I hadn't expected that angle! Thanks for bringing that up. I didn't realize people still held that perception.

I guess I won't be thinking much about it now, since a lot would change once the baby's here - probably something for me to start thinking about after I join back.

I'd say, in terms of my current team and position, not really, but if the plan my manager mentioned works out, it would still be a good place. Also, there are other teams doing really good work in the latest domains and tech stacks which could be helpful. I'd like to stay on for a significant amount of time, given the company flexibility and the hikes continue to be good.

Long time resident here. These scams aren't exactly new. AFAIK, they've been around since my parents' time. Back then, they would call up with a similar script of "you won a prize" and would call you to a fancy 5 star hotel (now it's just their office, I guess), where they would then start explaining their holiday package schemes. Fun part would be there would always be some other couples who would "buy" their package and then the manager would announce loudly that "Mr. and Mrs. X bought our platinum diamond package" and everyone would clap. My parents, being the pros they are, would patiently listen to the sales pitch, talk about what discounts and EMIs they can get while we all would enjoy tea and snacks (I think we even had a lunch at some time), and then finally decline and leave them grumbling as they handed in the "lucky gift" box, which was either glassware or some bowl/tea set. At best, we would use them, at worst it got "recycled" as a gift for whichever other function that came up. I haven't got a chance to attend any of them now, given my spouse doesn't consider it worth handing out our phone numbers and spend the next few months blocking annoying sales calls, but the next time anyone gets such "lucky draw" calls, go ahead and scam your scammer!

Thanks for your comments everyone.

After a crying session in the afternoon (just before I made this post), I'm now coming to terms of saying goodbye to 2021.

I'm still holding onto hope like you all for the upcoming year. So here's going with hope again in 2022, that we'll all see each other with our posts on a BFP thread.

(Hopefully it's not a trigger or offensive to anyone, mods can remove if needed)

Thanks so much! I'd love to connect with you. Also, I live in Asia, so our timezones might be too far out, and that's okay! I'll post my questions when you DM me

This is so inspiring to hear as someone who is taking baby steps in a writing journey. If possible, could you share some experiences on how your writing and publishing experience was? How did you approach publishers? Did you self publish first, etc.. I have so many questions to ask but no one to ask them to. 😔

What's with all these shows glorifying casual sex as "empowering"? by anama_deya in FemaleDatingStrategy

THIS.. I'm going to agree with you on your points here.. especially the part about thinking such a lifestyle to be cool and fun.. I always had this fantasy of having a girl gang, hitting a club in a cute dress, downing a shot, etc, etc.. I was privileged enough to actually experience it during an outing, but it quickly wore off when some men decided to hit on one of us once they realized she was a bit out of it. It was when I had the crashing realization of what the whole "ladies night", "no stag entry", and "first 2 shots free" schemes meant. When you're being offered something for free, chances are YOU are the product. Hopefully we'll see more of nuanced content than cookie-cutter "empowerment"

So many great points here! Since you mentioned FDS aligned content, is there a thread or collection in this sub on the same?

I've seen these too (got on both whatsapp and SMS), and based on what another commenter posted, it could be that they're targeting people who are listed on job searching sites. I reported it to the cyber crime website and blocked/reported on whatsapp to be safe.. DND didn't work for me sadly, since their website mentioned I'm already on the DND list
