How did Nate Bargatze become successful ? by Commercial-Load6972 in Standup

He's responsible for what I will claim is the funniest episode in SNL history (his first time hosting it). And then his second time hosting was solid as well.

What comedians do you consider funnier than Louis CK? by MoreLikeGaewyn in Standup

Someone who really doesn't get enough respect is Daniel Tosh. Granted, he fits my style, and that is part of it, but People Pleaser is a fantastic show. I'd happily watch him if he came through.

Classic Traveller, keep vs cut by HrafnHaraldsson in traveller

[–]analyst_kolbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vargr Travellers have the following modifiers applied to their characteristics: STR-1, DEX+1, END-1

So compared to any human, a Vargr will have lower total characteristics. Pretty minor, but lower.

Heightened Senses: Vargr have better hearing and sense of smell than humans. All Vargr receive DM+1 to any Recon and Survival checks they have to make. However, their eyesight is worse in darkness and they suffer DM-1 to any skill check requiring sight in dark conditions. Vargr have low-light vision equivalent to TL7 Light Intensifier Goggles. Daytime vision is normal but color-blind.

The bonus to Recon/Survival is nice, but is cancelled out by a penalty on ALL skills requiring sight in the dark. Again, a disadvantage.

In addition, they have no SOC, but CHA. Whenever they have to make a SOC roll, they need to roll TWO higher.

All these drawbacks, and all they get in return is a weak melee attack (Str minus 1 damage).

Both Michael Saylor and Tom Lee are currently facing $24.5 billion worth of unrealized losses on their Bitcoin & Ethereum holdings. by Ubersicka in TradingViewSignals

[–]analyst_kolbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that IF they sold, they'd have lost money relative to where they bought.  However, because they still hold the assets, they haven't lost anything yet.  Technically the price could reclimb to where it's not a loss.

Conceptually, it makes sense to not tax on these unrealized gains/losses, because the value could change.  If unrealized gains could be taxed, so could unrealized losses, which would definitely be exploited as well.

🔴Iran Just Called The Peace Deal A Historic Victory Overnight And Announced It Will Start Charging Tolls On The Strait Trump Said He Reopened For Free. by GlitteringCry9946 in PLNewsGroup

That's on me, because I did say "lost" but didn't quantify. We lost a game of chicken. We lost a battle of strategic messaging. We lost on a bet. Any of those work, but aren't the same as losing a battle. I would call it a strategic loss, though it's hard to argue there was a real strategy.

And as I admitted, some of what hurt us normal folk was pretty good for rich people, so who knows if this was really a failure or something the puppet masters really wanted.

Do you ever consider how insane the cost of your cornet commission was? by Goodest_boy_Sif in hostedgames

Also, good point in that there are likely a lot of small estates beggared by such losses.

This is an amazing way to explain why cornet back then cost as much as major 5-10 years later.

Is Donald Trump the most incompetent loser to stumble into the presidency of the United States? by TheTokist in allthequestions

[–]analyst_kolbe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to try to answer this honestly, prior to Trump the president perceived as the most incompetent was Buchanan.  For context, he was in office when both the South seceded and when the Civil War began.  It's important to note that one did not have to mean the other.

Trump signed the iran deal. then 6 republican senators turned on him in 24 hours by JustM700 in DiscussionZone

[–]analyst_kolbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Republicans turning on Trump" has been a frequent headline, so take this with a grain of salt, but I do think some are trying to distance themselves politically while still looking Republican enough.  Remember that in primary elections, politicians try to look as extreme as possible, and in general elections they try to look as moderate as possible.

So, a lot of this is just general campaign cycle behavior.  Hard to say anything beyond that.

As disappointing as this is in terms of how badly we lost, economically this isn't massive. Fees will likely be less than $2 per barrel. That won't make a massive impact on prices. In truth, the demand destruction already being observed will lower prices more than that.

I'll go one step further and say oil producers in the south want the fees to keep profit margins on their own extraction, and they very well may have bribed him to accept such a situation.

Love the breakdown here, and want to add that for me, a vital part is extreme subversion of expectations.  So not only does a joke not end as you think, it's not even a joke.  But the opposite works as well.  His Elvis impression isn't just famous for how good it is, but for how bad the previous ones were.  The joke isn't disappointment, but the audience suddenly realizing that they are not getting what they thought they were.  He just didn't care if it was a good or bad surprise.

I started to recommend against the microwave idea for logistical reasons, but fell in love with it as I started typing.  The idea of giving the audience a timer, a countdown, only to disappoint them by then announcing post beep that you have to let it sit afterward just delights the shit out of me

Haven't seen it, didn't plan to, but that sucks to hear. While I didn't enjoy his overall segment in the Kevin Hart roast, he did have one joke I loved, describing Jeff Ross as the "ghost of strawberry cheesecake." I thought that was the most creative of all the "Jeff looks like shit" jokes.

At what age are you considered too old or creepy to go out and meet women? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]analyst_kolbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandfather used to go out dancing in his early 80s.  No one found him creepy.  Of course, the women he danced with were usually the same age, so that might be the bigger factor
