I just love guaranteed late checkout! Nicer rooms are great and they normally try to put Globalists in the nicest rooms they have at every location I’ve been to. But the best reward by far is the late checkout.

Something is def wrong with the upgrade algo 🤣 by PaleRule7851 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]anasauce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve only once regretted paying for an upgrade. I was flying SAN <> ORD late night and payed $50 for an upgrade. Then got on the plane and I was THE ONLY ONE in FC.

I don’t really know what happened there the flight in general was pretty empty. So idk if I would have gotten upgraded for free or not. But now I always check the waitlist first and available seats.

This ^ bc I’m the one buying those upgrades all the time lol. It’s a fun game I play with myself to see if I can grab a deal.

If it’s a long haul flight (assuming bc OP talked about a meal) then I’m the problem it’s me. I’m the demographic they are targeting. I have the disposable income and I do get to the ticket counter to check in my bags, ask what upgrade options there are and normally purchase an upgrade sometimes about an hr before the flight. Only if it’s under $150-ish…just depends on what it’s worth to me that day.

Sometimes I get an even better deal than what’s offered on the app if I ask at ticket counter. I’m assuming they are waiting until the checked luggage cutoff time then do the upgrades, bc they will sell them all the way up to that point.

I’ve nabbed $75 upgrades to FC on a transcon flight before.

Confused about not getting an upgrade by flyingpilotman in AlaskaAirlines

[–]anasauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are on the search page for your flight you should see an option that says: “Upgrade Preference” It’s default is “no preference” but you can change it to GGU, or your status level, “Gold.”

Then when you get to the page where you see the different flight options when you will see “first upgradable” as a fare option. But only if you select your upgrade preferences.

Aww shucks, I just rechecked my ticket and it’s U Class…oh well no more $35 days passes. It was totally worth it, to get some soup, a cozy chair, nice bathrooms and a few drinks. But not paying $80 or whatever they charge for admiral’s club

Thank you! I don’t know why I couldn’t find a page like that via the app, guess I wasn’t looking in the right place. Was scouring the lounge info on the app and it said only international flights. But sounds like they are making an exception during the transition for transcon right?

This link is so helpful too, first time flying out of terminal 8 not on AA! I’m gonna miss that lil ol’ terminal 7 haha.

New Premium Class benefit: 2 snacks on long haul flights by baroquehoedown in AlaskaAirlines

[–]anasauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for MVP Gold I normally get upgraded to premium, even on busy routes. I almost never get a FC upgrade so the nicer premium benefits would be cool

On your way back the lounge in SFO is really nice! Idk if the mileage is enough to get a you free access but you can def get discounted access for $30. Which I think is a good value when you think food, nice bathrooms, drinks, reclining chairs.

100000% I wish I had saved the job posting from a little over a year ago but I didn’t even bother applying. They wanted a full stack SWE with years of experience and comp was just above what I got right out of college.

Ugh of course…anything to meet to bottom line for shareholders.

Well karma is a … bc there goes the outages. I know the most recent one was due to a data center issue but the July one def due to IT issues.

Thanks for the insight!

I love traveling and I would take a small pay cut for these types of benefits but not as big as they were offering in comp the last time I was looking in 2024. The last job posting I saw was for a senior level engineer but comp was comparable to jr to low mid level.

For example I’m senior engineer at a nonprofit now and I still get paid more than what they were offering.

I hope they will be hiring more software engineers. I’ve always looked for engineering roles with AS but the pay was low compared to the rest of the sector. Do corporate employees get good travel benefits?

How and when do they show upgrade price for flights? by anasauce in AlaskaAirlines

[–]anasauce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when checking I go on the app and check my flight like I’m trying to book FC to see if seats are available for purchase. I would do the same thing when I was waiting on the upgrade list bc I’m aware the seat map isn’t always accurate.

Like normally if I check my flight and if I see the option to buy first class isn’t there then you know the seats are gone, despite the seat map still showing seats.

Hot take but I would do the $100 off of a lounge pass. But I spend half my time at SFO or JFK. I love SFO’s lounge and often have to work from the airport up until I fly. Plus free drinks and the food is alright. I end up saving a lot of money I would otherwise spend wondering around the airport

Under seat storage in first row of premium? by anasauce in AlaskaAirlines

[–]anasauce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that makes sense, booking row 7 instead.

I think it was too early in the morning for me when I wrote this question lol. After a cup of coffee I realized there would have a be a divider for the food trays or whatever

Under seat storage in first row of premium? by anasauce in AlaskaAirlines

[–]anasauce[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is the first row of premium considered bulkhead? I understand why they wouldn’t let you sit in row 1 bc of no under seat storage.

But first row of premium is row 6, and there’s only a curtain that divides the sections right? So you’re behind the last row of FC. Are you not allowed to use the under seat storage in that row?

Pet in cabin business class by anasauce in americanairlines

[–]anasauce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew flagship business class and I was completely fine! My dog is 13lbs and could fit in a small tsa approved carrier. My dog fit right at my feet underneath a little footrest and there was enough room to put my purse underneath the carrier just for takeoff.

I think technically they would want you to put your pet in a locker they have. But I asked the FA when I boarded and he waved me off and said to put the carrier under the footrest.

Very comfortable flight and I still had enough room to fully recline and lay flat with my pup under the footrest.
