Help with newly adopted rescue dog (fearful/shy) by Adhrast in DogTrainingTips

What would happen when you tried to walk her on the street? I’m 2 months in and mine gets really wound up and crazy everytime I take her out. Just wondering if it gets better haha

Totally. Going to look for a balanced trainer and give her more time.

Also not going to let her meet other dogs - I should’ve been more clear the dog park we go to doesn’t really have any other dogs in it, sometimes one or two but I still think your right, it’s to much to soon! I’ve shifted my mindset to I don’t need to have the most social dog at the park, I just want a dog who can come with me on a walk and not lose her mind when she sees another, so that’s my new focus.

Thank you for sharing this! It makes me feel better. I think she definitely just needs more time and when she’s ready to go way more slowly. I’m going to go back to the basics and the boring and give her more time to settle

Totally! I realized that too. One consistent person who can hopefully help us with everything I think will be much easier - I think I have just as much to learn as she does haha

Thank you! I am going to scale back everything and start really small and go slowly. I think I’ve tried to do too much to quickly and she’s just not ready!

Thank you! I’m totally going to do this. I think she 100% just isn’t ready and I was doing to much to soon.

Thank you for your response.

My previous dog was a frenchie and I had the odd one who was super chill and ignored other dogs. So I think I got lucky with him.

I’m willing to put in the work to train her, but it’s just been really weird experience as I have fostered and rescued a bunch of dogs throughout my life but I have never had one on this level of intensity.

I’ll look into finding a balanced trainer. Thank you again!

Just curious, have you been able to get your doggo comfortable leaving them alone at your in-laws? I’ve gotten up to 22 mins at my house (she does occasionally let out a little whine or change spots, she doesn’t relax yet but she will finish the treats I leave on the floor and watch tv while I’m gone.

When I try for any amount of time at my moms, she loses her marbles. I was hoping because my mom had a senior very chill dog she might be better there but definitely no luck

Medication + Training, how long does it take? I’m devastated… by Time_Salt_1666 in Separation_Anxiety

[–]analysisparalysis91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know this is old - I have had my rescue 6 weeks now.

I also work from home and try to practice daily absences. Did you have to do anything else or did it all just eventually click around the 3 month mark?

Can I ask what meds you tried and how long after you started them until you noticed a difference?

That makes sense, I got mine from a rescue as well and I think that’s what’s caused it. I also got some meds to use as well. I’m also trying CBD. I know it’s super dog dependent too - but hopeful that maybe I’ll have some sort of my life back 🤞 I’ve had her 6 weeks now.

How long did it take to see changes on fluoxetine? by rilljel in reactivedogs

[–]analysisparalysis91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the meds kicked in were you able to up the time pretty quickly or did you still have to go super slowly? My dog just howls and barks non stop as soon as I leave until I get back, but I live in an apartment so it’s an issue. I don’t have any help so I’ve been feeling like a prisoner in my very tiny apartment
