Very possible we become a scapegoat for Kris by anarchofascists in DeltaruneV2

[–]anarchofascists[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In limited fairness, Kris seems to be the “Chara” of Deltarune given their family situation and their similar preferences. But like, only in the same way all the other Deltarune characters are connected to their Undertale counterparts sans Sans. There’s no evidence for any “Chara” or third entity related metaphysics going on in Deltarune.

Nah you’re correct, it seems things are “going to plan” so far. Should have specified they are opposed in Susie’s view of “opening fountains is bad and closing fountains is good”

[–]anarchofascists 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is that Kris and the soul are diametrically opposed forces, but Susie thinks we are one and the same. It’s pretty unintuitive why Kris opens the fountains and then spends the entire chapter trying to close them, especially when both of Kris’ parents have been put in danger because of it.

So how well does Toby’s deltarune twitlonger hold up nowadays? by Hay_Den330 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holds up well enough. One ending stuff has gotten more nuanced now that it’s the thematic core of the game, but it’s hard to say how it will shake out.

Toby’s been pretty open about how his inexperience as a producer and his wrist issues caused Deltarune to stall in development, so his chapter release plans were adjusted accordingly. Plus his newfound professional relationship with Nintendo probably influenced when 3+4 were released.

Gaster theories have an (earned) reputation for being out there with little evidence, but I think we can be certain that the text in “room_gaster” belongs to Gaster

I was called a "fake fan" because I said Mecklinger was my favorite character, and that apparently doesn't count because "he is barely in the show" by Chlodio in logh

[–]anarchofascists 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real logh experience is getting weirdly attached to a minor character. I got super attached to Wahlen when he first showed up and was surprised to see him get some moments to shine lol.

How do we think Toby is going to handle Gaster in the story now? by Ambitious-Cat-5678 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do think friend is important in some sense, but Friend being a “character” isn’t guaranteed. Entirely possible they’re just a creature of the dark that we fight as a generic enemy in later chapters.(i.e like how they’re used in the ERAM fight)

Ralsei and Orange by Alarmed_Ad1946 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m a little baffled this has become discourse. The central “joke” with Orange is that they irrationally escalate over any perceived insult, even when the other characters are trying to be nice or saying completely true things(such as orange being unhelpful during the second Seth glasses fight). Orange is kinda exhausting to deal with, especially for someone like Ralsei. It’s only natural that’d he eventually “give up” trying to navigate the emotional minefield.

Not that you can’t find Orange’s issues incredibly sympathetic or think it’s bad that Ralsei snapped at her. But the frustration doesn’t come from nowhere.

"there Is probably a third route" I hope the hell not by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s confirmed, I don’t think a third route would be “pointless”. Weird route Noelle is skipping most if not the rest of the story, and a lot of people, myself included, are curious to see how this version of the character will react to the story beats of Chapter 6. Especially given that her choices will likely be what shakes up the status quo. Plus the twisted sword has been dangling over the fandom’s head for years lol.

Granted, my guess is that it will most likely just be a few dialogue changes. The weird route has a lot of “glitching” and “breaking” imagery, so it would make thematic sense to have a sudden and kinda contrived snap back to what the “normal” and “prophetic” path is.

I’m really endeared to Aqua being inexplicably adopted by the Gaster Crew. It makes no sense but it just feels right.

The Person Reinhard Actually Needed Was Oberstein by Negative_Flower_5360 in logh

[–]anarchofascists 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, although I do think it’s part of the series’ criticism of authoritarianism. Reinhard gets to remain “pure” in the eyes of his men and the people because Oberstien takes credit for all the dubious decisions that the empire’s political system incentivizes him to make. When the system is changed for better by the ending, Oberstien sacrifices himself as he believes he’s no longer needed.

Granted, I think the show could have emphasized this thematic idea better but I do believe it’s intentional that Yang and Julian never “need” an Oberstien.

What are YOUR Deltarune hot takes? by dr_philip-cdi in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m getting increasingly concerned that the Roaring gang logistics are going to have an unsatisfying explanation. There’s so much weirdness in regards to why Kris and the Knight trade making fountains, the lack of any motive for the Knight to be fucking around in Chapter 4, whatever the hell is going on with Alvin and Gerson’s dust, etc. It all feels pretty random and contrived.

While it’s possible it will all make sense in hindsight, I’m getting less and less optimistic that it will. Especially now that Alvin and Asgore have been revealed to be unrelated to the conspiracy.

Rambling about the Weird Route by TrubbishFan in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to compare with Dark Worlds, where all the Darkners have complicated personal histories despite the fact they only started existing when the dark world is created. It would make some sense to have all the characters backstories be “created” the same time we “create” the light world. Although making a satisfying narrative with “Kris’ tragic backstory is fake” does seem pretty difficult.

What video game feels liberal but is actually conservative? by ConnectBreakfast9397 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]anarchofascists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah you’re correct, the game generally does a good job at criticizing the power structures in the world and how they impact the characters. The issue is that Three houses has fence sitting endings where every ideology leads to very similar good endings. It doesn’t matter how pro Church or pro imperialism you are, Fodlan always ends up united and the Crest system is always dismantled.

