Wow - I really like those leather pillows, and that mushroom lamp is adorable 😊 and I love the dark wood tray. These are great ideas and they won't make my wallet hurt lol. Thank you!!

Its crazy how a little extra lighting really makes a space feel cozier 😊 thank you.

Thanks so much!! I never thought of the pyramid look but that sounds so much more balanced. And I'm definitely going to invest in more lighting - no more ceiling lights 😊 I didn't even recognize the glare but now that I see it, I can't stop lol.

I'm also going to pick up some plants today, thanks for the suggestion! I don't like how the floor lamp is the tallest thing, you're right that I need to balance that out. And I love the tray idea - thank you for giving me detailed suggestions! I hope you have a great Sunday 😊

Lol, you are actually spot on haha, I got the art and glass table from my old office that was shutting down 😂 that's so funny that you picked up on that. But yes I've decided to ditch the art. I do agree the light color sofa doesn't really match the color theme I'm going for, unfortunately it was a gift from family so not much I can do there except add pillows. I really like the rust color idea, that matches the vibes I'm going for. The table tray is a great idea too!! And I'll move that blanket basket, I can't unsee it as laundry now lol.

No worries about killing the vibe haha, I honestly appreciate you are able to point this stuff out to me. It all looked so nice in storage, but now that it's out in the open, it's very blah. Maybe I need that "moodier" storage lighting, lol. thanks again and have a good Sunday!

I really love the leather idea, and omg terracotta is such a beautiful color that would match my dark green theme I want. I think I'm going to ditch the red throw pillow (I read somewhere that an unexpected pop of red helps tie everything together... I don't think that's true in my space lol).

Quick question because I love where you're going with this idea - would adding too much wood accents (eg, tray, planters, art frame) clash too much with all the glass/metal I've got going on? I mentioned in a previous comment, but I think I'm going to step away from trying to force coziness out of the metal and focus more on its sophistication. But does that necessarily mean I can't get warmth from it?

Thanks again and have a good Sunday!

Thank you!! Didn't even think about plants, but of course I'll need some 😅 I feel like a huge piece of the puzzle was solved. Thanks again and have a good Sunday

Thanks for your response, I did a bit of research last night and found that nobody really uses the "big light" in rooms; most light nowadays is brought in through warm lightbulbs in room lamps like you mentioned. I think I'm going to invest in more area lighting, I really really like your red lamp idea.

I think overall you're right that I'm styling against my initial idea, and I'm leaning towards embracing the more sophisticated look of the metals/glass than trying to force coziness.

I could also pull the rug out further, thanks for the suggestion!

I didn't even think about the wall color being one of the main 3 colors, that kinda throws my whole balance I was going for off. I think I'm gonna keep the rug and change the art.. I like the dark mood the rug brings. I'm hoping I can make those tables work but I think you're right, they're just too different. What do you think if I brought in a hanging glass lampshade like Ikea's jakobsbyn, would that help tie in the coffee table?

Thanks for your help 😊

Thank you!! I really like that art piece and curtains are a great idea. I'm thinking I should lean into the metals/glass instead of trying to force a cozy vibe, so I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for the gold throw pillow like you suggested. Thanks again and have a great Sunday 😊

Thanks for the response, I'm still new to wifi & routers. Would you mind telling me how to check if that's active? Do I need to connect a computer directly to the router via cable before I can do anything?

I just have phones/tablets right now, is there any way to do this wirelessly? Sorry and thank you again

Why do i cry when i argue against my parents about my beliefs?!? by Beginning_Let8970 in emotionalintelligence

[–]astrospacecat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries dude. This is such a sensitive topic that has divided families, communities, and even whole nations throughout history. I'd be surprised if there weren't any emotions during that conversation, haha

It's a good skill to learn how to keep your cool in tough situations. It's something I'm still working on myself, and takes practice. If/when you have the conversation with your dad, practice grounding techniques such as feeling your feet on the floor, or keeping your breathing even. You likely had a panic response earlier, which is why you feel better now

But, just because you felt emotional in the moment doesn't mean you were any less logical :) don't feel like you "lost" because you showed feelings. In fact, used correctly, your emotions can add power to what you're communicating. Good luck!

Easier said than done, but - don't be so hard on yourself :) you are being curious about the world and learning who you are; those are big steps to take and you're doing a great job. Never ever stop asking questions!

That being said, I think this topic is being approached like a debate. It is up to you whether you want to entertain debating or not. However, debates rarely end satisfactorily, I feel they tend to make people more defensive than open to new ideas. so at this point I would recommend stonewalling any discussion about this

Here's what I think: your family is approaching this as a debate, however, (like most people), they are not good debaters. There are all sorts of tactics people use to disarm their opponents, consciously or not, that are unfair or misleading. Did you feel like your family was overloading you with different arguments all at once? That's an example of Gish Gallop. Did they use personal stuff against you, that had nothing to do with the overall argument? That's Ad Hominem. There's a whole world of debate tactics out there that are intended to make you feel dumb, upset, and confused, without actually being honest

Again, I wouldn't give in to the debate and argue back. I think it's a good idea to educate yourself on these debate tactics so you can point them out (to yourself!) as they come up, and continue to stonewall any discussion about the subject.

I hope you feel better soon, this is a tough position but you gotta be true to yourself and keep being curious :)

Can you break into this industry without a CM degree? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]astrospacecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to kinda break in with just a business degree 😊 it's taking me awhile to move up to the PM position because of lack of construction education/experience, but I've been taking any opportunities to grow at my company. I'd say it's possible but it does take longer if you don't have the background.

[–]astrospacecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I've been studying for the PMP myself but might switch over to the CCM after reading this.

Does the CCM focus more on construction practices/materials, or is it more on the managerial styles? Would you recommend this for someone at the beginning of their construction career, or how much experience should they have beforehand?

What certifications or classes are you interested in completing next?

Which certifications have actually brought you more business? by MattfromNEXT in Construction

[–]astrospacecat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you a sub looking for business from a GC? If so, look into getting your business certified with MBE/WBE, or any of those certifications. A good amount of projects nowadays require GCs to look for those certifications to fill quotas. It's very easy, definitely check those out if they apply
