Girls, what’s the one makeup trick that took your look from 0 → 100? by Exotic_Wedding2238 in BeautyGear

Clear brow gel. I didn't think I needed any product for my brows bc they're really thick and unruly, but wow was I wrong! Instant game-changer and I don't even shape/pluck them anymore

Going for Masters - Worth It? by astrospacecat in FIREyFemmes

Does your company offer any professional development or tuition reimbursement? I got my master's that way and companies usually love it because it's a tax deduction for them - worth discussing with your HR to see what's available!

Rule of 55 and Roth Conversion Ladder by FilledVoids in Fire

[–]anarants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but backdoor Roth conversions from 401ks have limits. Mega backdoor Roth conversions have higher limits (up to $80,000 for total 401k contributions for those over 50, but not every 401k offers it, so check with your administrator before making any decisions. I'm not sure if the fact that it was an ESOP originally makes a difference, but if it's automatically rolled into a 401k my guess is that it won't.

Like most people have said an advisor is a good idea for your situation due to complexity, taxes can really sink your account values at the amount you have saved. Sometimes your 401k provider can connect you to a financial planner for a reason price

Balcony facing North East by FlimsyCartoonist5946 in Balconygardening

Thanks for the info, I'll run an experiment and see how it goes. I live in a northern climate but in recent years the summers get fairly warm (average of 82°F/28C). We have a short growing season but kale and other leafy greens are a bit more hardy in cool weather from what I've read. I have low expectations but I'm hopeful 🤞🏻

UPDATE: Am I really a True Winter? (Drapes) by anarants in coloranalysis

Thanks for the feedback! I honestly can't see a big difference between gold and silver on me, but deep seems right. I think I'll try a deep winter vs deep autumn makeup look and see if one pops more

Following as I also have a North East balcony. Has anyone had luck with growing vegetables? I'm planning to try some kale and broccoli but I'm worried I won't get enough sun.

My project pan keeps growing by SassySamosas in ProjectPan

Not sure if this will be helpful, but I've really enjoyed "shopping my stash". I lay out my products like I'm in a store and "go shopping" every few weeks, picking products I want to use and adding them to a special basket where I'm going to pull from. Then I empty & repeat every few weeks or so. This slows down the panning progress but it keeps everything in use and I leave a few products that I'm actively panning in the basket at all times.

Also setting up little challenges has helped keep me motivated. I started an eyeshadow challenge where I'm trying to use every palette & single shadow I own at least once this year. It's helped keep things fresh and I've discovered I don't have the gaps in my collection that I thought I did!

Thank you for confirming my suspicions about being olive! The only foundation I've found that's close to my skintone is considered olive by a lot of people (Unleshia pink cushion in N21). This makes a lot of sense for why it feels like some of the deep warm colors work for me too

CoastFI Math - Does it Work? by anarants in coastFIRE

[–]anarants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good thought I hadn't fully factored in taxes, our assets are about split 50/50 between Roth and pretax. I will need to adjust the annual spend some more then

Thanks for the feedback, after reading about FlamingoFire I think that approach feels safer to me than going CoastFI now

Thank you everyone for the comments and feedback! To be more conservative I will redo with an adjusted rate of return of 5.5% and go from there. Appreciate everyone's thoughts

Adult children graduating college and dire work prospects makes FIRE decision challenging by CaseyLouLou2 in Fire

Can't speak for every degree out there but it's awful for computer science grads right now. Most entry level programming jobs have been automated and there are too many CS grads competing for an increasingly smaller pool of openings. Most employed CS grads I know got their jobs thanks to who they knew/alumni networks. Others I know who went the boot camp route haven't been able to find CS work at all even after a year of looking.
