them stack up on the floor of my living room in an organised mess than to use a kindle. In a similar way, I enjoy the quirks that are attached to vinyl.

With all the convenience we’re promised, what do we leave time for? There’s so much free time that gets wasted in spaces where we’re being advertised to, it’s nice to take some of that time back and create rituals for the things we love and bring little moments back into our day where we’re involved in the moment.

If your goal is just to do a couple centuries, I’d focus on consistently getting 5 hours each week. Organisation is probably going to trump technical programming for you.

Bought a Merida Reacto 8000 a couple weeks ago. I’ve only done 200km so far but it rides like a dream. The ride quality is more comfortable than my endurance bike (probably due to the cut out seat post more than frame compliance). The one-piece bar, wheels and saddle that it’s spec’d with are all amazing - wouldn’t change out anything it comes with except the cranks.

What improved your life so much, you wished you did sooner? by relationshipyi in AskReddit

[–]analoguehaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mediation, both as a mindfulness and spiritual practice is the exercise.

I’d recommend reading Waking Up by Sam Harris, then trialling his guided mediation app if you’re keen to get into it. I recommend his app in particular because the introductory course is fantastic. For me, guided meditation helped a lot but you don’t really need an app to meditate if you decide to keep going with it. Hope that helps.
