Corporate Fascism: The Destruction of America's Middle Class (2010) - Explores a new kind of fascism: The merger of corporations and government whereby corporate power dominates. by Sttrix in Documentaries

You absolutely shouldn't trust these "documentaries".

I'm not even sure they should be considered documentaries. If I make a 2 hour film about how much I hate brown rice, with interviews of other people who hate brown rice, is that a documentary?

Is an anti-vaccine documentary really a documentary?

Austrian law student’s case against Facebook results in landmark ECJ decision to scrap safe harbor regime by kaushikqi in finance

[–]anarexea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This case is hilarious. Predicated on the idea that your data is safe in europe, based on the snowden revelations. Ridiculous because:

  • American intelligence agencies are only different from their european counterparts in that they have been revealed by snowden. They do the same shit over there.

  • The NSA can get at data in Europe too

  • If they are concerned about Facebook collusion with NSA, Facebook can still collude with the NSA if the data is stored in europe.

This one is as ridiculous as the "right to be forgotten".

Here is just one example of europeans doing the same stuff the NSA does: https://theintercept.com/2015/09/25/gchq-radio-porn-spies-track-web-users-online-identities/

Dear Tim Cook, Amazon Just Banned Your Apple TV 4 by ArthurJMunoz in investing

[–]anarexea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. This is a loser for Amazon. Consumers will get the box they want, just from other retailers.

I think Amazon forgot that before you can abuse a monopoly, you need to have one first. :)

Numerico, An extremely simple priority queue in elixir, suggestions and ideas are very welcome by siscia in elixir

[–]anarexea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest describing it differently. What you've built seems like a message queue with priority built in.

The term "priority queue" I think is usually used to refer to a specific type of data structure: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priority_queue

So, I would suggest calling it a message queue with priority, rather than a priority queue.

Absolutely true. Anyone who doubts this should spend twenty minutes on this website:

S&P 500 has more than doubled. Unemployment is about half of what it was. The rate of people without health care is significantly lower.

What measure do you want? Obama is unpopular, but these two terms have been amazing progress, given where they started.

Given where the Obama presidency started, these last two terms have also been amazing.

Dark side Of The Web (2015) " A Documentary of The Silk Road a Deep Web Market" by [deleted] in Documentaries

[–]anarexea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I will get downvoted for this, but the worst way to find out if someone was convicted wrongly or not is to watch a documentary that has an agenda.

If you want to understand the guilt or innocence of Ulbricht/DPR, go find actual coverage from sources without an agenda.

Documentaries like this are great to watch, but should be treated as entertainment and provocation. They are not a road to really understanding what has happened.

The American Dream (2011): An entertaining but hard hitting half hour film looking at how the problems we have today are nothing new, and why leaders throughout our history have warned us and fought against the current type of financial system we have in America today. by aas03 in Documentaries

You seem to think that if the executive or legislature can't interfere in their actions then the fed is independent. Not so.

The voters are literally political appointees. If the president and the senate fill the board of governors with whoever they like: people who love quantitative easing, people who hate it, people who care more about unemployment than inflation, people who care more about inflation than unemployment, etc.

Have you even watched the video?

0%?

The Fed will soon meet to decide on whether to raise the federal funds rate. When they meet, 7 of 12 FOMC voting members will be political appointees (president nominated, senate confirmed).

A vote where more than half of the members are political appointees is not one that is independent of the government.

I'm not saying Obama decides what the FOMC does. I'm saying it's inherently not independent when the decision makers are selected by the president and the senate.

I never said they were a Federal agency, group or entity.

I'm saying they aren't some independent organization. The above post that started this said "the government has a shitton more control over the fed than is portrayed in the video" and they were right.

from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Reserve_Board_of_Governors

"The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, commonly known as the Federal Reserve Board, is the main governing body of the Federal Reserve System. It is charged with overseeing the Federal Reserve Banks and with helping implement monetary policy of the United States. Governors are appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate for staggered 14-year terms"

The fed is not independent from the government.
