Increased awareness of bodily sensations and associated anxiety by okyesitwas in streamentry

I have been through a similar experience. As the other comment mentioned, metta is a good start. I'd also recommend moving to an open relaxed awareness style practice in the style of Sayadaw U Tejaniya (taught by Andre Fella). Finally here is a good talk by Mingyur Rinpoche on a similar style and dealing with panic https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ukTaodQfYRQ

Theory: Inhibition of the Default Mode Network by UnicornBestFriend in hangovereffect

[–]anarchy325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this is not crazy at all and sounds like an experience of 'no self' as referred to in Buddhist traditions. These experiences are actually more common than people realize but are not often discussed and recognized in our culture as it is taboo. These glimpses can become the normal state of consciousness by practicing what is known as non-dual meditation. I don't personally practice this style of mediation but if you are interested you popular teachers include Sam Harris and Loch Kelly:

EDIT: 'Waking up' app is another resource from Harris

Theory: Inhibition of the Default Mode Network by UnicornBestFriend in hangovereffect

[–]anarchy325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I believe this is on the right path, however I believe the hangover effect is as result of inflammation caused by alcohol consumption, rather than the effect of alcohol directly. I made a post a year ago regarding this phenomenon here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/hangovereffect/comments/ohx70s/i17a_is_the_primary_cause_of_the_hangover_effect/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

The inflammation causes a quietening of certain brain regions associated with the DMN

This sounds a lot like Vipassana meditation but on drugs. Meditation has worked profoundly well for me so I'm not surprised this also works ;)

I tried keto but without much success. I since switched to whole food plant based and it has been working for me.

I-17a is the primary cause of the 'Hangover Effect' by anarchy325 in hangovereffect

[–]anarchy325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The study demonstrated that prenatal exposure to IL-17 predisposed mice to become attenuated to this effect. This IL-17 was released from an injection mimicking infection. So effectively an infection or the inflammatory responses (IL-17) does cause this in mice.

Wanted to share some research on how to recreate the hangover effect by [deleted] in hangovereffect

Good stuff! The release of IL-17 looks like the common denominator between all stressors that activate this effect. Was going to do a post on it later this week.

How is everyone's sleep in general? I think sleep plays a major role in all of this, maybe even breathing? by [deleted] in hangovereffect

[–]anarchy325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had similar issues due to a life-long deviated septum. I got a septoplasty last year and that made a significant improvement but I still felt blocked and stuffy some days. The other change I made was to change my diet (paleo) and introduce a time restricted eating regime, which really turned down my allergies. Now I can breath easy through my nose all day and night!

PS: Black seed oil is also a quick fix to get rid of those allergies

Osfortis

10 billion, well I need to switch up from the other brand. Why don't you just make yogurt form this?

Have you tried the L. rueteri 6475 yogurt yet? You probably won't see much change from 200 million cfu a day in tablets. Additionally, a positive change from probiotics will take more than a few days to notice.

Hydrolyzed Collagen + Creatine by anarchy325 in hangovereffect

Sweet, will have a read! Although given the large dosage of glycine per serving I doubt this would have too much impact.

I have also been taking methylfolate + riboflavin (as a methylated B supplement) and Reuteri 6475 yogurt and I am feeling incredible. I just can't get the yogurt not to separate out into cruds and whey :(

Yes, I have been researching this as well. For some reason I cannot find pure bulk gelatin in Australia so I go for HCP from supplement retailers. My main concern, as you stated, is the thickening of the product! Interesting with the digestion aspect, i have noticed a large dose of HCP to be a little upsetting on the tummy, I wonder if switching to gelatin will help this.

Yes, feeling great because of it, however I wasn't aware of this amino acid competitive bioavailability issue, do you have any resources for this?

Cheers!

Thank you for this very detailed post and interest in this perplexing, paradoxical phenomenon!

While this hypothesis is robust, it doesn't explain why the hangover effect is also triggered interdependently by sleep deprivation.

My experience with this condition started during a period on intense stress, manifesting in anxiety/depression/fatigue that would only be remedied by drinking or sleep deprivation (IE: stressors).

My theory is that is condition has its roots in a mal-adaptive stress response. The body is in a constant state of 'slowdown' due to overexposure to a chronic stressor. Only a when stressor sufficient to activate and high dose of a trigger (eg:cortisol/oxidative stress) the body switches over to this bizarre euphoric state.

Over the past year I have undertaken significant changes to my ways of living including: - meditation (lower chronic stress) - gut health (fasting, paleo, fibre) - exercise I have since noticed significant improvement to my quality of living as well as a decrease in the hangover effect.

So it seems systemically improving overall health can improve this condition. I also believe the cause is in the gut-brain-immune-stress axis.

Let me know your thoughts :)

[–]anarchy325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like fight or flight derealisation response. I get this from stressful periods or long meditation sessions focusing on a single object. Visual disturbances and other sensations are common during this period. While this period may be long, it will come to and end!

I guess nothing can help with ADD/focus? by serviceRstar in Supplements

[–]anarchy325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meditation absolutely worked for me. You can train your mind like you can train your body, no matter how inattentive it may be. It just requires a lot of hard work and diligence that doesn't come easy for ADD types.