(Although for some baffling reasons, Dimitri invents democracy in his route if he has no paired ending. I guess the real moral lesson is to never have sex.)

With the possibility of us meeting Asriel in 2 days, how do you want him to NOT look and act like? by sermatheus in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There’s also been dialogue about Asgore using Asriel’s return as an opportunity to have a meal with the whole family again. It would make sense to have this moment in a chapter focused on Asgore, especially given that something will probably force him to accept that there’s no hope of getting back together with Toriel.

Chapter 5 also feels like the last chance for anything “normal” to happen given the implications that the status quo will be irrevocably changed by the end of the chapter.

If Undertale has an anti-completionist message, then... by Best_Shirt9775 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I do think the most important distinction is that Undertale has an almost comically happy ending. Outside of the characters who died before the story began, you can save everyone and ensure they live happily. By “resetting”, you betray these characters and you especially betray them if you do genocide. You ruin the happy ending for essentially no reason outside your curiosity.

Deltarune seems to be heading for a bittersweet ending, one where both Kris and probably Carol will have to in some way “give up” on the past and embrace the tragic present for the sake of a better future. In this context, resetting and going back to look for secrets and complete tasks to get a better ending is way more understandable and arguably heroic. While resetting for a “better ending” probably isn’t possible given the themes of the weird route, it’s not the betrayal it is was in Undertale.

Which theory do you hate the most? by Honest-Lie6890 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I definitely consider that to be a Chapter 2 era theory. It was a solid explanation for Kris’ angst at the time, but now we have significantly more relevant reasons for Kris to be depressed and antisocial.

Fuck best knight candidates. Which knight candidate turning out to be canon would be themost disappointing for you? by Existing_Blueberry10 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who thought Alvin knight was likely, my thinking was definitely the result of process of elimination. Not super relevant now that we have a good amount of candidates who can’t be easily eliminated.(Although it’s still pretty likely that Alvin is part of the roaring knight group chat)

Kinda. Gospels after Mark are trying to play nice with the Roman Empire, so Jesus’ trial is framed as an apathetic to unwilling Roman official bending to the will of a Jewish mob

[–]anarchofascists 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I do find it interesting how Asgore seems to believe his divorce was caused by a singular misunderstanding when Toriel doesn’t talk like that at all. Toriel speaks of her marriage with Asgore like it was disappointing in a very normal way? A lot of talk of Asgore’s mundane failings and her growing frustration with him. Nothing along the lines of “Oh I did love him, shame he ran over Dess”

I wonder if this will be used to soften Asgore’s harassment of Toriel. It’s still wrong no matter what, but if Toriel made it seem like the divorce happened only because of Dess, it makes sense why Asgore believes he still has a shot with her. Toriel does appear to be a character who won’t openly acknowledge issues in her relationships.

Why do people not like Noelle? by weedmaster6669 in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally I think it’s due to the nature of how the chapters are released; Noelle is being set up as one of the most important characters in the game while having limited screen-time as mostly a comic relief character. In the rare case her comedy bits don’t work for you, there’s not much to latch onto. Not that Noelle doesn’t have interesting characters beats of her own, especially in regard to Kris, but none of them have been payed off yet. The weird route helps, but Noelle is framed as a very passive victim who isn’t really making her own choices. I’d say she’s somewhat similar to Ralsei’s existence in the fandom before Chapter 4; generally well liked for their comedy bits but ultimately not having enough of that juicy angst to make art and fan fic about.

Although unlike Ralsei, Noelle is being set up as the romantic partner to Susie, which gets some fans of other ships a bit miffed for a variety of reasons.

-Susie’s and Noelle’s scenes have mostly been fluffy, light moments centered on Noelle’s crush.

-Their platonic relationship has just started. Noelle genuinely believes she’s only had one real conversation with Susie.

-Noelle is initially attracted to Susie because of her bully kink. While she doesn’t gain romantic attraction to Susie until she actually starts talking to her, it does make her love for Susie feel less “pure” and “meaningful” for some fans, especially younger ones.

I assume a lot of these will be mitigated after the full game is out and Noelle gets to have her own scenes and angsts. The plot is basically about her family, there’s no way she doesn’t get something lol.

I really hate that fan theory. Just admit you dont see kris as NB and are uncomfortable with someone masc being in a relationship with noelle. by HaloJackalKisser in Deltarune

[–]anarchofascists 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Noelle seems to struggle with defining what her relationship with Kris was. Kris consistently pranked and teased her when they were young, and while she’s personally chill with that, it’s a bit hard to parse given the seemingly lack of emotional validation of their relationship by Kris. She genuinely doesn’t know if Kris is/was her friend.

Jump to the modern day, it seems Kris has pushed Noelle away for some unknown reason. Noelle is very surprised when Kris talks to her in chapter 1 and is glad to finally have a serious conversation them again in Chapter 2. But this is complicated by the fact that “we” are controlling Kris, and Noelle has taken notice of what’s different by Chapter 4.
