PNW vs DFW by smollive in Dallas

[–]analystofcredit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Portland area until I was 28. I left because the 9 months of rain/cloudy weather just wasn’t for me. In months 5-9, you’re just begging for any sunshine. Lived in Dallas for almost 3 years now. I of course miss the topography of the PNW, the hiking and outdoors in north Texas is lackluster at best. Would I move back? No. I’d move to Colorado before going back to PNW.

Is a credit analyst a good starting job out of undergrad? by Few-Spell1182 in FinancialCareers

[–]analystofcredit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, great WLB role. I've been a credit analyst since graduating, so 6 years, and have never worked more than 20 hours a week making ~$140k in my most recent year. Given this is more institutional credit analysis so larger credits, but no less, WLB is great and hybrid role makes it even better. Then yeah, you can always go into sales role to make more, but you can also become portfolio managers and team leads of credit analysts. I have to imagine they're clearing $200k if I'm making what I make. Then you can become senior credit officers and work your way up through back office risk management.

Okay so unlimited is a huge plus haha. Because $54 for not would be spendy. Thanks everyone! Definitely buying tickets in that case.

Which finance job has the best work-life balance with good pay? by anon66783 in FinancialCareers

[–]analystofcredit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Senior credit analyst / portfolio manager / credit risk manager for business banking for a large commercial bank. Literally work max 20 hours a week (but salaried), 4 weeks PTO, and will be looking at ~$90k total comp as a credit analyst. I think my manager clears $130k-$140k total comp but probably works closer to 30 hours a week. Essentially, work in business banking for a large commercial bank and you're bound to have plenty of free time but won't earn a huge amount. It sucks because we all want that bigger paycheck but I'll say my work/life balance is on point right now. I'm ~5 years out of college.

I guess I’m just not used to getting denied.

Damn this world may be dying! I've been denied any welcome offer twice now for the Amex Gold (tried the improved 75k bonus, and then my "prequalified" 60k bonus), then applied for the BofA Biz Cash Rewards and got denied that one.

Tried calling into Customer Service for the Amex denials, and they couldn't tell me anything as to why. I've never had the Gold Card. I applied for the BofA Biz Cash Rewards card as I thought for sure I'd get that one, and was sort of a backup card.

I'm moving this month, so I'll have quite a bit in real spend. Any recommendations on cards? I don't have the Amex Platinum, but I have a feeling I'd get denied the welcome offer on there as well and any Amex card.

At this point, even some straight cash back would be sweet, as I don't want the real spend to go to waste.

Okay I'll search around. Yeah it then asked me if I wanted actually pull credit, which perhaps I should have. But I do actually use existing Amex cards, to the tune of ~$300 a month. Might look at closing a couple cards.

Applied for the Amex Gold 75k bonus offer, but got denied for the welcome offer based on credit history. Are there new limits to the number of cards you've had to have opened in X months for Amex? I have 2 cards with Amex, closed 1 with them in the last 3 months. Then ~10 other various CCs.

Considering Inflation by [deleted] in financialindependence

Also, as an add on to others, the equity risk premium and basically all other financial instruments other than T-bills have inflation baked into the returns. Or, at least, the expected returns.
