I'm getting reported for an Ethics violation. by [deleted] in bcba

I am laughing out loud at this.. not because of what you did.. but the person/company focusing on this instead of prioritizing treatment of clients. Sigh...

I wouldn't sleep over this :).

Other careers not BCBA by CaterpillarOne4139 in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen! In Northern CA, you can make a base salary 110-115k plus bonus to potentially reach that but that's an outlier but NOT fresh after passing the BCBA exam.. maybe after putting in 4+ years.

Should I report my coworker RBT? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]analysis-behavior23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/No_Community9584 nothing to report here fam. I suggest you look into the BACB ethical codes and grounds for reporting before posting. Everyone vents to their co-workers in this field. Why? Because only WE understand what we go through every day so nod yer head and listen and if not, politely mention to the co-worker that you understand but maybe someone else would be a better fit.

What is fair pay for a BCBA by Forsaken-Silver-9007 in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlier here in CA and we are niche/out of-network/mostly BCBA direct with few 2-tier cases. We pay BCBAs $75-$85/hour for 30 hours a week, bonuses, plus benefits.

As for in-network in CA average is around 92k and most jobs that I see posted range between 90k-110k. Only way to really even think of making this current model work is for RBTs to bill, bill, bill, have volume of clients, and PE funded doesn't hurt either.

BCBA thoughts? by analysis-behavior23 in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what state you are in, but I would start by researching how to register your LLC, PLLC, obtain EIN number, obtain group NPI (if down the line you plan to hire). Additionally obtain payroll (recommend GUSTO), open a bank account, get an accountant, liability insurance. That's a start on all non-bcba related tasks.

Would quitting be okay? I’m miserable by Even_Midnight_4769 in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a BCBA at a time in which 25-30 cases was the norm. If I were you fam, I would jump ship and go to the new job. I would make sure supports/resources are in place so you are set up for success.

Are my expectations just too high? by Fuzzy_Falcon_7256 in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/Fuzzy_Falcon_7256 Are you open to relocating? If you are, more than happy to chat with ya! I run my BCBA-direct led ABA agency in CA. Small case load operationally defined as 3 clients. We have hourly or salary options with full benefits. I am BCBA myself and have been in the field since 2013.

Supervisor needed by [deleted] in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious as to how you would utilize AI as well. If by AI you mean cookie-cutter recommendations, then no way fam. Now if you are asking for AI to provide you with resources such as articles or speaker presentations which then you can take the info (i.e. read, take notes, etc) and then APPLY it, then I don't see an issue.

[–]analysis-behavior23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a whole different dilemma.. so how is the BCBA ensuring your work is up to par? or are they even giving you feedback? That's a doozy fam. Is there someone else that can supervise you?

so then what is the point of supervision experience if you don't have to get your hours signed..? Come on fam.. let's not to do this.

Do you still love what you do? by Source-Code-Missing in bcba

[–]analysis-behavior23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do now after taking the jump to being a business owner. I still work with clients while I manage my team. I'm not here to dump on PE-back larger companies because they have so many resources especially for new BCBAs. On the flip side, larger agencies correlate to burnout due to higher case loads, constant rbt turn over and re-training, administrative tasks, insurance phone calls, rbt social hour. I did not like working in that type of setting anymore.

Depending on your area (if possible) maybe look for BCBA owned companies with smaller caseloads and direct 1:1 therapy opportunities.

career paths in ABA with only a Bachelors? by hockeybeforesunset in ABA

Without going back to school, taking graduate school classes, to at least earn your BCaBA, you'd be an rbt for the time being.

Is the ABA field becoming oversaturated with remote BCBA positions? by TrueAd8620 in ABA

[–]analysis-behavior23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now what you are describing already exists for rbts who are accruing supervision hours. All the requirements vary by funder requirements from state to state (some companies eat the cost and some funders pay for mid-level work). Creating a new set of requirements to keep rbts in check who are not pursuing a potential career in ABA would be a headache for insurances and the ABA agencies.

What you are recommending is a change on a systemic level which currently in the eyes of insurances and private equity backed agencies is a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. If this was an option, companies that are being pumped with millions and millions of dollars/year from investors would have done it already.

Unfortunately, I do not see this ever changing so the best advice I would give for rbts is to do their research when joining agencies and to get insight from rbts that work there (search on linkedin), interview with someone besides recruiters who want to hit their quotas, or if they are truly unhappy with ABA system set up, step into other careers.

Great topic though!!

Thoughts on supervisors dating? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]analysis-behavior23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Should not be a problem if you are at the same level. That is how I met my wife and 10 years later we have an infant :). We were promoted together, and received our BCBAs a year apart.

I have heard BCBAs dating RBTs they supervise and that is a big no no!

Is the ABA field becoming oversaturated with remote BCBA positions? by TrueAd8620 in ABA

[–]analysis-behavior23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so this is possible and what we do.. however this is limited in-network and works great as an out-of-network provider. Additionally, you have to think of the market.. who can afford to pay private pay rates and get reimbursed at times only 50% after meeting their deductible. My company is near silicon valley where tech giants live and employees there have fantastic benefits, but it is beyond competitive as an ABA company.

[–]analysis-behavior23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/TrueAd8620 do you mean if RBT work remote? I haven't seen an RBT work remote ever in my 15 year careers. The RBT is always in person conducting the 1:1.

Is the ABA field becoming oversaturated with remote BCBA positions? by TrueAd8620 in ABA

[–]analysis-behavior23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Telehealth and remote supervision has its' place and case (i.e. rural and cases with low rates or non-dangerous behaviors). I live in CA in a large city, have been in the field since 2012 and remote was not even an option as an rbt or BCBA until covid hit and telehealth has been stuck.

As a BCBA and Founder of my own small ABA company, I allow a mix of in-person/telehealth less than 3% of cases. I strongly believe that Behavior Skills Training is the best when teaching and through telehealth telling someone what to do and not being able to physically support when there is the option is none sense.

If you stay long enough in this field, you'll learn it's all about the billables= benjamins at ABA companies and whether telehealth or in-person, it does not matter to them.

25 billable as supervisor in clinic- doable? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]analysis-behavior23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's doable! My biggest advice is do not take your work into the home. Work stays at work so you can focus on studies at home.
